Ok all you computer fix-it people, I've got a question for you. I want to load a CD into my computer. I push the button and the tray pops open, then immediately closes again before I put the CD in. Push the button again, same thing happens. It's a Compaq desktop, brand new about 9 months ago. I've been living in a cave for several years, thus my experience with computers is limited; I've only opened the case once to add some RAM. Before opening anything up and poking around, I decide to talk to Compaq tech support, and the tech there tells me the power cable to the CD/DVD rom is probably slightly loose. "That doesn't make any sense," I tell him. "If it weren't getting power then it wouldn't open or close at all." The tech guy puts me on hold to talk to his supervisor, then comes back and says the same thing. Slightly loose power cables cause erratic behavior. Hmm. So before I open her up and start rooting around in there, my question is: Was the tech support guy making sense or was he making up a bullshit story to get me off the phone? Matt

Damn. I wouldn't blame them for that one; I'd probably be a little "Euuwww!" myself. Matt

I think I lived in the same place for a little while in Tulsa. Matt

I'm envisioning every man who knows you in real life evaluating his wardrobe right now, asking himself "What would look piratish?" Matt

The counter must have reset itself sometime and I didn't notice. When I first discovered this site I read two threads in Speaker's Corner and decided "Nope, not for me." People in there need to learn to relax. Matt

I feel kinda proud of this. Matt

I thought anybody who got the 42 reference would also get the 6x9 reference. Douglas Adams, very funny man. Everybody should immediately stop what you're doing and read all six installments of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy trilogy. Right now. The two Dirk Gently books are equally great.

Question for the forum: Is the Emergency Pancake Bunny Alert system warranted when the original poster is probably making sense, but my own ignorance prevents me from knowing just what the hell he's talking about? Matt

Run for your lives, men! She's gonna blow! Matt

What the hell is that thing in the second picture?! Looks like something from a sci-fi movie. Matt

I don't actually hate cats. I just dislike them a great deal. And I'll admit that some random kitten's untimely demise isn't going to prevent me from indulging in a little self-lovin'. Matt

Depressingly common response to a broken heart, but it fortunately doesn't last very long in most cases. Matt

Definitely ok. Be proud of your crabs! Tell everone you meet about them!

Finally! Thank you, Nightingale, I was occupied elsewhere and didn't catch this one in time.

Amazing as it may seem for a thread in the bonfire, he appears to be perfectly sincere.

Oh. Maybe I didn't understand what he was saying. I thought he wanted people to sit around and not use muscles, and expeft the fat to disappear. Matt

That's great! She's very pretty, and in the picture anyway, seems to be a little bit fond of yiou too.
-
Being serious for a second. TYring anyway. If using muscles doesn't burn fat, then what does? Matt

Oh. What does the pancake bunny have to do with Caesar? Matt

That's how I feel whenevr I can't get out of talking to a customer. It's time to put on my "educated professional" persona and pretend to be mature until the customer goes away. Matt

So if an aircraft, or even an insect or bird for tht matter, is descending at any given monent, is it falling or is it still flying? I think if you can steer, it's flying. Matt
