I've been trying to find a way to tell you all that I'm . .

Skydiverly or not, smart move. Congrats on flying again. Matt -
Spoke too soon! Anybody know where I can get an ark for cheap? Matt
-
Yeah, you're right. The canopy was distorted even on the very first loop. Matt
-
I once was flying an airplane while the hot chick sitting next to me puked and puked and puked some more into various bags. Does that count? Matt
-
Don't know what that looping maneuver is called or how it's done, but I wonder what the thought process was in continuing when the lines went slack on the loop immediately before the bad one. Three cheers for reserves! Glad the main didn't block the reserve deployment. Very lucky man. Matt

Oh thank God the cold front just hit. Wind abruptly changed direction and the temperature dropped from just under 90 to low 70s in five minutes. Feels pretty damn good, I'm tellin' ya. The weird thing: you'd expect some serious thunderstorms to accompany a front like this, and you'd be right, but the storms are all steering around my home. Step outside and I can see impressive light shows to the north and south, but it's all so far away that the thunder is inaudible. I don't recall ever seeing so much brilliant lightning, but the only noise comes from waves in the lake, wind in the trees and my neighbor's tinkling windchimes. Bizzare. Matt

Still working on that database, huh? 2 parts Irish. 1 part euromutt. 1 part American Indian (samples of Umatilla, Nez Perce, and Canadian Cree). Matt
-
Don't count on it. Car mechanics lie to everybody. New work boots might, though. Matt
-
Skip the zucchini. It's gross. Matt
-
I don't know who this guy is, but the picture made me smile. Matt

You should read it, then. Scott even referred a question to you. Sorry to disappoint on the dinner. I already ate at a friend's place before I saw your response. Matt

Darth Vader re-dubbed with other James Earl Jones quotes *VID*

I laughed. That was good. -
Dear Sunshine, Icon134 seems to be moving in on your traditional role of answering questions around here with his "Stump Scott" thread. I'm wondering how you feel about this? Do you see Scott as competitor or colleague? Matt

Work? I don't do that anymore. Matt

Not an airplane. It's a glider with a ridiculously high wingloading. Matt
-
They said they'll have a pilot's POV camera! I don't think I've ever seen that before. Matt
-
Oh! I thought she was saying it would be nice to have a better picture than the streaming video; that's what I agreed with. Yeah, click on the NASA TV link and you can watch what's going on there. Mach 24.9 baby! Matt

Keep in mind that these words are coming from a guy with only six jumps... My first jump was static line. I went with a couple of friends, and one of them was being an obnoxious macho idiot, so I can relate there. 'Course, we were all guys, so it's not exactly the same kind of dynamic. I was the last one out of the plane on that load. The instructor told me to put my feet out, so I did, and both legs blew sideways! Maybe I should've expected it, but I was very surprised and more than a little bit rattled that just putting my feet on the step was more difficult than I had expected. Hanging on the strut was actually easier than I had anticipated. Instructor said "GO!", so I did, and honestly forgot all about counting. Guess what: the canopy opened perfectly even without any counting.

Gotta agree with you there. But televised events actually worth watching are so very rare, I just can't see paying for cable. Shuttle lands in about an hour!
-
Weather has cleared, de-orbit starts in 9 minutes. Matt
-
That's great! I was actually thinking of toys, gadgets, gizmos and gimmicks, but what you've found is better than any of those.
-
Space shuttle Discovery is scheduled to begin its de-orbit burn in less than an hour, provided weather at the landing site stays good. They're concerned about a developing thunderstorm that might move too close. Watch it on NASA TV.

I'm thinking about this, and realizing that I've developed a habit of always making the first toss from the right hand, and the final catch in the left hand, which just feels balanced to my mind. This could actually be the root of an imbalance problem. I think you helped me, Scott!

That.... is a whole lotta pictures. Yup. Matt
