So why move into the Georgia mountains to avoid SHTF on the mortal earth? Why should you care? God will provide. - Dan G -

When someone starts with this, it is almost a foregone conclusion that the rest of the post will not reflect what the OP said in any way, shape, or form. No one is forcing anyone to make any bedroom decisions regarding contraception. The idea is if people want to be responsible and use birth control, the government has an interest in making that option more accessible. We're not talking about forced sterilization, here. Can you explain how the government providing subsidies to people who want to use birth control is giving the government a say in that decision? - Dan G -

God's plan for my life involves depriving me of water, food, shelter, and safety? That doesn't sound like much fun. - Dan G -

Now you're back to believing climate change is happening? That's good. For a while there it seemed you were drifting towards believing the climate is static. - Dan G
-
It is what it is and nothing can or ever will be done to change it. We can outlaw murder in the USA, we can screw with the Mob in the USA and nothing will change in world crime. The majority of the world does not care. It is human nature and the nature of things. Why don't people understand and accept this simple concept? - Dan G

Maybe "alarmists" are, but regular people who believe that climate change is happening are praying that it is all a bad dream. Too bad it's not. - Dan G

Is it possible that all these DZs have another problem with your friend other than he's deaf? Perhaps they don't think he has the ability to safely skydive for some other reason(s)? - Dan G -
Could McMillan have a business motive for portraying itself as the victim of the anti-gun Obama DOJ? I'm not saying they are lying, but the only evidence they have came from a secret meeting that the other side (BoA) disputes. This is a classic he said, she said. Your side implies there is a secret government program trying to put the gun industry out of business. My side implies that the gun industry is riding the Obama paranoia to record profits. Believe what you will. - Dan G

From snopes (which you'll dismiss as leftist): Read more at http://www.snopes.com/politics/guns/bankofamerica.asp#PphF02eAJYUWZu8h.99 - Dan G

I'm sure you remember people making that claim. Do a little research and you'll see BoA denies that quite plainly. - Dan G

What!?! This is Speakers' Corner. Aren't you supposed to call me a Nazi or something? Don't worry, we all do it sometimes.

Um, no. Where in anything I've written, including what you quoted, did you get that idea? IMHO, you're projecting what you think about "warmists" onto every aspect of the conversation. Please read what I wrote, it was quite neutral in tone, intentionally. - Dan G

Your articles relies almost entirely on the premise that 97% of scientists must agree that climate changeis not only real and man-made, but also "dangerous". That's not what billvon, or anyone else as far as I can tell, has claimed. By adding the requirement that the published papers must label climate change as "dangerous" your article sets up a convenient strawman, and then knocks it down. It doesn't debunk the claim that 97% of knowledgable scientists believe that the climate is changing, and man's activities are mostly to blame. - Dan G

God, that's obnoxious. - Dan G -
Pretty much why I quit. The DZ wasn't my happy place anymore, and was spending too much time and emotional energy visiting people in the hospital. I finally figured out what whuffos do on the weekend: a fucking shit-ton of fun stuff. If it's no longer worth risking your life over, quit. You'll miss it, but life will go on. It might even get better. - Dan G

Thank you. Now can you state your position on whether subsidizing birth control has any benefit to society? - Dan G -

DanG replied to funjumper101's topic in Speakers Corner
The problem is that you refuse to make any statement regarding a benefit to society for subsidizing birth control. You won't say there is no benefit, you won't say that there is some benefit. I can't have a conversation with someone who won't address the issue beyond repeating the same position ad nauseum. And I can't disagree with you if you never take a position. You're always on kallend's back for refusing to state his position on gun control. Why won't you clearly state a position on this? - Dan G -

If I posted the sky was blue, you couldn't bring yourself to agree. The disgusting tactic is your refusal to debate honestly. There's really no point in talking to you. I don't know why I bother. - Dan G -

DanG replied to funjumper101's topic in Speakers Corner
When analyzing a decision you need to look at both the costs and benefits. Subsidizing birth control has a cost. It costs money, and it creates some intransigent damage to the idea of personal responsibility. But it also has a benefit. It prevent unwanted pregnancy, and prevents abortions. For some reason you are only willing to admit to the cost. You can think the cost is too great, that's a valid opinion. But if you're not even willing to admit that there is a benefit, then you're just not discussing this honestly. - Dan G -

Birth control keeps people from having babies they can't support, and keeps people from having abortions. Both of these are things you've said you disapprove of. Can you at least agree that subsidizing birth control can prevent the greater evil of unwanted babies and abortions? - Dan G -

Not having babies you can't afford is a life choice that society would be smart to subsidize. Who's talking about cars and housing? - Dan G
