  1. Hi Michelle, Glad you are taking steps to get help. In particular get assessed for learning stlye. That can be critical. It sounds like you put a lot of effort in and that usually pays off in the end. Even if this difficulty prevents you from getting the exact mark that you want, it sounds like you have a strong work ethic so I wouldn't worry about this problem ending your academic career . Cheers, Richards My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.
  2. Michelle, One it sounds like Algebra has become your nemesis and therefore psychs you out a bit. Secondly you obviously suffer from extreme exam stress. Most universities provide workshops through their student services department that deal directly with exam anxiety. Some people have found these quite helpfull. You might want to spend a lot of time going to your professors office hours. This can be helpfull in two ways; one you can always get rapid feedback to problems, two if you get a marginal mark your professor might bump it up if he/she see's that you have been constantly coming for help. It is also usefull to consider the fact that exams are as much psychological as academic. It is easy to know the material yet fall apart as soon as you see the exam. You need to take care if your mental/emotional status before writing a test..for example; > Get a good nights sleep. Do not cram all night (diminishing returns on that) >Realise that if you are reviewing it the morning of, you will likely forget it all even if you knew it the night before. This is normal, all knowledge will return if you relax. > Do not keep reviewing right up untill the exam. Stop at least an hour or so before or you will fry yourself. >Do not enter the exam room until the last minute or you will simply sit there surrounded by other people whose stress will affect you. >Expect that everything on the exam will look different from the homework and you will initially draw a blank. This is normal. Relax, start working on what you can and a picture will start coming together. >Even if the exam is going to shit, stay relaxed. You should also ask to speak to a learning strategist (free consultations at most universities), so as to determine your learning style. There are several different styles of learning and if the way you have been taught to approach things is not consistent with your style then you are not getting as much cognitive understanding per unit of study as you could. If you do not know where to start finding these resources, approach your professor and ask him/her. I always find it a shame when otherwise bright people keep stumbling due to a learning problem that may very well be correctable. Sorry for being longwinded but I felt compelled to offer my input. Good luck with your studies. Richards My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.
  3. Why? Is someone pressuring you to jump? This sport does have risks. Most of accept those risks because we want to jump to satisfy ourselves. Why assume risk doing something to satisfy someone else? Because you are a normal person with reasonable fears. Most would question your mental state if there wasn't some fear. That said you do not want it to overwhelm you to the point that it impacts your development in the sport and your enjoyment. Have you discussed this with your instructors? They are the best people to help you work on this. Richards My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.
  4. Nah! That just means that when he gets paroled we have to support him with welfare. I would prefer if he had ben fitted with a toe tag. Save the taxpayers some cash and be rid of some useless parasite. 6. Some lowlife dirtbag tried to mug a lady who was weelchair bound (what a real man) and got the surprise of his life http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/09/09/wheelchair.shooter.ap/index.html Score one for the good guys. To bad she wasn't a better shot. It would have saved us the cost of incarcerating him and the inevitable unpleasantness of letting this loser roam the streets again someday. 7. Every time I leave the house i run around checking the faucets, lights, oven etc out of fear that I am going to leave something on. I also check several times that the door is locked before I can comfortably walk away and yet I am always nervous that I have forgotten something. Drives my wife crazy. 8. People who stop in the doorway of a store to decide where they are going to go. Clear the door! People who stop at the bottom/top of an escalator to decide wher to go next. Fucking move! Why do coffe shops not have a "Just Coffee" express line?I bet more than half of the people at Tim hortons or starbucks only want a coffee and yet the lines are always slow because the staff are preoccupied with food orders, double non-fat goat milk cinnamon lattes...etc. If you had a line that said "just coffee" I am sure they could cut down on the fucking line-ups! CELL_PHONES!!!!!!! I fucking hate those incessant noisemakers and I hate peope who show no consideration to others whe using them in classrooms, restaurents, movie theatres...etc! Winter! I hate winter!! It's too fucking cold! Ive complained endlessly about this problem yet no one has done anything about it! Have a lovely day, Richards My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.
  9. I appreciate your taking the time to offer perspective but I still have a question that bothers me. How can eternal damnation be rationalised. I can see the rational in never letting someone into heaven (eternal bliss must be earned) and I can even see temporary hell time being justified but why eternal suffering? If God feels someone simply does not deserve heaven then why not just get rid of him and make his soul cease to exist (he has the power to do that.). What is the purpose being served if after five hundred trillion milleniums of constantly screaming in horrific agony in a lake of fire the person has no end in sight to his/her suffering? What is the purpose of keeping a soul consious for an eternity simply to make that person scream from hideous unendurable mindbending agony? If it is too late for that person to change then what are you teaching the person? What crime deserves eternal horrific agony? The whole hell business seems so disproportionally cruel that it makes me frightened to even comprehend what kind of god could conceive something so horrificly sadistic. That makes me wonder if I should worship God for his grace or simply worship him for the same reason people in dictatorships worship their leaders (out of fear). I never asked him to create me; why should I be terrorized out of fear of hell if I don't meet the standards of someone who I did not ask to create me? I do not mean to be disrespectful to your religion. In fact my wife is a practicing Catholic and I respect those who have such strong faith in their religion but I seriously want to know the answers to some of my harder questions. 10. Seems a lot more reasonable than Christianity doesn't it? I mean no matter how many lifes you have fucked up you get infinitely more chances and the worst case scenario is being a lower life form temporarily and once you reach nirvana it is permanent. In Christianity you have approximately 65 years to make decisions that will have one of two extreme outcomes that will last an eternity. If you meet the standard during your one life you have eternal bliss; fuck up once too often and you get eternal horrific suffering. Heck christianity sentences you to eternal agony even if due to personal suffering you end your own life. Part of me really hopes the buddists are right because christianity is too extreme in its outcomes. 11. Which is cheaper? My primary concern would be minimizing cost for my family. No preference. Richards My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.
  12. Given a choice I would retreat and/or call the cops but failing that I would use a gun. Why should I give anyone a fair chance at hurting me. Even if he is half my size and armed with a broken bottle I would still prefer to not risk using a knife if I can disable him from outside his swinging range with a gun. When my own safety is in question "fair" does not enter the equation. 14. Fair enough. Make that argument to people but do not make it mandatory. It will create a barrier. there are many people who could only afford shitty second hand equipment and can only make enough jumps each season to just stay current. 17. I have seen so many of my freinds get all worked up in the past when I brought it up and they have all said "I really want to do that". When the time comes they always have other things to do. Therefore I no longer encourage it. If they wish to try it is up to them. 18. My rig does not have an AAD. I coud not afford one when I bought gear and I cannot afford one now (professional student). I agree that anyone who can afford one should get one but I seriously hope the CSPA does not make them mandatory because it would create another barrier to entry for anyone in a lower income bracket. Strongly advise use of AAD's but do not enforce! Richards My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.

  20. I aim to please. If you saw my pathetic display when they rushed me you would no be so generous, but I appreciate your lenience. 21. Been there. Initially I was scared when a whole bunch came to me at once trying to get some food (kind of like at a petting zoo when you have feed and the little guys crowd you). After I finished screeching in terror, i found them to be quite gentle animals and really enjoyed the experience of swimming with them and hand feeding them. Curious how someone like him could be kiled by one of them Richards My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.
  22. I do not see how what I suggested implies genocide. Is this defnition wrong?... "any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial or religious group, as such: Killing members of the group; Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group; Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part; Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group; and forcibly transferring children of the group to another group." I am also curious about the implied link between capitalism and genocide. I have seen examples of non capitalistic societies committing genocide so can you explain the link between the two? Curious. 24. I like that idea. If these animals only exterminated each other without actually killing human beings, who would actually worry that much about gang violence? It would become a self regulating problem by keeping their population down with little or no risk to people.
