I am presuming the rate is definitely compounded monthly (be absolutely sure of that before you proceed) After that it is reasonably simple but you have an error in your formula. PMT= (PV*r)/{1-1/[(1+r)^n]} n= number of periods PMT=Payment PV=Present Value (principle) R= APR (annualised interest rate) r=R/12 You should be able to confirm your answer using the TVOM tables in any finance text or by using a financial calculator (warning if all you inputs in a financial calculator are positive it will give the answer as a negative even though it is positive). If you can, post the full question and I can at least show you the process and confirm your answer. Sometimes you have to fight fire with fire. Find a method of harrassing/hurting them that is technically constitutional and do it 24/7. Curious to see thier views on freedom of expression when they are the target. Short answer: No. Could you possibly see a use for one? The idea is valid when you think that any Constitution/Charter is written by mere humans who are flawed by design. Surely their must be a means of addressing issues like this. Ours has been abused but it has also been used for valid reasons too. I think the pro's do outwiegh the cons. Does anybody know what happened to Fraser Valley Skydiving?
Richards replied to Richards's topic in Events & Places to Jump
I used to jump at Chilliwack but i stopped a several years ago. I recently found that they apparently are no longer operating, and i was curious what happened. >Why are they closed? >Will they re-open? I cannot contact them even at thier e-mail so I cannot find out directly. Just curious. But doesn't what they are doing qualify as harrassment? I realise we have had debate before but bubble zones have been implemented around abortion clinics...why not cemetaries? I am not familiar with the US Constitution but I am curious as to whether you have something similar to our Notwithstanding Clause which allows temporary laws to be implemented "notwithstanding" the charter in unique cases like this. The reason it only allows temporary changes is to prevent "slippery slope" risks. It is only used rarely, yet in extreme cases it has been put to good effect where people were abusing the strict wording of the Charter. Another blatant example of human cruelty that is allowed by the "constitution". It's a shame that everytime someone suggests bringing in a law that allows the police to enforce a bubble zone around funerals, someone accuses that person of being a Nazi. Despite the fact that the constitution technically allows these people to torment people who are trying to mourn a loved one, can someone please explain to me (without silly flames or personal attacks) why passing such a buble zone law would put us on a slippery slope to totalitarianism? Please use simple language for a non-lawyer type like me rather than complex legalisms. I acknowledge that it can be done by some but there are many who cannot. Your profile says you are a research analyst , and you have refered to having a grad degree. Not trying to nitpick but there is a large portion of society that are likely in a much lower income bracket than you are. For some couples without kids to spend on, they are barely paying their mortgage and putting away for retirement. I agree that our society's tendency to put materialistic needs first is unfortunate but that does not fit a large portion of our workforce. Many families have one spouse working in a non-union blue collar job and one working as a temp or receptionist. Employers are demanding more for less nowadays and many jobs simply sub-contract positions out to staffing agencies who pay thier people next to nothing. Good for you that you can do it but realistically many people simply cannot. Thats almost impossible these days. Salaries are not keeping up with inflation and housing prices on average are going through the roof. Parents aren't both working because they are materialistic yuppies. They are both working in many cases because that is the only way to make ends met. Reality does not conform to normative expectations. Richards My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.

Staggering. If you are an adult you have a constitutional god given right to be protected against any and all indignities, but if you are a kid then you have to suck it up and deal with it. Or worse. In the 5th grade I was being bullied horrendously by a kid who was supposed to be in the 7th grade and my parents had been calling the principle constantly about the abuse I faced and the fact that I was terrified of seeing the guy when I entered the school property. The school basically told my father that I was going to have to learn to handle myself. Since he had been on the Boxing Team in the Army he actually taught me a bit about protecting myself and told me that I would need to stand up if confronted or this guy was never going to stop. Anyway, one day this guy starts pushing me to the ground with all of his freinds watching and kept calling me a pussy and challenging me to fight him. I was scared but I let loose a straight right and down he went. In fairness i might not have landed it so cleanly if he had not been so overconfident. He ran away trying to hide the fact that he was crying. The Vice-Principle said my options were suspension or the strap (yes we still had that when I was in school). He explained that despite all the physical abuse that this guy had dished out he had never punched me in the face so I was the bad guy. The bully's parents were threatenning to sue the school. Fortunately I did get off the hook in the end but the school really wanted to make an example of me. A great tragedy struck today in the US Hops supply, and it could have serious ramifications for the US beer market http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/10/03/hops.fire.ap/index.html Now I ask you all to join me in a moment of silence to reflect upon this great tragedy. Unfortunately some are incapable of developing those skills on their own, and because they are weird, nobody wants to take the time to help them with that. Agreed but the first step is to get teachers to stop implicitly condoning it by pretending that they don't notice, when even the students know they do. Damn. I had always tried to maintain a naive assumption that either it would be instant or I would at least go into shock so fast that I would not be feeling too much. Thanks for ruining that for me. Never an acceptable response Doesn't it infuriate you when a teacher has the gall to look you in the eye and lie like that. How the hell can they not see this sort of thing. Maybe the occasional incedent but please don't tell me that all of these incedents go unnoticed. Yes but adults(teachers) who implicitly condone bullying by pretending not to see it are far worse Bingo. I am sorry your child is going through this and you are receiving so little cooperation. Unfortunately some teachers realise that allowing it to go unchecked untill you send him to another school is easier for them in the long run than actually doing their job and risking the wrath of the bully's parents. The parents of bullies will always raise more of a fuss than the parents of the bullied. If I may make a suggestion, can you find out how many other kids at his school are having the same problem? If so perhaps you can band together with their parents and start putting some real pressure on the principal/teachers as a group. If every parent is documenting every incident and putting collective pressure on the faculty it might yeild more positive results. A group of parents can even demand a meeting with the school superintendant and start putting pressure on the principle from above. Another good reason for documenting every incident and complaint is that someday your son may fight back and if the other kid gets hurt, I can guarantee that the school will want to throw the book at your son unless you can produce written documentation of complaints (I know this from personal experience). Again the school will choose the path of least resistance rather than the right path. I wish you the best of luck with this because I realise how difficult this situation is. Thank you. I should not have had to though. If I had been singled out for being a minority the teachers would have been immediately jumped in to stop it. I don't know if you could have called me a bully since the ones I was going after were "tough guys" who had brought it on themselves, rather than little weak guys who could not defend themselves. Perhaps "vigilante" might have been a more appropriate analogy since I not only returned the favour to those who harmed me, but also made a point of intervening when I saw it happenning to someone else. By grade 11/12 if I saw some asshole terrorizing/humiliating some grade nine student or some little guy who couldn't defend himself then I stepped in and dispensed a little lesson in humiliation to the bastard. I am not saying it was right but I can guarante that if I did not step in no-one else would have (not even teachers). Sometimes a bully needs a little public humiliation before he wakes up and stops that nonsense. I cannot argue that point fully because I acknowledge that my approach to these things was a bit archaic but it did seem appropriate at the time. After years of being the target while teachers stood by and did nothing it felt good to be able to provide the justice that the system could have provided but chose not to. Would I do that today? No. So i guess you could take that as a concession that you are right It wasn't all bad. Again by about midway through grade 10 I seemed to do a 180 with my social life and suddenly had lots of freinds and got invited to all the important parties. After that I matured socially and found life much more tolerable. Would I have taken a gun to school? No. If you really are that desperate for revenge at someone who is tormenting you (and i am not saying that revenge is acceptable) then you should take it directly to the individual who harmed you. Guys who do these school shootings not only kill innocent students who did nothing to them, they also cause lifetime psychological scarring to the people who survive the shooting. I can never condone or excuse that. Thank you. I am actually a big fan of the principle behind these "Zero Tolerance" policies at schools. I realise that there have been arguments that it has not been applied in an equitable manner and some students have been penalised stupidly for carrying scissors to art class, which is dumb. You social status and your ability to defend yourself should not dictate your high school experience Richards My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.

if so, he snapped after 20 years, and picked on girls who had nothing to do with it. IOW. not applicable here. Agreed . As I stated I was not familiar with this case. Obviously this guy is a sicko who targetted people who did nothing to him. I just wanted to make the point that this is not as black and white as both the pro gun and anti gun lobby tend to paint it. I usually find that when you look at these shootings there seems to be a bit of a pattern leading up to it. It is so frequent now that 15 minutes of infamy seems about right. I am not sure that it is purely a case of unarmed victims since there are many other choice locations for unarmed victims like, postal ofices or even hospitals ( the bedridden would not even be able to run or even get out of bed to hide). That said I am not a big fan of gun bans or any form of limmitting a persons right to self defence. However in these cases (I do not know the specifics of this one) it is usually a case of a bullied student snapping. Having been bullied when I was a kid (untill about grade 10 when I magically doubled in size) I can say for a fact that teachers themselves hate dorky loser types as much as the "normal" students do, and as a result teachers will turn a blind eye to a normal kid (or several normal kids) tormenting a misfit, yet will throw the book at the misfit if he crosses any lines in self defence. For example lets look at the guys who shot up Columbine. Before I get started let me state clearly that I do not accept a persons circumstances as an excuse for their actions and that I think these shooters should be shitting there pants when they stand in front of St. Peter. I am merely pointing out that sometimes teachers seem to watch contemptuously while normal kids throw flames at a human powder keg. A documentary I saw about the incident said that shortly before the shooting, both of those guys had been sitting in the cafeteria trying to eat lunch while many of the "normal" kids had thrown food at them while yelling "geek/loser/dork" at these guys until they had to leave the cafeteria under a barrage of food while the teachers did nothing....nothing. Now I ask you; If a school of predominately white students had pelted food at a couple of black kids while yelling "nigger" do you thing the faculty would have stood there and let that happen(if they cared about their jobs). Conversely if two black students had been chased out of a school cafeteria under a barrage of food while students chanted "nigger" while the teachers stood there and did nothing, can you honestly say that it would not have have been all over the six oclock news that night. It did not matter in this case because it was not perceived as wrong because these guys were just "losers" and thats why nothing was done. I am in no way making excuse for there actions since they killed innocent human beings and deserve to burn in hell for that but since we put so much effort into asking about the underlying causes of terrorism, crime rates in black communities... etc, we may take a moment and ask why it is always some loser who does this kind of thing and maybe why it is seen as OK to abuse these people, and if perhaps one leads to another. I got very lucky and put on a lot of size early on in high school and was able to stop that abuse on my own and take a little pleasure in returning the favour to a few of my former tormentors (again, and again, and again...) thus exorcising any of my demons but many people are simply not capable of standing up for themselves and, because they are "losers" the teachers seem to convince themselves that these losers "bring it on themselves". John I agree with you that people go overboard with thier knee-jerk "lets ban guns" response to these things and I am a strong beleiver in allowing a person the means to defend themselves effectively, but I also think that there needs to be more accountability at the faculty level about dealing with this because in my opinion the faculty are the biggest part of the problem. Again this is not an excuse for these guys because I hate when criminals whine about thier hardships in life "wha-wha-wha, I got it so bad...I be oppressed...mom does crack, sister is a street whore and sometimes I just don't feel fresh...etc" Cheers, Richards My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.
