  1. Dirtbags. Lock them up and throw away the key. Regarding the responsibilityof the web site owners, there should be a greater degree of responsibility put on them. 2. Surround them in bubble wrap and make sure they are wearing oxygen masks when they go outside...come to think of it, it would be safer to keep them inside all thier lives. 3. Maybe we can take up a collection and buy Jean Claude some acting lessons. Richards My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.
  4. I don't know for sure but my default position would be to provide a certain degree of health care if feasible while enforing user fees. The age old problem becomes the culture of entitlement that will surely accompany free health care. The trade offs are; >Compassion- I would hope that our society, as prosperous as it is can provide at leats basic care for people who need it. >Externalities> I don't have any figures to back this but surely providing therapy that can get someone back to work must in many cases be cheaper than UI/Disability/welfare payments. Regrettably in Canada we have seen these sort of health care issues spiral from basic health needs being covered, to comprehensive coverage of all niceties while lineups grew longer and funding depleted. During the era of Ontarios former premier Bob Rae (the fool who coined the phrase "Socialism is love" and who aims to be our next liberal PM), there was a scandal where OHIP was being billed for things like breast implants, tattoo removal...etc. I may be being harsh here but I was a bit put off by my tax dollars going to buff peoples egos and erase bad choices. Currently people who are unhappy with thier given gender can get a sex change operation covered by health care since not allowing it would be "Un-Canadian" Our culture of health care entitlement has led to gratuitous consumption of health care dollars to the point of health care gluttony. For example; I had to go to a walk in clinic due to a workplace concussion and while in the waiting room I heard people cueing up at the receptionists desk for thier visits and declaring thier medical issues which apparently required a doctors attention. These problems included...a headache, a blister, sore pecs from having worked out...etc. It seems that at one point in Canada we were able to maintain a health care program when everyone appreciated it and no-one took it for granted (before it got politicized) so I suspect it is feasible but it needs to be regulated, limmitted and prioritized so it remains feasible. I suspect that if we limited what could be covered and charged usere fees while providing tax incentives to companies that would provide the rest for thier employees it could be acheived but I am only speculating. 7. I couldn't agree more! I will even apply that to high schools and universities. All to often there is a trade-off between academic needs and the demands of special interest groups. At a time where I was trying to set up a TA centre for academic support I was told there was no space yet every student group had thier own space (which was usually used as a hangout) rather than having to share an office/room between them. Students were failing first year business course in high numbers yet we could neither fund this centre nor could we take space away from people who demanded space to pray, get in touch with thier inner child, explore thier sexuality...etc. It eventually got off the ground but I was alarmed by the lack of priorities. 8. The really pathetic thing is that what you have just told me does not surprise me. Every group wants a piece of the action. Richards My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.
  9. Nothing to fear. Parents pulling thier kids out due to the fact that they disagree with something in the schools is a wee bit ridiculous. I am not a big fan of attributing months/weeks to issues like that. It tends to create a list of groups that want their own recognition month (Gay Muslim Nazi month, Left handed Metrosexual Vegetarian Month, Right Wing Communist month...etc). If the idea is education about the history of distinct groups then allow these to be optional extra-curricular activities otherwise with every group lining up for thier timeshare on a month they will squeeze out those other things taught in school (you know.. like math, reading..etc). If the idea is simply to promote tolerance, I am sure that tolerance in general can be included in the school curriculum without each group having thier own month promoting tolerance of thier group. Either way it is not a huge issue to me one way or the other. 11. Gracias. I'm actually a "Fat Ugly hatemongering intolerant lefty gay communist tree hugging Nazi Neocon" I can't believe you are supporting George Orwell*** I think there are some valid points to Orwellian warnings about government control, but sometimes fear of one extreme makes people go too far the other way .In fairness I have never read Orwell but my wife has and she summarised the general theme to me. I acknowledge there is a gunuine reason to keep tabs on our government and controls on thier power but I also feel that some people are paranoid about it to the point where they would render the government impotent in it's ability to do its job (which includes protecting us). Be cautious of excess government control .....yes Fear them like an enemy.........no. 12. It's hilarious how people automatically polarize you as "one of them" for not blindly submitting to thier agenda. My associates on the far left have called me a hatemongering intolerant Nazi yet my asociates on the right have accused me of being a gay communist tree-hugger. Precisely the problem. Neither Liberal/democrat voters or Conservative/Republican voters will ever acknowledge the other party/wing has a valid point. Too many people pledge alliegance to thier wing and blindly submit to every agenda forwarded by that wing. I think regardles of your wing/party if you cannot at least point out a few issues where the other wing/party has the right idea and your party doesn't then you have stopped thinking and are letting your wing think for you as you march along obediantly to your wings/party's drumbeat. This is an all to common tendency today. The very fact that Americans ask this question with such frequency, diminishes (does not eliminate) the probability that this could happen. I do however have a counter question. Does our inherent fear of Orwellian big brother, slippery slope to totalitarianism not sometimes cripple our willingness to support radical new laws? I often notice that when it comes to new laws regarding crime prevention, some quite effective propositions are immediately shot down for fear of "big brother". Is there a double edged sword argument there? Richards My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.
  13. That was probably worse than the spanking. Richards My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.
  14. I was apanked as a kid but in every case I had it coming. It was considered normal back then. As for spanking my own kids (when I have some) I do not think I would be able to do that. I am not passing judgement on those who do but I am sure there are other ways I can instill discipline without spanking. Perhaps I am just a wimp but thats my position. 15. OK. I just find that people often do not factor in that in a situation like that victims can get a bit myopic with respect to thier danger. I once had a guy go nuts on me by surprise (did not actually physically attack me but was threatenning and right in my personal space and he was going fucking nuts) yet because I did not have time to assess the situation and it was such a surprise i almost panicked and was going to flatten the guy before he could flatten me. He was a bit taller yet skinnier but at the time he seemed frigging huge due to the fact that i was caught so off guard. After the fact i realised that to an observer I would have looked like an asshole for hitting such a skinny guy if I had done so but at the time I was not able to process all the info given that I was was a stunned as a deer in the headlights. Sorry my post bothered you so much. Richards My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.
  16. Precisely I was thinking an unmarked grave. Depressing is not an adequate word for that story. It sickens me that members of the human race can do such things. 17. Sometimes when you think you don't understand the material you actually know more than you think you do. Try not to allow fear of math exams to become a bigger enemy than math. Exam anxiety has done more harm to me in the past than lack of knowledge. Wishing you the best of luck. Cheers
  18. By virtue of being put on the ground, he has demonstrated that he at a disadvantage to the other man. It may also be that the attack came as such a surprise that he was hurt early on and somewhat less able to effectively defend himself at that point. That, combined with the overwhelming fear he must have felt when attacked by a man threatenning to kill him may have left him feeling like lethal force was the only option. Timeliness was critical when he was attacked and he didn't have time to consult members of a discussion forum to debate the various options that may have been available to him. 21. True. And regrettably Canadians would be defenceless in that situation. By the time our cops actually got around to showing up the intended victim would be dead or hospitalised. Richards My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.
  22. Seems pretty straight forward to me. The guy attacked a random victim without warning . He actually got the victim on the ground and stated his intention to kill him. The shooter was in danger and responded appropriately. The guy only fired one shot in self defence. He should not be charged. It is a good thing that no innocent people were killed. 23. Holy crap! I never heard of this. Who was killed? I am sorry to ask such a morbid question but I new some of the people there quite well at one point and I have been meaning to drop a line but I have lost all of the personal numbers and the DZ number no longer works. If there is an article could you post it please? Richards My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.
  24. Reading a history book, I recall there was an officer in the British Army around the time of the falklands I beleive, who's last name was "Coward". Man he must have been picked on during (and I suppose after) training. i had to re-read the name because I almost couldn't beleive it.
