I doubt that a law making it illegal for him to conceal his guns would have stopped him. I realise this is a hot button issue but I have always felt that the fundamental right to be able to defend ones-self is a must. I cannot woo anyone with stats to back my position ( I realise there are stats to back both sides of the argument), but I still would rather have the right to be able to protect myself. Regardless of whether other people feel it is an effective means, it should still be my choice. Take the time to look around both BC (Check out Pitt Meadows DZ, Stanley Park, Grouse Grind, Whistler, Squamish, and the Island. Oh yeah, Vancouver) and Alberta (Calgary, Banff and Lake Louise). Driving through the Rockies in winter is not fun so you may want to do it in spring. Saskatchewan and Manitoba are good places to miss. The drive though western Ontario is quite scenic, some good dropzones in Ontario STI in Barrie, Mile High near Ottawa. You will hit quebec on the way to the Maritimes but that is OK, because the ordeal will be over before you know it. Stop in Neffland and do the screetch ritual. Again it depends on the time of year. In the winter it gets snowy. Also watch for wild animals on the highway. Many a driver has destroyed his car crashing into a Rocky Mountain Bighorn Kangaroo. If it is summer try surfing off Vancouer island; apparently pretty popular and no great whites. Canada: Refugee claimant "not gay enough" for asylum
Richards replied to Andy9o8's topic in Speakers Corner
The story itself doesn't describe persecution. It claims a broken home with a violent abusive father. He doesn't have to come to Canada to move away from his father, he can move to the next town. Furthermore, as he had already reached a "safe third country " by landing in Texas (if not the other latin american countries he traveled through to get here), he should be turned away from any refugee hearing and sent back to th first safe country he arrived in. Canada: Refugee claimant "not gay enough" for asylum
Richards replied to Andy9o8's topic in Speakers Corner
His father was a homophobe-We have homophobes in Canada too, so how does he claim it is neccessary to move to Canada? We have hate crimes against gays. What he faces back there is not persecution. He faces discrimination which is distinctly different, and also exists here in Canada. He faced domestic violence-We have domestic violence in Canada. Again I do not see how Canada can provide refuge against a problem we have here. I am sorry but this guy does not fit the definition of a refugee. To qualify he would have to face systemic persecution back home and since this statement.... . ......indicates that he clearly does not then he is not a refugee. He may face discrimination but he is not a refugee. Khaki, who will file a motion in federal court tomorrow to stay the removal. "In my view, the refugee board has failed to recognize that my client is a victim of violence, a victim of abuse. He's simply vulnerable, whether he's gay or straight."*** These independant refugee lawyers/consultants are part of the problem. They are paid to advise their clients on how to best convince a refugee board that they are victims. They know exactly which key words/phrases to have their clients use to impress a refugee board. Kudos to the boardmembers for having the courage to make the correct decision. Texas proposes death penalty for child molesters.
Richards replied to Lindercles's topic in Speakers Corner
Use them for medical experiments. 1: They deserve it 2: They can actually repay society to some extent. 3: I find it so sad that we use innocent animals who have harmed no-one while these sickos get 3 squares a day, a roof over their head, benefits and a lawyer to make sure their "rights" are protected. He means well but I do not think he will find people as honest as he expects. People may not always skip on the bill but will they actually pay a fair price? I doubt it. Blind tust just begs for abuse. My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.

Texas proposes death penalty for child molesters.

It's about time. I do not understand why people would get all bent out of shape because a kiddie molester ends up facing the gallows. We do not mind killing cockroaches, why get upset if a pedofilth ends up getting the rope? Good riddance. I never said it didn't look bad. I always take the position that since I have never been in a combat situation I try to refrain from jumping to conclusions until there is at least a little more detail. In this case the cat is out of the bag (with the video) so the details of the inquiry may become avaiable to the public as a result. I agree that it looks bad. I just find that when street criminals are arrested everyone wants to bend over backwards to make sure that their rights (fair trial, blind justice...etc) are protected yet when a cop or soldier ends up in the hotseat people tend to want to hang them. It looks bad but since I have never been in combat I prefer to wait and hear the findings of an inquiry conducted by those who have experience before I make any judgements. Why not wait until there has been a formal inquiry before jumping to conclusions. My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.

ME! Most people interpret that trait as me being a stubborn ass. Most people think I am uniquely an asshole I have a bad temper After a few beers you can't shut me up When a girl says that about me I assume she is politely saying she will never have sex with me I like to think so but no-one is fooled by it when I try to act tough. I think so but everyone else disagrees My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.

I agree that they did not handle it well and there will need to be some accountability, but I think we should wait for a full inquiry before we crucify them. My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.

"It's either Me or Skydiving Hon - Choose." Anyone really heard that?
Richards replied to Unstable's topic in The Bonfire
In fainess the issue may not entirely be one of control. If it was hockey or pool I could see the control argument but if someone who does not jump is married to a jumper then there is more to the debate. Skydiving is one of a few activities where your wife/husband could get a call saying that you will not be coming home at the end of the weekend and all thier future dreams with you are now cancelled because you are dead. Particularly if there are kids involved I could see this becoming an issue. Not always the case, but let us not forget that to most people our idea of fun seems suicidaly crazy. Imagine if every weekend you were a nervous wreck because someone who meant the world to you hurled their body earthward at about 120 miles an hour, while depending on a peice of cloth to prevent their body from being pulverized on impact with the earth (I apologise for being graphic but I am trying to make a point).
