Did his daughters say it is a noble war? What if they don't beleive in it? One of Reagans daughters opposed everything he did. For all we know the Bush daughters may hate the war. His daughters did not send anyone off to war. No-one else has been conscripted, why should they? Where have his daughters been talking the talk on the war? I could see if you were saying "he should go fight" but his daughters are not responsible for the war. I would have to know more about his specific case before I could offer an opinion. Not sure I follow. If the guy has already discussed a sexual encounter while being told that she is a minor, if he shows up at the house (with condoms) I think we are stretching probabilities to say he may not do anything. In many cases they have shown the correspondence where the guy expresses his concern that he might get into legal trouble (which says that he intends to do more than talk). Do they stand there with a camera and wait untill he is actually engaged in intercourse with a minor before they can comfortably move in and make the arrest? At some point there is a line of no return, where his intentions can be reasonably assumed. Very true My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.

Not sure what that has to do with a few well meaning journalists exposing some of these creeps. They still get a chance in front of a jury, regardless of what happens on camera. You're right, we should have 15-minute summary trials in front of lower court judges (non-lawyers) and sentence them at the same time. I was certainly not suggesting that we skip the trial. I just don't agree with the line of thinking that portrays the guy as a victim. He can still get a lawyer and go to court to plead his case. I simply feel that I do not have sympathy for these guys if they get embarrased on TV. I do not feel that this show has victimised them. In the court of public opinion I and television viewers have every right to judge him a scumbag. Since I in my living room am not responsible for arriving at a verdict that will impact his freedom, I can look at the obvious and say that the evidence is pretty strong and he is a dirtbag. I can't see the harm in grabbing these guys this way. My party? Not following that one but it sounds like we are taking a sharp turn towards politics. Please clarify. At the point where I watch the trial and evidence and understadn the rulings by teh judge. Judges can refuse to admit critical evidence taht would have rendered a differnet ruling. Judges can refuse a defendant's defense and make them choose a more pallatable one that is of teh liking of teh court, rendering exonertaing evidecnce unheard. Learn a bit about the system and become nausiated. I am not refering to me personally sentencing him to jail. I agree with you that he still has a right to have a trial and a lawyer, but since investigative reporters expose dirtbags on TV all the time why not pedophiles too? I do, This is what I don't get. Why do you not like seeing these guys being humiliated on camera? It might just make some people who are considering such behaviour think twice. I realize that pedophilia will continue to exist in varying degrees and that the hardcore ones will never be detered, but surely most start with that one first step and if some borderline cases (who have a 50/50 chance of never acting on their impulses) see some guy with a wife and a career destroyed on national television it might just make a few of them afraid to make that first step. It will not eliminate the problem but it might discourage new participants. Like any other problem, every bit does help on the margin. I agree that the show is doing good things. I do not know why the cops are not doing this on their own. My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.

I am glad to hear that. the way soem people throw that word around I was starting to worry if it actually held that much weight in a court. Ends justifies the means? If we kill all Arabs and we have no more terrorism, is it a bad thing to kill all Arabs? I don;t think these stings are entrapment, but I don't like ends/means ars either. I think you might have misunderstaood me (or I didn't explain myself well). Obviously I do not wish that they use such sweeping measures that innocents are at high risk of being wrongly convicted. I do feel however that if it can get those who are bad without any legal "collateral damage" then the methodology used to get Mr. bad guy to land himself in prison is usually OK with me. No-one executed him. He made his own choice. Uh no. The "little girl" look doesn't do it for me. My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.

I don't think anyone is against making sure that we don't imprison the wrong guy, but it seems that these guys are caught in the act and start whining about entrappment. There is little chance of getting the wrong guy when you have e-mails from his computer, graphic descriptions of the sex acts he wants to perform (on the undercover guy he presumes is a child), and he shows up at the address the "kid" gave him with a bottle of wine, flowers and condoms. At what point do you say the guy is just a scumbag and guilty as sin. Even if that is officially up to a jury (with respect to criminal conviction), I have no problem with having the guy trembling and crying on TV while his wife, freinds and co-wokers watch the show and see what filth he is. My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.

I agree, but it seems in this case they wanted to cooperate but the cops didn't (unless I read it wrong) This is exactly why this show is great. It makes these guys fear the possiblity of a sting so some can be discouraged from trying it in the first place. My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.

You raise valid concerns. I guess I was just curious why the police would not then want to cooperate. Again I only have the news article to go on, but I am curious. I really don't understand the rationale behind the "entrapment" argument. It seems like if you are not a bad guy, you will not be entrapped and if you do get entrapped then you would have done it anyway only then you would have victimised someone instead of walking into a sting. It seems that the whole entrapment argument is another version of "lets hold the system responsible for the individuals choices". I will never in my life be entrapped because i have no inclination to pursue the kind of activities that could lead me into such a trap. If entrapment gets bad guys off the street what is the big deal. I know I have asked about entrapment before on this site but I still don't get it (I did not study law). Can you explain to me in laymens terms without all kinds of legal jargon why it is unethical to trick a guy who wishes to harm little children into thinking he has a victim so you can catch him? No! Yes!No! Yes!No! Yes!No! Yes! They shouldn't have any rights, but it is still fun to watch them crying and begging. Those are the only rights that matter to me My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.

This indicates to me that there was no police involved and no one was arrested. I suppose the police should have gotten involved but since they didn't, I think they have a legitimate gripe. The pervs were let free and now they can destory any evidence on their computers. I was curious my self as to why the cops didn't want to cooperate. It seems that it would gift wrap them a perv. I can see the concern with letting the guy go, although I was under the impression that even if one of these guys deleted his hard drive, there would still be a permanent trace the police could retreive. I may be wrong there. My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.

I cannot sympathise with the man particularly since he clearly had to be aware of the law in that situation. Any situation where a person can be arrested and have their picture in the paper can result in a suicide. We cannot stop trying to enforce laws due to that. I always felt (I have no figures to back this) that these kind of sting type operations deter more people than they acually catch so the end result benefits society. I feel that the risk trade-off is worth it. Even if he had not acted (yet) on his urges, I suspect that if he was already at the stage where he was even talking sex to minors then he was crossing a serious line, and he would most likely have arranged to meet that person. The man dug his owngrave. My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.

Why does my post exemplify why we will never see accountability? Because I don't want to shoot first and ask questions later? I am curious how the case worker was not aware of this and I would gladly see him punished to the fullest extent if he was at fault. How do we know if his job had him actually dropping in regularly or not? How do we know he had not already repeatedly reported concerns to his superiors? I don't see why it would be wrong to at least investigate before we start crucifying. I have never had a problem with severely punishing people who commit crimes but I do like to make sure we get the right person and not just a scapegoat. I also never stated that we couldn't both punish those responsible and correct the system. I simply pointed out that in the rush to hang the case worker we should not overlook systemic problems that could have lead to this or the situation will repeat itself. I was not there and to the best of my knowledge neither were you. Yes I suspect that the case worker was criminally negligent but again why not see what the inquiry uncovers? I would be glad to burn the foster mother alive and likewise to anyone in CAS who was aware/suspicious of this and did nothing. Unfortunately witch hunts that grab the most convenient scapegoat tend to produce a "cover your ass" culture which can actually be counterproductive in situations like this. http://www.thestar.com/News/article/195250 Never saw that one coming. I would have presumed they appreciated the efforts. It's too bad really, I found it oh so amusing watching the pedofools shitting their pants when they saw the cameras. Do the cops have a valid argument on this or are they just upset that someone is pissing in their territory? The systematic abuse of children demands accountability from the individuals doing this. Again though just jumping on the front line childrens aid worker without looking at the system and processes, might be innefective regardless of how gratifying it may be to flay the guy. If the worker acted dilligently in accordance with the policies set out by the childrens aid society then, the problem is the system and that is what needs to be changed. For all we know there may be limitations on the kind of invasive monitoring a worker can do on a potential foster parent and the person could lose his/her job for crossing that line. If however there were specific guidelines or standards of reasonable conduct set out that this person failed to adhere to then flail away. Seeing this abuse made me want someones head but I would prefer to place priority on making sure it does not happen again. Kudos to the American system for placing a premium on educated immigrants (and hopefully on employing them in thier feild). Canada's overly lax family reunification plan has resulted in an intake where only 23% of immigrants meet our criteria for immigration, and the ones with skills are denied the opportunity to work in their feild so engineers end up driving cabs thus denying us any gains on immigration. In fairness, those with low education are not interacting with the immigrants you describe. They are labourers who are challenged by illegal immigrants who are driving them out of employment and driving salaries (and thus standard of living) down for the lower soci-economic class. Resenting that does not imply xenophobia neccessarily, these guys are treating (illegal) immigrants the way union members treat scabs. Mexican workers in the southern part of Mexico are equally hostile to illegal Guatemalan labour who come even cheaper than Mexicans and thus further diminish the standard of living for Mexicans. I cannot address this directly as I can only refer to the Canadian experience, but the "we desperately need immigrants" argument is used here in Canada to justify an excessive immigration intake, despite the fact that many leading economists at various institutions have argued that in fact we do not need immigration for our economy neccessarily. Like most government policies (tax, government spending etc) it can have a stabilizing effect at times but also like those policies it can do harm if mismanaged, or utilized for political reasons rather than sound economic arguments. Don't know about duration but since they are a rare item i would use asap. Fried sunyside up to put a couple on top of a nice striploin (rare) is rather enjoyable. My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.

Wait and see. We have had problems with child services here in Canada too so maybe it is something systemic that needs to be overhauled, rather than specifically targetting individual childrens aid workers (unless an investigation suggests otherwise). It appears to happen all too often though, so I think that there needs to be some sort of investigation into how child services selects and monitors foster parents.
