Sex offender registration...always appropriate?
Richards replied to livendive's topic in Speakers Corner
The problem then is not the list for sex offenders, but the criteria for being declared a sex offender. For the actual offenders I think registration is good. My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within. -
Sex offender registration...always appropriate?

I don't get what Jews or Homosexuals did to be lumped in with pople who have made a conscious choice to harm little children? My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within. -
If he was there at the time and in the heat of the moment (provided he was not there as an accomplice) then yes I could also sympathise with him killing after watching the father of the first victim kill his son in cold blood. It is just human reaction. I agree with the principle of restraint but I am not sure the reactions of a man who just watched his son murdered, are reflective of his level of self control or ability to own a gun. Yes there is risk that if he is allowed to keep his guns after this and if another one of his sons is murdered before his very eyes he might go on a killing rage agin, but that is no more likely for him than for anyone else My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.

I don't want to sound like a violent vigilante type but I suspect most people upon seeing their son murdered right before their eyes might kill all parties to the crime rather than just the trigger man. Not right, but still a human reaction in the moment. My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.

Sex offender registration...always appropriate?
Richards replied to livendive's topic in Speakers Corner
I would not have any interest in a witch hunt. If I knew one was in my neighborhood I would leave him alone (I'm not a vigilante). I would prefer to know so that in particular I could advise my children that above and beyond the "do not talk to strangers" talk I could tell them that Mr. Perve will always be a stranger regardless of how nice he may act and they are not to ever speak to him and they are to tell me immediately if he ever approaches them or tries to speak to them. My argument stated that in unique situations like that, there could be exceptions. My only thought is that I would rather have it be a reverse onus thing where they have to present an argument why they shouldn't be on it. While there are some unique cases that may merit consideration, I would normally prefer the option of knowing if one moved into my neighborhood, particularly if I had children of my own. So what's your take on this ruling? My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.

So we kill 4 birds with one stone. Why is that a problem? I have problems with criminals being given a guarantee that based on their level of participation they can limit how far the punishment goes. Maybe knowing that if the guy who's inviting you to be his driver on a robbery in effect will be making decisions that may cost you your life might make you reluctant to be his driver and many of these guys might not get people to assist them in the first place. No-one offers us potential victims any such guarantee (if you walk down 6th street you are guaranteed that nothing worse than a mugging will happen to you, if you take 8th street however the risk raises to being raped but you are guranteed that murder is not a possibility). We have no such limmited risk profiles, why should they? Maybe adding a little uncertainty to the mix might deter some. (You think you are about to assist in a robbery but who knows, you might face the death penalty if your partner in crime goes nuts. Is it worth the risk?) Maybe them commiting less of those crimes might result in fewer of them being represented in the prison system or death row. I have always had a problem with the racial disparity argument. It is like saying rape and sexual harrasment laws are unfair because men or disproportionately represented relative to women in such trials. Unless it becomes a safety issue, just ignore the idiot (yes I know, easier said than done). My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.

Looking up my old dropzone for interest sake and I stumbled upon this. Never in my life took part in a discussion forum before I came here. Saw some but thought no fucking way, these guys live to fight online. Even when you factor in Speakers Corner, the conversation here is much more civil than anything else I have looked at. OK I do not fully get all the processes but am I right in presuming from what you say that his decision will be appealed and then the supreme court will back him up? Whoaa easy. It sounds like you are suggesting that big government should stay out of telling people how to rasie their own children. That sort of independant thinking violates the modern collective norms and could result in you being sent to a re-education facility. The government always knows what is best for you. Riiiight. How uniquely right wing. It's not like anyone on this forum lumps all conservatives together and bashes them collectively. My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.

I'm gonna sue your ass for putting the idea in my head when I become a fat bastard (er..fatter bastard). My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.

Why do I not doubt that? Sad but true. My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.

http://edition.cnn.com/2007/LAW/05/02/kfc.suit.ap/index.html A judge had the audacity to suggest that...(brace yourselves)...people are responsible for their own health and should not expect to have health risks spelled out for them in a pop up book when they go to a fast food joint. He said that people should be smart enough to realise that fast food is unhealthy and cannot sue if (god forbid) eating it regularly has negative side effects on their health. Good lord! Expecting people to take responsibility for their own actions? What is this world coming to? Treating adults like they are....adults? It looks like the party is over for all those who hold society responsible for thier own choices, and then tie up the courts expecting some industry or establishment to compensate them for their own stupidity. A scary new world. My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.

I like De La Hoya but he is not the same fighter he used to be. Also he is not current, and once you start commiting time to endeavors other than boxing while keeping one foot in the ring you are courting disaster. Oscar has guts and will put on a good show but ultimately I suspect Mayweather will probably be too much for him. Choice should be hers, not some lawmakers. Funny though, I have observed that some of these old people have more balls than many young people when it comes to dealing with thugs. Amazingly, very few people recognize the obvious logic in what you have pointed out. I am staggered by people who will whine endlessly about theiving corporate executives and corrupt politicians, yet all their computer software is pirated, as are half their DVD's and CD's. Up here in the Canada. Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) Stores is one example, most other provinces have the equivalent with the exception of Quebec and Alberta My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.

Gosh I just can't bash that. I'm just a mere professional student only without the lucrative career waiting for me Gracias My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.
