  1. Yes, I meant that. JC did not teach his followers to take up a literal physical war He spoke of division, but never challenged any followers to take up battle. In fact he said the opposite to Pilate: Matthew 18:36 Jesus said, "My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jews. But now my kingdom is from another place." steveOrino
  2. While I favor people in the USA speaking English, I'm not sure what making it the official language would accomplish. steveOrino
  3. I'm interested in your reply about the passage where JC tells his followers to not go to the gentiles. Can you see how that is not an accurate representation of his teaching? It mere a timing aspect. JC took the diciples to the gentiles many times. steveOrino
  4. But you did take it out of context. As I said, that passage was a reminder that you will be either with him or against him ... no middle ground. When you read the whole of JC teaching it is obvious even to the casual reader that JC did not come to bring war, he came to bring personal peace brought on by a relationship with God and a better relationship with other people. Taking that text and showing it as proof that JC is not the prince of peace is the very definition of "taking a text out of context". The context was the whole of JC's teaching. steveOrino
  5. A great example of taking text out of context. What we have here is timing. Jesus instructed his disciples to not go into the gentile land to teach ... just yet. But to first go to the twelve tribes of Israel. JC himself led the disciples over to the gentile land (the decapolis) after he saved a demon possessed man. This man wanted to follow Christ, but JC made him go home and witness to his family and community first. The next time JC came he was welcomed. He fed the multitude for the second time. The first time he fed the multitude it was in Israel. he had 12 baskets left over - symbolic for all the tribes of Israel. When he fed to multitude the second time it was near the decapolis (ten cities) of Gentiles. Because the man formerly demon possessed had told about him there was a multitude waiting to be taught. (The first time they ran him off) JC taught them, fed them and had 7 baskets left over -- one for every cannanite tribe that lived there. it is all about context when properly interpreting scripture. steveOrino
  6. You or any other can always take texts out of context and make a case contrary to what JC teaches us through the whole of scripture. The division or lack of peace he says he will bring is because family will divide itself over him -- they will be either for Christ or anti-Christ. He understands he is catalyst for this division. However, for those who chose him, he offers a peace that passes all understanding. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27 steveOrino
  7. First off, I'm not an unbeliever. I'm a Christian and a pastor. I have a MA in theology. I simply believe the biblical writer writes to his generation. Yes, the truths apply to all generations, but it is wrong when you take false teachings and misconstrue the teachings of Christ with them. No matter how many books LaHaye may sell with the lies. The truth Revelation brings to the Christians of the first century Christians and Christians of any geneartion, including today is: God is victorious over evil, Christ is ALREADY the victor (his victory was won on the cross, not a small valley in Meggido), and we will live with him in heaven for eternity. I find that quite comforting without believing Christ will general some army in a a pseudo nuclear war. steveOrino
  8. Go to search posts and type in best camera. Lots of advice tow wade through. You'll mostly read people prefer SONY. steveOrino
  9. I didn't say he wasn't coming back. I said revelation was about 1st century Christians steveOrino
  10. You see it that way because you do not understand apocalyptic writing. The biblical writer writes to his generation. John was writing to encourage those early Christians who were being tortured and punished by Rome. He encouraged them to take heart that God has overcome the evil of this world through Christ's death and resurrection. He used images of war and battles to convey evil (in this case, Roman oppression) was defeated by Christ (as JC said, "It is finished" as Paul Said, "Grave/death where is your sting?") Apocalypic writing often uses images of war. In a sense there was war, but it was not fought by convential forces. To the Christian victory is brought by remaining true to Christ's teachings. (Fighting a literal battle to "defeat" evil is not in Christ's teaching. This view of Revelation stood for almost two thousand centuries. Near the end of the 1800s a the premillennial view, although new, became more popular. With the advent of revivals and then televangelist the latter view caught on like wildfire. My sorrow is it is not only a misinterpretation of scripture, but it contradicts the teachings of JC. A good book to read would be "A Common Sense Approach to Revelation" by Dr. M. Strong (Warner Press) steveOrino

  12. The Antichrist will then gather his armies, along with all the armies of the world for the "final solution", to take control of Jerusalem by force, and wipe out the Jews once and for all (Joel 3:2). As the seven year period comes to a close, the Lord Jesus Christ will return with the armies of heaven, to defeat the Antichrist and his armies and save Jerusalem, and set up His kingdom on earth (Revelation 19). Christ, the prince of peace, leading an actual war. What about his message of peace? What about Paul's admonishment that we do not fight against flesh and blood?? Can good overcome evil by force? Hardly. If THAT is the Christ of the NT, I want no part of him. Thank God it is not. ____ Only God knows his own battle plan ... we can just guess and imagine and we won't be close You fundies slay me. you take apocolyptic literature and parables as literal, and ignore emiprical statements made by Christ that are meant to be literal such as Matthew 26:52, But Jesus said to him, “Put your sword in its place, for all who take the sword will perish by the sword." steveOrino
  13. I switched from IAD to AFF because I wasn't "getting" it either. I'm too kinestetic. I needed the immdeiate feedback of AFF to learn to skydive. different strokes for different folks steveOrino
  14. excited that all the "unbelievers' will be put in hell? Where is the sorrow as Jesus wept for unrepentent Jerusalem. I just don't get some "christians". The events alone of the past fifty years should speak volumes to anyone who knows anything about the Bible. Within the past fifty years, we have seen a lot of prophecies (God's promises) fulfilled. To name a few... The rise of the European Union - the world's last great empire (Daniel 7:7, Revelation 13) Who says it is the LAST, and as far as I can tell USA still is a greater empire. Personal identification chips - now used widely (Revelation 13:16-18) yeah, they use them in Soth America, Central America, Africa, China, geesh. Do all of you fundies think every place is like USA? Instantaneous worldwide communication (Revelation 11:9-10) see above - my fellow pastor Sherman Lion is not getting CNN in the rain forest of CR. Jerusalem - a source of worldwide contention (Zechariah 12:2-3) Yeah, that's big news -- been that way ... forever. The Jewish Temple ready for rebuilding, and sacrifices resuming (Daniel 9:27) I think the Muslims who control the holy mount will have something to say about that. A decline in the moral behavior of society (2 Timothy 3:1-5) again, not news -- been declining ... forever. Terrible catastrophes and natural devastation increasing (Luke 21:25-26) weather is cyclical, yes, it may be greater this decade, but who really knows about weather 1000 years ago? But before that, the Lord Jesus spoke of a time of great trouble that would come upon the earth (Mat 24:21, "For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be"). Many theologians believe Matt 25 refers to the mini apocolypse (the destruction of Jerusalem and the dispertion of the Jews. Halfway through the seven year period, the Antichrist ths term is always plural when used in the NT. You have to marry that term "antichrist" with "the man of lawlessness" to get a singular "antichrist" Jesus said you are either "with me" or "against me" in other words you are either a christian or an antichrist. Either hot or cold. (the head of the EU) will turn his back on the agreement and stop the sacrifices (Daniel 11:30) . He will sit in the Jewish Temple, and proclaim himself to be God (2 Thessalonians 2:3-4), and cause as many as would not worship him to be killed (Revelation 13:15). He will deceive the whole world, as Satan will enable him to do great "lying wonders", such as call fire down from heaven (Revelation 13:13-14). You've read too many Tim Lahayes' book. I'm sure his accountant appreciates that. So as you can see, if what the Bible was one hundred percent accurate about what we see happening around us now, we really need to do something now in order to prepare for what the Bible says is still to occur. buy more Lahayes' books? John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. according to you - the 'world" that Jesus loves doesn't include those who fight against him in your "final battle" steveOrino
  15. While I defer to your experience and numbers I think you are over simplfying both statements; mine and yours. I never said relax is a fix all. Notice I said listen to your instructors. However, I do jump video with highly experience instructors (Greg Gerondale, Brad Smith, Eric Hadley, Mel Tilley -- all are either record holders or medalists and they are outstanding instructors) who know how to teach. They do on a regular basis, attempt to get the student to relax. Maybe you can't, but they seem to be able to do it. Your statement to "fly wide" can easily be misunderstood in an internet forum by a newbie. If only to "first do no harm", I stand by my statement over yours any day.
  16. Bingo! I'm a newbie, but I didn't let students help me flare. Typically, I don't need the help. I let this one guy help me flare this weekend. He started flaring at about 50 feet and with his adrenyline I was barely able to gt his arms back up. We slid in uneventful, but it made me resolve to go back to my old ways of taking full control at 1K steveOrino
  17. I was in a class at SNU working on my Masters. Someone came in and told us a plane hit the WTC. It was 9:00 our time -- about an hour after the fact. We went to watch it all on a TV in another classroom. We got their in time to see the second tower fall on live TV. It was all surreal. Not much accomplished that day -- the professor sent everyone home. steveOrino
  18. I can't help but think it may have been a better game if not for Texas' fumble in the red zone, but I think OSU would have still won, as they are clearly a better team. I suffered the loser tri-fecta. My HS, Union, (where I work) lost to arch cross town rivals, Jenks. My favorite college team lost, Texas whomped on by OSU, and finally, the Pokes got beat by the jags. Sigh, the only way is up! steveOrino
  19. Gnarles Barkley -- crazy (I put it at the end of most of my tandem/aff videos with still shots.) steveOrino

  21. relax ... and follow your MFF instructor's advice. steveOrino
  22. A most reasonable belief, since the most cursory examination shows that wine is NOT blood and bread is NOT meat. This thread was turning into an abortion debate, so I will attempt to bring it back ... Catholics believe that during Communion, during the Mass, a miracle takes place and the bread is actually changed into Jesus’ flesh and that the wine is actually changed into His blood (that is called Transubstantiation). That’s one end of the spectrum. At the other end of the spectrum are the Baptists — Baptists believe that the bread stays bread, but the wine is miraculously changed into grape juice. steveOrino
  23. Yeah, at 51 (closer to 52) I shouldn't care, but I don't want to be like some of my friends who walk around in tight shorts, knee socks and velcro shoes. I'm certainly not a trend setter, but I don't want to be "old man" either. I guess my question stems from the fact my wife thinks I look Amish with just chin whiskers. steveOrino
  24. Here is what I look like w/ or w/o whiskers. The chin whiskers only can be seen in my avatar. The othres are attached. WARNING: I told you the mustache only looks gay! steveOrino
  25. http://www.nightstalkers.com/mythology/coin.html http://www.sfalx.com/h_coin_rules_and_history.htm Funniest story I ever heard about being coin checked was when an SF dude was showering. Suddenly he heard clink, clink. A coin rolled into his stall. Some dude thought he had him. However, said SF dude had a coin duct taped to the bottom of his foot. WARNING: Never coin check me. My original is home in a case, but I have dozens in every jump suit, Harley saddlebag, ash tray in pick up, locker, All within a step of me at all times. You coin check me, and you'll be buying.
