  1. So, you can make up anything? No, it is a proposal. I don't have to actually test anyone -- so if I were to use MRI imaging after a skydive I wouldn't have to fund that. I won't "make up" the results. I just may not do the results unless I can keep it more on the psychology, personality trait theme. I have access to those tests and I will probably complete them even if I never write the whole paper. Although knowing me, I'd probably write it regardless if it was needed for a grade or not.. steveOrino
  2. Very good ideas, Karen, thanks! I was free associating other ideas such as: 1. Does the presence of a particular character trait predict who will complete skydiving training from 1st jump course to A license? 2. Do skydivers have more self esteem than the average population? steveOrino
  3. Well, because it is merely a proposal right now anything goes. (in other words I don't have to actuall do it, just write the proposal -- unless I go for the MSPC instead of the MAFT) But I'd prefer to keep it in field of pyschology such as personality, anxiety, etc. Here are the skills objectives for the course. Upon completion of this course, you should be able to: 1) formulate a research hypothesis, based on a given set of background information. 2) define the independent (predictor) and dependent (criterion) variables which derive from a research question. 3) develop appropriate operational definition(s) for the variables of interest. 4) utilize appropriate data collection methods to measure defined variables. 5) develop an optimal research design to study a designated research question. 6) formulate an appropriate statistical hypothesis, based on a designated research question. 7) utilize an appropriate statistical method to analyze data collected, from a designated research design. 8) appropriately and accurately interpret analyzed data, especially with regard to the original research question. 9) orally communicate the essential findings of a research study. 10) accurately communicate in written form (using appropriate APA style), the research question addressed, the literature reviewed (and its relevant findings), the methods and procedures to be used in the study, the results and conclusions of one's research study. steveOrino
  4. Actually I'd like to relate it to risk behaviors steveOrino
  5. No real guidelines to speak of, but it needs to somewhat fit into the "pysche" area of skydiving. For instance, "Do no skydivers drink more beer than the average person?" would not be a good research project. (we all know they do) Again something like: Why do they jump from planes? With the hypothesis they are lacking something others normally have or either they have something others don't. Of course, it needs to sound a lot more academic than that. Although I'm somewhat new to pyschology, I'm do well with the therapy type courses, but this research course is kicking my butt! steveOrino
  6. Soon I will need participants in a research on skydiving for my research methods class for my Masters degree in counseling. But right now I need to refine the research topic/question. ATTENTION ALL YOU ACADEMIC TYPES! Please give me some ideas on the research topic. I was thinking along the line of "do skydivers jump because they lack something that makes them feel more normal and the adreniline rush of skydiving gives it to them", or "do skydivers jump because they have something chemically/biologically that others do not have?" This would be related to those regularly skydive, not those who have made a jump or two. Any ideas for the research topic would be deeply appreciated. Please be serious. I'm on a time crunch.
  7. Has AV gas gone down that much? Not here. At least not at the same rate as auto gas. BTW. Your poll is lacking. Few DZOs are out there making a killing. Small businesses can be a drain on your pocketbook. Try funding smething like a DZ that has high cost maintenace like an airplane, gear purchase and upkeep, business that is seasonal to some extent, but at least depends on good weather, all that plus DZ politics. Puhleease. DZO, Lloyd, I'm glad you're doing it, becauseI never would! steveOrino
  8. Bumping this thread as today (Sept 20) would have been my Dad's 82nd birthday. He died of heart failure in 1985 at the age of 60. My dad was great! Not perfect but close. Perhaps because he died so long ago I have an idealized memory of him, but that is okay with me. He provided the necessities for me and my two older brothers on a very average salary. Because he was a builder we always had nice homes. Not many vacations, but we did fine (at least that was the impression I had as a child) He loved sports and thankfully so did his boys. Mainly football/track. He NEVER missed a game. I can't make that claim, but he was smarter and spaced us out, 3 boys over 9 years. I had 4 kids in 6 years. Sometimes I simply couldn't be at two places at the same time. He taught me the value of his word, other people and love for God and community. In my opinion, I'll never be as good a dad as he was, but I know my kids love me. As they grow older (27, 24, 23 & 21 years old now) they think I've gotten a lot smarter. At times I feel guilty that I had a good dad when so many kids don't. I leave them with this message. You basically have two chances for a good parent/child relationship. If your dad screwed it all up, don't blame him. learn from his mistakes and make your relationship with your children a good one. For instance, as great as I think my dad was he was raised by a generation that did not show a lot of outward affection to sons. I always knew dad loved me, even though he seldom hugged or kissed me and frankly, I don't remember a lot of "I love yous". Well, my kids still get hugs & kisses and I end every phone conversation with "I love you". steveOrino
  9. Our chief classroom instructor is type I. Darn good skydiver and AFFI. Freaks a few students out when he checks his blood then shoots up. I wish he'd do that more on the down low. Eric "Spanky" Hadley is his name. Contact him at Skydive Airtight in Skiatook, OK 918.396.PULL steveOrino
  10. Funniest thing I've read in a long time! I hope HJ has a good sense of humor ... if he really exists. steveOrino
  11. I guess I meant gas prices never stopped me from buying or driving SUVs. steveOrino
  12. Gas didn't drop 90 cents last fall. I find this very interesting especially in light of the break down of the AK pipeline. I suspect Big Oil knows this is an election year and a bunch of democrats winning republican seats in congress in a few weeks would not do them any good. Therefore, they are reducing the price to put a favorable spin on the economy in hopes to keep republican seats and majority I say this as a Republican (actually, I'm more a libertarian than anything, but I don't vote on those who can't get elected.) steveOrino
  13. It would be like stating that any historian who wrote about Lincoln that did not agree 100% with other historians is lying, or as Hairy would say ... Lincoln didn't exist! steveOrino
  14. I for one want them as low as they can get. Why, I'm cheap! Gas prices have little if any effect on USA's attraction for SUVs. I do have one question ... why? If the AK trans pipeline is down - war in the middle east - why aren't prices soaring. Before if anyone in the ME farted, gas prices went up. Why not now? I have my ideas but I'd like to hear others input (sorry if I'm hijacking this thread) Yay, cheap gas! steveOrino
  15. Years ago I was told that but I could never get nylon screws to hold a ring site very steady. Any tips on how to do that? steveOrino
  16. If five students told me the same story verbatim about an incident at school I'd suspect collaboration on a lie. steveOrino
  17. Let's face it. Some posters say the same old thing over and over. They do not add to the discussion, they merely post their BS with a plethora of attachments. How about an option that allows us to ignore posts from selected DZ.commers. It would make it easier to wade through the BS by some posters in the SC forum when it comes to religion. steveOrino
  18. If I spent 2 minutes trying to prove God to you, I'd be wasting my time and yours. It is not up to me to prove anything about God. He does NOT need me to prove anything about Him. BTW - I'm not sure which of your plethora of attachments you are referring to. Many do not work. Improper coding (you can't have spaces when you type an html attachment) For instance: http://www.god is imaginary.com steveOrino
  19. Ooooo -- trembling in my boots, uh tevas. LOL! As I have said before, you may bore me with your websites, but some of your posts are down right hilarious. EDITED to ADD: You may know a lot more than I do. I have never said I know more than anyone here in these forums. And I especially never mentioned I knew more because I had a MA in Theology. In fact, if I learned nothing else in that MA course it is this. The more I learn about God, the more I realize how littlle I know. steveOrino
  20. Well, you stooped to a new low. Posting your plethora of redundant websites is not offensive, just boring. Now you post your statement of poor exegesis of JC's parable with a statement of mine that Christ did all he could so we might live in peace with God and man, and make it look like I validate your typical fundie BS. I guess when you cannot add anything intelligent to a debate you misquote, mislead and deluge them with websites. You have made yourself a 'nonplayer' in a reasonable discussion on religion. No real loss though. steveOrino
  21. I believe that the Bible speaks of separating the wheat from the chaff, and the goats from the sheep. This is definitely a point in time, and it won't be pleasant if and when it happens. If you believe in the resurrection, you also have to believe in the second coming of Christ, and all of this is going to happen at some future date. We are warned to be prepared. Yes, I believe in the resurrection and the second coming. i don't believe in a literal earthly kingdom, nor do I believe christ comes as a warrior. He has already accomplished everything he needs to do. the rest is up to us. Really? You should have told JC that before he preached the sermon on the mount. He could have worked on that that bit that said "blessed are the peacmakers, for they will be called the sons of God." steveOrino
  22. In my opinion, for this reason: Yeah, but ... My point is we actually have an "official language. It is English. It is on most everything. Now occaisionally we have other languages listed as an option with it, (we have three languages lsiting a WARNING or DANGER label on our tandem harness, but English is dominant) IMHO -- it is the "unofficial" official language, and I don't see how creating another law that can't be reasonably enforced will help. steveOrino
  23. Interesting interpretation. How did you come up with that? Please don't simply attach me a link. steveOrino
  24. Of course, in Christian theology, Jesus is God, so that passage would be true Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father John 14:9 I agree with you Hairy And as JC said, the prostitutes and tax collectors are seeing it, and arriving ahead of the religous people. steveOrino
