I may not be all that old, but I grew up watching Winnie the Pooh. So did all my siblings. To change it, for what ever reason they have, is just wrong in my oppinion. The story is a classic and one a large majority of people can relate to. They already made the "Cookie Monster" stop eating cookies because it was believed to bring obeisity to American youth. Whats next? What other classic can they just bend to what they feel is the "right message to send to our future generations"? The internet is truely turning into one of the most popular places to meet people. It also helps strengthen relationships. Take for instance one of my ex's. When we first met, we didnt really have any interest in each other, and first impressions really got in the way. One night we happened to find each other online and started talking. We ended up talking for four hours without even realizing the time slip by. It started a long string of nights where we would stay up late just talking to each other. We became best friends who knew the most about each other than any single person we were friends with. It eventually grew into a very loving relationship. We broke up because her parents forbid us from being together anymore after a couple un-fortunate incidents. But to this day, her and I from time to time find each other online and let time just fly as we talk. For me to be interested in someone, they have to be mentally, and emotionally strong as well as independent. I dont really care about looks all that much, but if she cant hold an at least slightly intellectual conversation with me without getting lost, then I cant be around her for too long. I have found very few women who can actually live up to my high expectations. But the internet definately makes it easier to meet people and know who they really are, without preconseved notions of who they seem to be based off their appearance. For me, its always about whats on the inside, rather than the out side... Being in the field of ARMY Aviation, I get to work with them quite often. They are an awesome aircraft, and in my book, the hardest working of all the rotary wing aircraft we have out here [Afghanistan and Iraq]. They are very reliable and have been known to take quite a few rounds of enemy fire and still make it back to base. With the dual rotors, they pack more power than any other rotary wing aircraft in the Army's arsenal. Getting to altitude is very easy for them. I have never jumped out of one, but I have a feeling they would be awesome to do so out of. If you ever get the chance to just take a ride in one, I highly recommend it. It is a ride you wont soon forget! What got me, was watching my Mom's video of her first tandem. At the time I was deathly afraid of roller coasters, but I knew I wanted to do it anyway. I eventually grew out of my roller coaster fear, and with it, it seems, almost all my other fears went with it. I am now they guy will try anything at least once. For my 17th birthday, my parents got me a session at SkyVenture Orlando. I loved it. I sucked at it, and was on the bottom netting most of the time, but I loved it anyway. With my passion for the sport only building as I got older, my parents got me my first tandem for my 18th birthday. I have been hooked ever since. Call it newb enthusiasm or what have you. But I aspire to join the ARMY Golden Knights. I have a long way to go to even get to a level that I could even possibly be viewed as a possible candidate, but I don't care. The harder the work to get me there, the more sweet the acceptance will actually be. Sad thing is, I have heard of a lot worse. I don't even think that could get an honorable mention compared to what all has happened in the past year... H*ll, today I got word adults were out driving, decided to take a short cut... thru a known mine field. Needless to say, it wasn't pretty. Never underestimate the ingenuity of a mass of idiots! My first tandem, all the way out the door; and my first AFF jump, until I got in the aircraft. My instructors were able to focus my attention for the AFF by reviewing hand signals thou. I know the feeling. It is awesome while it lasts, so soak it all up while you can! And good luck with whatever it is that may be brewing in your future. I hope it turns out how you plan it to! Now I am going to say this up front. I have less experiance in the air than you do. But I have been scouring these forums for a couple of months with the exact same out look as you currently have. I also fell in love with this sport after my first time out of the aircraft. I also got the shirts, necklaces, etc. etc. And similar to you I was REALLY anxious to get a rig of my own ASAP. I guess it was kind of like further solidfying my position in this sport and letting people know I was for real. I read a thread where someone [I dont remember who] mentioned you should hold off on your first rig for at least your first 50 jumps. For one, your possibily of downsizing is high. I know you said you have no ambitions of swooping or going fast, but I have no doubt that after a bit of time in the sport, you will be looking at something next to try. Holding off til the 50th jump will allow you to determine if you are truely satisfied with that size, or if you want to go lower. Secondly, it allowes you to know more about what you are looking for. Understand the gear better, and get a better understanding of what works for you. Everyone is different, and likes different setups. Before you buy, demo some chutes. See what else is on the market before you jump right into the first cool one you see. I say this because it is similar to how I am, not to say you would be the same way. While you are getting those jump numbers up, keep talking to your instructors. Ultimatly they know you and your technique and skills better than anyone. With how often I move around I have a laptop. Thou the batteries dont work for more than 2 hours [cycle them to keep them fresh] I mainly use it at home so the a/c adapter works just fine. And upgades can get annoying. But usually around the time that I really need to update, I usually need a whole new laptop anyway. As for hard drives, you can always add memory, and if worse comes to worse, you can get an external hard drive which work well. Everyone I work with has a laptop and the majority have externals. You can get them in at least 300 gigs. That is more than enough to handle almost anyones stuff, if not, get a second one! But for ultimate portablitly, Laptops work great. If you arnt going to move it for a while, take the desktop. They can pump out a lot more for cheaper. Does anyone know the requirements to become an ARMY Golden Knight? I realize I am a long way off from even coming close to making the team. But I have 2 years left before my ETS, and I plan on getting out unless I can make the team. I am going to jump my ass off these two years, and I hope to have some sort of standard to work towards, if not exceed. Also, does anyone know where I go to apply. I have tried their website, but it doesnt seem to be any help. Maybe I am just not looking in the right place or something. Any help you can offer would be a huge help! Thanks! I listen to everything. Some genres for the lyrics, and some just for the beat. But basically, no matter what you play, I dont mind. I would like to listen to music on the way up. But with my jump numbers so INCREDIBLY low , I dont think it is a smart idea to start yet. For me, music just enhances what is going on. Play a really good song, and Ill be pumped up to do just about anything! With being deployed... its mostly an "On your own" day. We had a dinner with the sections, but mostly it is just go to your room, and contact your loved ones back home.
