Well as for punishments, my parents gradually incresed it as we grew older. First was time out with out nose in the corner. Then came hand spankings. Paddle ball paddles and wooden spoon spankings, grounding, then taking away privilages. Towards the end of my time living home, my parents did all but forfeit. They realized that no matter what they did, we were all so stubburn in our ways that we would find ways around their methods... I think getting around my parents, is where my siblings and I demonstrated just how smart we truely are. LoL! As I grew up, I learned that my sisters we always out to get me in trouble. The time that it worked perfectly that sticks out most in my mind happened with I was really young, like 5 or 6. My mom use to get home around the same time everyday, and this one particular day was no execption. My older sister told me to run out in the road and check and see if she was coming yet. We had something we wanted to do that we had to wait on her to do, or something like that. Me being young and naive, I thought it was a good idea. So I go running out to the middle of the road, and lo and behold, my mom was about half a mile away. She spotted me immediatly, and promptly began punishing me before she even got the car door shut. I believe that was the day my sisters and I watched in horror as my Dad took his work station outside and made the first paddle that wasnt previously attached to a lil red bouncy ball... I have become pretty proficent at staying under the radar. It was quite the feat too. I managed snagging "Honor Grad" in AIT with my DI's still not knowing my face. I use to watch my DI pace back and forth in front of the formation 4 or 5 times trying to figure out who I was before finally calling out my name. I thought it was hilarious, but my friends who got picked out like crazy were pretty bitter. Its pretty easy, just dont get into trouble, and dont ask too many questions or offer information that would mark you. The un-written rule of ARMY training... dont volunteer for ANYTHING! Wow! You guys are indescribably awesome! I have definitely learned a lot, and will keep it all in mind. It seems to be the same basic principle. Give it your best on PT, pay close attention to the PLF, and [as well learned in Basic and AIT] out of sight, out of mind does apply. Thank you EVERYONE for all your help and great advice. Well, I put in for Ft Bragg, so getting a slot shouldnt be all that hard. And yeah, I am in the ARMY. I can run pretty well. My very first APFT I ran low 13's to the high 12's. Being at 5000' altitude and trying to run in the winter has diminished that capability, but I am sure I can pick it right back up. The main schools I have been to were Basic [Ft Benning - C/1-38 INF] and AIT [Ft Rucker - A/1-13 AVN]. Both of those were a cake walk. And I know I wont have a problem going out the door... From what it seems, it is going to be simple. But I dont want to underestimate it and be over my head... I recently found out that to further strive towards my ultimate goal, I need to go thru Airborne School. For those who have already gone through this schooling, is there any tips you can offer to help make the experiance as painless as possible? Basic isnt bad. It is actually fun if you can stand it. Yeah, you are going to be doing push ups from sun up to sun down. But you get so use to it that after the first 3 weeks and out of white phase, you can do them like its nothing. I loved basic. Well, my AIM s/n is NlghtShifter because I was always on night shift. Even with monthy rotations in the schedule, I always stayed on night shift. Of course when I tried to get that name it was taken so I sub'd a L in place of the I because they look enough alike. Then coming here, I changed it to NlghtJumper in theme with the nature of this site... I make around 1400 a month base pay. Then they add on all these little incentives to it, like COLA, and Hazardous Duty Pay, and BAS. I end up around 2000 a month. But I also have full medical and dental insurance, free housing, no utility bills, and 2.5 days of paid vacation every month. Not too shabby when you also factor in the incredible job security. All in all, the military is a very wise choice for an 18 year old right our of high school... Today, I am deployed to Afghanistan. Operation Enduring Freedom rotation 6. No jumping allowed out here, hence the low jump numbers, but as soon as I get back stateside I will be jumping every opportunity I get. And though I have only been in the ARMY for a year and a half, and this is my first deployment... I am glad to be here. It can get hard, but I never expected it to be easy. I knew this was the profession that I wanted to follow since I was in 10th grade. There is no place I would rather be, than between the great people of the United States of America, and the violence that tries its hardest to inflict fear, with no avail...
