  1. The Great One turned 50...how the hell did that happen so fast?
  2. I'll throw out some names not already mentioned. Pat Moorehead Handsome Dave DeWolf Bill Jones Ray Cottingham Great guys, great stories. He'll kick my ass if he finds out I posted this, but Myles Elsing is probably the baddest of the old dudes.(He's not THAT old.) He skydives, base jumps, and can fly anything that flies. Planes, Helicopters, you name it. And he's a hell of a good guy. No one tell, please.

  4. Coop just got his ticket. You have to have one to pack at Eloy.
  5. A cup of Tim Horton's coffee maybe...and a Tim Bit or two.
  6. Wow. And I thought I was so cool doing a sit fly off of Angel Falls years ago. Wow, just wow.
  7. I have learned that after almost 500,000 views and 21,000+ replies, that no one knows who DB Cooper was. Except for a couple of nutters.
  8. Skysurfing died because the boys couldn't beat a 5', 100lb dynamo named Tanya.
  9. No. Skydive America is a different company. I'm not sure what they are planning. I had heard it was beach jumps somewhere.
  10. There will be a formal announcement on the grand opening weekend coming soon. There are some i's to dot and t's to cross. PAC 750 is confirmed. C/D license holders only. Tandems No Sky Ride certs accepted. It has been an exhausting process. Without Randy O's assistance, I would have been burnt toast dealing with the city red tape. Thank you to those of you that wrote to the Mayor/Council, it helped. I'll keep you guys posted. It's very close...
  11. This bothers me just as much if not more than the westboro baptist fucks. Freedom of speech is not to be fucked with IMO. Freedom of Speech. The Westboro nut jobs can go on TV all they want and express themselves. That is "Freedom of Speech". To protest at this innocent little girl's funeral is not "Freedom of Speech". IMHO And I asked a long time why these military funerals were repeatedly being interupted. A national law should have been passed a long time ago. A funeral is nowhere to grandstand. The only people with freedom to speak at them should be friends and family.
  12. All of this GPS spotting makes me sad. I'm missing out on a lot of free beer we used to get from the DZ skygods spotting...and putting us out over town or the freeway.
  13. Hmmm, let me get his straight. Four great skydivers, one being an old as the hills T-Rex with more skydiving hardware than just about anyone on the planet, that has coached other world teams for years. (Sorry Kirkby, I couldn't resist) One guy that rocked with a world class team at Perris and two other guys that every team on the planet would kill for to have them on their own 4-way. So we add in a little DZ called Skydive Arizona to train at. Sprinkle in a pinch of "Kumbaya" togetherness. Bake at Arizona temps for a year and these guys will end up with so much bling around their necks that Mr. T will be jealous.
  14. Lots of fire chiefs and lawyers here on DZ.com, Who knew. Again: Meet with your local FD, Police and Ambulance folks. Sort all of these issues out ahead of time. Buy them some donuts and coffee. Give them some training. It works. By the way, I'm still waiting for the CalFire audio/visual training captain to finish my DZ EMS training DVD for everyone.
  15. One of the best things a drop zone can do is meet with the local fire department, police and ambulance folks. Hold a safety day at your drop zone for them. Discuss operations, communications, operating procedures in an emergency and skydiving related injuries. It will go a long way in preventing being charged for a rescue. This is a growing trend for many agencies, to charge. I spent 31 years on the fire department. We never charged a dime for technical rescues. We had a Cessna fly into high power lines on approach to the airport one time in 1986. The pilot and passenger were stuck in the plane, upside down, for hours. We had the power company, the airport crash rescue guys and half of our fire department's equipment there. If that happened today, we would charge them. It's a sad state of affairs for funding to run emergency agencies in this day and age. The way the cities look at something like a skydiver in a tree is that it's not a normal day to day activity. Crash a car, rescued for free. House burns, put out for free. Stuck mountain climbing, pay to be rescued. Years ago we had a chief that wouldn't let our paramedics respond to freeway calls, because he figured those people didn't pay city taxes. City attorneys are always looking into the loopholes to get money for the city operating expenses. Some cities charge a "sign up fee" to have free paramedic care at your home if needed. Some cities are charging crazy "permit" fees to raise funds. Some fire departments pay for "call outs" also. So if a rescue takes a long time with a lot of personnel, I can see why the chief wants to charge. I don't agree with that, but business is business.
  16. KARMA, blame it on Lyal and all of the Canuckians at Eloy that called to heckle me when Canada beat the US. KARMA! Eh! Oh No Canada!
