  1. No more Pens. No more Kings, So now I just have to cheer for the Sharks, Canucks and Caps to get punked!
  2. Cal Fire and Mercy Air would like this course conducted at Skydive Elsinore. I will let you guys know the dates when we get it scheduled.
  3. Not my DZ. They take off from Oceanside airport and land somewhere else. Tandems from 7500ft. My operation will be at the airport. i am dealing with the city, the FAA and USPA to make it happen soon.
  4. Sorry Dave. I was just talking with Ray Cottingham about your dad two weeks ago at SOS. He was a legend.
  5. Skybytch heckled me yesterday at the DZ, wearing her Sharks hat too. Ha ha. Take that girlfriend! Go Kings!!!
  6. Best: tie between U2/No Doubt @ the Staples Center and Springsteen @ the LA Coliseum. Worst: Dokken last year. He can't carry a tune in a wheelbarrow. Sad. Honorable mention: Rolling Stones/Stone Temple Pilots @ Toronto. And Bruno Brokken and Regan Tetlow @ Crazy Canucks beach bar, Belize!
  7. The NFPA has debated this in America for years, taking out public area extinguishers. I used to train citizens how to use them. It's pretty comical how awkward people were trying to use them. I have no faith in anyone using them correctly in a real emergency. In this cell phone age, calling 911 first is a better option. And putting water on a grease fire is a disaster. signed, 31 years on the FD,
  8. i think it all started with "COPS" and has gone downhill since.
  9. My beer league team could win a few games in that division the Canucks play in. Avs, Wild, Oilers, Flames=pitifull. Go Hawks. Maybe Turco will come in and be brilliant in goal and be the story of the playoffs.
  10. I should have done a series by series discussion. I didn't mention the Wings or Sabres. oops. I think the Red Wings aren't consistent enough this season. Their goalie Howard is OK, but how will he do in the playoffs? As you know, I would LOVE to see a Wings/Pens final! I just don't think they have enough this year, although Billy Jaffey on NHL Network is pegging them to win the Cup. Poor Ryan Miller. he joins a long line of great goalies that play on mediocre teams and will never win a Cup. All I know is it's playoff time starting Wednesday, don't call my house!!!!
  11. geez, I am retarded. I was looking at a week old matchup "prelude" this morning. Sharks will have to pound it out with the Kings. The Kings have no goal scoring. The Sharks will limp into rd. 2. Sharks in 5. I think the Hawks could knock off the Canucks, but it will come down to goaltending. And the Hawks rely on their "D" way too much for scoring. I'm just not so sure the Canucks are as good as they look on paper. I know winning the President's Cup is usually the kiss of death for taking home Lord Stanley's Cup also.
  12. Habs/Bruins is the best first round match up by far. Bad blood, long rival history and, well, more bad blood! I think the Canucks are a bit over rated. Look at who they play in their division. My beer league team could win a few of those games. The Kings have no offense now, so they will have to batter the Canucks with hits. They will soften them up, but lose in 5. The Canucks will limp into round 2. San Jose looks good, but the hottest team in the NHL is the Mighty Quackers. The Preds might do some damage also, they have a good goalie and balanced line up. The East is pretty open. The Caps are playing well, but I think they are the Sharks of the East, sorry SkyBytch. The Pens are my team, as you all know, but need Sid back soon to do some damage. Tampa has some great players. The Rangers suck, truly. If it wasn't for goaltending, they would be golfing also. Boston is formidable and should crush Montreal. But we all know how that can go. Halak isn't there to lead the Habs to glory this year. The Flyers face that age old problem of theirs, stopping the puck. They have a nice team, but... So what do you guys think? I'm still going with a Pens/Canucks final
  13. At least Obama knows the Prime Minister of Canada's name. That's a step in the right direction. Remember when CBC's Rick Mercer called the PM "Jean Poutine", not Cretien, and GWB went right along with it. Now that was classic. Not as good as the fake Sarkozy calling Palin. You Canuckians are good.
  14. I finally have the final cut of the training DVD. Let me know if you would like a copy. Include your address and I will get them out soon. Cal Fire is making 20 of them. They'll be ready next week.
  15. 1992, 25th year of the boogie. It was epic. There are pictures. I'll fill you in on the entire story at Byranada over a beer.
  16. Toronto is like Montreal and believe it or not, the LA Kings. They sell a lot of tickets with marginal teams. Sorta like being a "rich broads tax write off"! So why spend the $$$$??? It's funny that the two guys that had the great one were shysters, Pocklington and McNall, and when they sold out, or went to jail, the teams went downhill.
  17. FMD is a bad idea at any DZ. It creates sitting in brakes by half of the load, fixated on who is going to set the pattern. The pattern then gets set by a swooper that doesn't do a visible downind, base, final. Half of the load sets up one way and then the landing direction suddenly gets changed. Now there are low turns and cross traffic trying to get in the pattern. I saw this result in a badly injured jumper last summer, following the FMD. The default landing direction for light and variable is to the North at Perris. Most of the time FMD forgets that. And now add in the North landing area. If the first group gets out south of the DZ, but jumpers want to go to the North, they cross traffic with the later groups going to the main LZ on the grass. Another thing about FMD. We load the plane according to exit order for freefall collision avoidance. So let's say there is a 10 way of RW jumpers and then three small 3 way freefly groups. Usually the freeflyers are on smaller canopies, thus they have to navigate traffic to land. Is it time we load the plane according to wingloading factors and give more time between groups? Do we load the plane according to the spot for what group wants to land in which area? We have to let the naturual speed of the canopies sort themselves out so faster parachutes aren't overtaking slower ones in the lz. Are really busy three plane days an appropriate time for less experienced jumpers to be in? Most of us have been at a busy DZ where there is one load after another being dropped. I have had a second load of jumpers beat me to the ground, and I'm on a Katana 120. So which FMD do they follow? My plane's FMD or theirs? This is more than a training issue. We have to take a serious look at how we run the entire operation to mitigate the hazards and make things as safe as possible. Rich Grimm (LONG time Perris jumper)
  18. I have known Pat for over 20 years. Skydiving lost an icon, but fatherhood lost a hall of famer. I'll miss our football arguments a lot. Who will I talk hockey with at the DZ now? I'll miss jumping with you. You still owe me a beer, remember that bet, Steelers would make the Super Bowl? The Cowboys are still lame. Fly free my friend...
  19. Bigger airplanes=more canopies. Wind tunnels=false sense of security under canopy. Higher wingloading is cool=rapid downsizing. First man down=lots of confusion. Full face helmets =not hearing well, seeing well or yelling well. More than 90's=high speed, low vision, little outs. Some people have 1,000 jumps, some people have one jump 1,000 times. Old school landing techniques vs. new school. Dirt diving the skydive, never dirt diving the canopy flight. Fighter jets, cargo planes and 182's all landing at the same "airport". And the "Human element" that can never be removed. Ever pull out in traffic and almost hit, or be hit by accident? Ever change lanes and not see that car in your rear view mirror? It all adds up.
  20. Bring rollerblades. They melt the ice in the summer.
  21. Opening the LP lounge should be priority #1 Wayndo. But you already know that.
  22. You always have to read the small print on travel insurance. Many of them only cover you to the nearest help. So if you got injured in Puerto Rico, they might just keep you in a hospital there. Most of the companies have a panel of doctors that review your case and approve where you get flown to. The DAN insurance would only get you from Belize to Merida, Mexico for serious injuries. Many people thought that DAN would fly you back to the states. If you have a travel plan or are looking into one, call them and ask a LOT of questions. Thanks for the Priceline.com tip, I was unaware that was available.
