dragon2 replied to dragon2's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I don't wanna see any more tapes for a few days, but here it is, complete with attempts at scuba swooping, gate swooping, judge swooping and tandem swooping: http://www.12000ft.com/video/23.html ciel bleu, Saskia -
SL-ers: How were your first exits?
dragon2 replied to Thijs's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Dunno, can't remember my first 3 exits! I was inside the plane and then I was underneath a manta so I must've jumped right My exits were always stable, just not really "positive". For my 300th jump I did another SL for fun and it was the best I ever did ciel bleu, Saskia -
True, I do also, but my canopy at 1:1.15 is smaller than most guy's canopy would be at the same WL. My 1:1.15 WL isn't very high for 730 jumps, but a 135 isn't that big, and I wear lead a lot. As do most light people. And I also do birdman a lot. But I guess most women can indeed live with a lower WL than most guys can ciel bleu, Saskia

Have you seen this? Pro-track fault or feature?
dragon2 replied to phoenixlpr's topic in Gear and Rigging
A pro-track only saves the detailed data from the last 10 jumps. then it's memory is full. Therefore if you want to download everything into jumptrack you need to download at least after every tenth jump. ciel bleu, Saskia -
I only have one balloon jump, with my S3 & with camera. I just sat on the basket and just let myself drop off, keeping head-high. Armwings open, legwing closed. Unfortunately for the rest of the passengers I went stable . Made for a very boring video Another first-timer (no wingsuit) got told: exit on your back, that way you get to see the balloon. Uhuh, balloon/ground/balloon/ground/balloon/ground ciel bleu, Saskia
-
I don't like it because I just don't have the money for it and they don't allow wingsuits in there either Nah, never been but would love to. Just need to win the lottery first ciel bleu, Saskia

Wouldn't work: when someone wants to send you a pm they could just temporarily unblock theirs.... You'd need a time limit on blocking again then too. ciel bleu, Saskia

Never deployed like that myself so take this with a grain of salt: I'm thinking the deployment speed is higher, therefore you will get harder openings. Because you're vertical the deploying main may catch on your reserve container. Why not flip back to your belly and slow down a little bit too? Sounds much safer to me. ciel bleu, Saskia

A lot of newbies fly like that actually, it's been only 3 jumps. So what if his body position isn't perfect? That doesn't create a hazard. He just gets less freefall time. IMO, exit, pattern and deployment are more important. He'd be allowed to jump at our DZ. Then again we do have the 200 jumps and be very current rule here, as opposed to the UK. ciel bleu, Saskia

So where's the video?! ciel bleu, Saskia
-
Depends on where you live as well. Here (Netherlands) you are required to wear a one-piece jumpsuit untill your A, because it is safer. A shirt or sweater can come up in freefall and cover your handles. Also a nice old jumpsuit can handle your first couple landings much better than your regular clothes Other than that, you need different jumpsuits for different disciplines. But for a solo jump esp a hopnpop i don't mind jumping in my streetclothes. I just make sure they can't cause me any problems. There's a thread on here somewhere about trouser pocket inside fabric causing a hardpull, for instance. ciel bleu, Saskia

Wmv is windows' own format. You need some real software if you want to make dvd's... Wmv is compressed too much (ie low quality) to use on a dvd anyway. What you CAN do with the software you have is make a vcd (video cd) or better an svcd (super video cd), a full version of Nero will let you import wmv's into that. The quality is lower of course but these cd's play in most dvd players. For short movies I use this format sometimes because it's cheaper to give away cd's than dvd's If you put high quality avi movies on an svcd most people won't even see the difference. This format is also useful to burn movieclips on from the 'net. ciel bleu, Saskia

Tripple risers - pros and cons
dragon2 replied to bseriesboosted's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control

Uhuh. Last year when I was taking photo's of landings, people were coming in left and right when they were SUPPOSED to come in with a right hand pattern for the strip I was standing on. Yeah right ciel bleu, Saskia

When you were (or are) a student......
dragon2 replied to Mike111's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Spotting. Sticking my nose out of the door inside the plane, I was cool. Outside, also. But halfway?!?! Yikes...... Think 2 hands gripping on the bars, sticking head out 3 inches very quickly, yeah i see the DZ LET'S GO! ciel bleu, Saskia -
Tripple risers - pros and cons
dragon2 replied to bseriesboosted's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I've got them because I like them. Pro: let the canopy spread out a little more, and I just love the feel of them. Cons: adding an extra step to packing, if you let go of your toggles for some reason (CREW) you can't grab them back blindly, you have to collapse and bring down you slider before you unstow your toggles, and mostly, for swoopers that get on back risers they are out of fashion because you might grab the triple bit instead ciel bleu, Saskia -
Our team just got an invite (rookie class), but I for one can't go; I'm the video judge for our biggest swoop comp that's the same weekend So if my team goes they'll have to use another camera flyer ciel bleu, Saskia

Huh? I don't see what you mean? Or are you looking at the sub total? In round 2 all the scores are either below 4 seconds or 10 secs for a vertical/miss. ciel bleu, Saskia

Video from the World Games???
dragon2 replied to cheneyneel's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The swoopvideo I made is here: http://www.12000ft.com/video/20.html ciel bleu, Saskia -
First you need to import video using firewire, not usb, composite or svideo. After that, keep the footage as avi while your editing it. Your end product after editing should either be avi or a good quality dvd mpg2. When you put the final product on dvd, there are different quality/compression methods you can chose, if you didn't already output a dvd mpeg2 from your editing program. You should be able to put ~1 hr of footage on a DVD, not more, when using highest quality. DVD is always going to be slightly less quality than DV though. I don't use your programs so I don't know the specifics... ciel bleu, Saskia

I already have to be in 2 places at once that weekend: ESL final @ Spa and European Swoop Tour final @ Bussloo.... Rats. ciel bleu, Saskia

Yes it matters. For FAI competitions, you need a PAL camera, period. If you live in Europe, usually you can play back NTSC footage because most VCR's and DVD players here can record and show both. In the States, no such luck, you still need NTSC. If you make a dvd, it will play on all computers regardless of the format but will still have issues with some standalone (mostly USA) dvd players. Editing a movie that has both formats in it on a computer has it's own problems but can be done (at a cost to quality). For linear editing systems though, most of the hardware is either PAL or NTSC and does not take anything else. ciel bleu, Saskia

1.5 has more filters/transitions and more encoding options, and can also burn straight to dvd. ciel bleu, Saskia

is it possible to have A/B transitions w/o rendering?
dragon2 replied to StevePhelps's topic in Photography and Video
If you mean what I think you mean, 7/Pro and pro 1.5 don't require rendering first to preview transitions. ciel bleu, Saskia
