  1. Did you miss my previous post about the free companion software on the Paralog website, that just dumps data on a PDA. ciel bleu, Saskia
  2. Looked here yet? http://www.dropzone.com/dropzone/ ciel bleu, Saskia
  3. One guy at our DZ ended up with a 7 cell Safire2 after opening! Ouch ouch ouch ciel bleu, Saskia
  4. I have 3 external hd's. And an extra internal one, making 6 harddrives total. All full The oldest ext hd makes a lot of noise, it still works most of the time, for now, but ... We had one brand new ext hd crash at the world record last year, not funny. I guess the moral is, don't put your eggs all in one basket! ciel bleu, Saskia
  5. What situations? Do you think you can disconnect your RSL in freefall? Under a spinning main? If I do a jump I don't want an RSL on, such as a camera jump, wingsuit jump (debatable though), crw or a hopnpop from 12k, I disconnect it beforehand. I'm not going to try and disconnect it when I'm in trouble in the air, and can't see any reason why such an action would not get me into MORE (lower) trouble. ciel bleu, Saskia
  6. LOL if you want your A over here, you need to do a packing test. Nice opportunity to see what interesting twists and turns you can inflict on the rig ciel bleu, Saskia
  7. For me, it's 1000ft, but if I ever get that low with a mal I screwed up before that. Don't you guys have anything about this in the SIM? ciel bleu, Saskia
  8. Over here, it's EUR 4 or a Sony DV tape, and about EUR 1.40 for a DVD, if you just go to a shop. We have to pay " media copy rights" on all writable media, and it's a lot for a DVD (0.60 eurocents i think). So the price is about the same (for legal DVD's anyway). Cheap media, well some of the broken dvd's and cd's were philips, sony, tdk, basf/emtec etc, others the cheaper brands. But I didn't check the numbers to see who made them. Maybe I should start... Righ now i burn important stuff to cd/dvd twice, and a lot is on my harddrives. I just really need to clean those up ciel bleu, Saskia
  9. DVD video is mucho compressed, not an option. Avi is ok, but I lost a lot of footage because someone deleted a directory on the ext harddive, and because a lot of dvd's (about 2 yrs old) with avi's on them now have "cyclic redundancy errors" whatever that means, they are unreadable now I only ever ruined one mini dv tape, so I guess I'll export to tape and store stuff that way, tape is the cheapest option anyway. ciel bleu, Saskia
  10. I asked a TMI at our DZ what the tandem harddeck was after a Spanish TM rode in a blown topcell and was debating to chop it untill 1000 ft (as per a thread on dropzone). I asked: Can you chop a tandem at 1000ft?" i thought tandem reserves opened slower than sport reserves answer: "Yeah! Apperantly you can! But don't do it!" Turned out that weekend there was a foreign TM at Texel who disconnected one riser at 1000 ft by accident instead of disconnecting the RSL as he wanted to do. He chopped real quick, and the reserve opened in time. The TM's and the TMI at our DZ said there is no hard deck as such, but tandem reserves can take thousands of feet to open yes. I think most of them have a 3500ft harddeck. ciel bleu, Saskia
  11. Just a funny story: while going through tapes looking for other footage, I saw this video of a tandem master's training jump, shot with a hand cam by the passenger (a very experienced TM). I didn't know what I was looking at at first, I only say the passengers head, with line twists all the way, and a big orange canopy I then realized must be the Icarus tandem demo we had for a while. Then a loud "noooo!" The TM in training wanted to cutaway right away. "start kicking $%!" Funny video anyway ciel bleu, Saskia
  12. If I remember right what riggers told me, it's the fact that if you push the sides of the container closer together, by putting in a smaller canopy, the riser covers move furhter over over the reserve container, and because there's a special shape spring in there it may have trouble getting out. Something like that anyway, I'm no rigger. These rigs definately don't look good anymore with a different (even one size) canopy in them, the smaller rigs I've seen at least. The 170 rig may not be so bad. Yeah the bottom flap loop doesn't help with that, I jumped a mirage this weekend with a too small vengeance in it, the loop was at the bottom flap instead of at the bottom of the container, even though there's a spot for it there as well. I had to replace the loop, the knot in the loop was slightly through the hole in the loop! (Eh does that make sense? The loop could not be any shorter...) ciel bleu, Saskia
  13. The control range of French canopies is always short, but you can check the brake line length like this: Check your canopy in full flight, there should be a bow in the steering lines. Now pull down both your frontrisers as low as you can and check again, there should still be a little slack in the steering lines, or at least, you shouldn't be pulling on the tail. Usually, esp with PD canopies, you CAN'T pull the frontrisers down to your chest because the brake setting won't allow it and the canopy will start to buck because you're telling the nose to dive and the tail to brake, at the same time. That's definately not helping your swoop any of course. ciel bleu, Saskia
  14. The FAQ in the photo section doesn't work. I was trying to figure out how to submit photo's for the malfunction section? ciel bleu, Saskia

    Base DVD's

I like these, not only base but other stuff as well: ExtremSportVeko (Extreme Sports Week) 2004, 2005 Adrenaline (the iMax movie, available at Amazon) Adrenaline Hunters 3 Soul Flyers ciel bleu, Saskia
  16. They're graet rigs. The only thing I don't like much is the fact that they're made for one size canopy, I change canopies too much so I need a more flexible rig. Love the fit though and it makes a GREAT freefly rig. ciel bleu, Saskia

    Katana 135

Harder openings on a vengeance? My vast experience of about 20 jumps on 3 different Vengeance 135/120 says the openings last up to about 1000ft. Loved the Vengeance, I want one but can't afford one. Makes a lovely camera canopy because of those slow openings... Although one of the 135 's I jumped and another 150 I saw have a tendency to turn to the left pretty quickly during opening, not funny if you have a camera helmet and makes the opening "harder" (feels like it anyway). The other 135, I'd even do birdman jumps with. ciel bleu, Saskia
  18. 36 m/s in full flight? You're going 78 mph in full flight? Probably not, or are you talking about horizontal speed? ciel bleu, Saskia
  19. We have a special small harness for kids. If the're too small to fit they can't go, but most kids from ~5 yrs and up fit. ciel bleu, Saskia
  20. On the paralog site there's a free program somewhere, that just lets you download the jump data to your pda. It's both for palm and pocket win2003. Using that data as input you can write your own logbook software without getting your hands on the api. ciel bleu, Saskia
  21. Do a search on this forum, lenses have been talked about hundreds of times. You need to know WHAT you'll be filming to know the magnification factor you want, and even then, the magnification factors of different lenses don't match and it also depends on which camera you put that lens on, then you need to know the threadsize of your camera to know which lenses will fit and you can choose between normal lenses and low profile lenses, each have their advantages. ciel bleu, Saskia
  22. Why esp on a 9 cell? Doesn't help on a 7 cell either On a 7 cell you have less flare to make up for mistakes, I think the timing of a 7 cell flare is actually more critical than of a 9 cell. Esp something like a Lightning. although with a 9 cell you can end up with more forward speed left, you have more time and flare to fix this before that happens. LOL When I started flying smaller canopies (7 cells) and was having some trouble landing those without having to run for it, I just told myself to flare LOWER in zero wind, because of the higher ground speed you THINK you need to start flaring sooner. Of course I'm not flaring any lower, I was just holding myself back from flaring too soon. Not looking at the ground underneath me so much helped a lot too ciel bleu, Saskia
  23. Well, flare technique CAN change depending on wind, right? I mean, if a swooper starts his flare while dragging his feet doing 60 mph level to the ground on a no wind day, he can end his flare right there if he's pointed into a 60 mph wind. He'll be stopped at ground level. The end. Right? Ever see someone flare "the same as always" in high winds? They end up on their back, usually You flare the same, you just stop a bit sooner because if you flare all the way you'll end up going backwards. Which can hurt. You can stop flaring when you're at ground level and your groundspeed is zero ciel bleu, Saskia
  24. Usually PD has the brake line setting too short. Check your canopy in full flight, there should be a bow in the steering lines. Unless you have too much slack even when frontrisering, the brake lines aren't too long, and you have another problem. You could shorten them anyway of course, but that means no frontrisering for swooping or just in high winds to get down etc. ciel bleu, Saskia
  25. I know a couple skydivers with Sabre's that open just fine. Not EVERY Sabre opens hard. And ANY canopy CAN open hard, with or without packing errors. Just look at the threads on Spectre's opening hard! ciel bleu, Saskia
