Wingsuit weekends @ Teuge, The Netherlands.
dragon2 replied to ParaShoot's topic in Wing Suit Flying
We already did some jumps today, nice weather but hazy so my photo's aren't great. Did a 2-way with for me pretty good results, see profile. Now I gotta KEEP it in the low forties.... Also 5 penguin-wannabe's just finished their first flight course, so tomorrow they'll be spreading their wings for the first time -
Why? I'm a field rep, have had neptunes for 2 years, and I'm aware of the problems it has had. Most of the problems with neptunes have been fixed. A lot more can be fixed by upgrading the software and using ok brands batteries and changing those batteries regurlarly. I know people who are not happy with theirs, but most people love theirs, esp swoopers and wingsuiters. ciel bleu, Saskia

that's cool. Like I said thanks for trying to give me a heads up. Seems to me that the ones reading in DZ.com need to go to the MFR's websites and get info and make decisions for themselves. I don't plan on getting a digital so I don't need to read it. (I also said I use machanical altimeters) if I change my mind then I will go read the MFR's websites. I rarely post on DZ.com (don't know why I did this time) or read from here because lots of jumpers think they know everything about every part of jumping. Not saying that you are an uninformed know it all AggieDave. Point being, there is lots and lots of bad advice and info on here. It will be just about impossible to police what is being said to make sure it is all correct. Lesson learned for me, stay out of the forums to avoid this type of posting. Relax dude, what's your problem? LOL some people here are Alti-2's field rep's so they happen to know about what they talk about, most of the time And bad advice here usually gets corrected, if it is bad as such and not just another way of doing things. All in all, even though it is always best to check with instructors/mfr's/etc the info on here is pretty good, I find. But you're not obligated to read it or follow it or reply to it. But if people give you well-meant advice regariding a post you made, that is also correct info to boot, a post like yours comes off as.... unmannered. IMO. ciel bleu, Saskia

Well a lot of swoopers nowadays have neptunes. This means you CAN see your vertical speed under canopy. I checked some jumps that are on my laptop right now, a quick 270 on a ~1.7 loaded stiletto 120 gave a top speed of 45 mph. That's how fast I'm going in my wingsuit... And it is NOTHING compared to the tiny swoop chutes. So yeah, anyone with a neptune could've seen we're getting close... love to see a profile from a 540 by Jonathan or something though. ciel bleu, Saskia

http://www.skydivingmovies.com/ver2/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=603 Scary alright! Can't remember what exactly went wrong here, he did tell me once, but he says at the end, after being asked what happened: "a high speed malfunction, nothing happening at all". He ended up with the freebag bridle around his neck for a while ciel bleu, Saskia

for the dutch swoop tour we have open = cb and intermediate = non-cb. 5 ft gates as well for int but easier rules for acc and sometimes for speed as well. only for the bussloo comp, final of the euroswoop tour as well as a dst comp people could choose their category themselves. ciel bleu, Saskia

From what I've heard (I only filmed rots), if you have a fast team then filming CF2 is going to be just about impossible because of the different angles. Now you have to be HERE and a second later you have to be on the OTHER side of the formation. Staying still in the middle isn't going to cut it. Anyone actually been filming a fast team in a competition? How do you do it? Any busts? Or is it not so big a deal? ciel bleu, Saskia

Everything new still gives me a rush. First jump, first freefall, first jump on own gear, first crw jump, first time sitfly actually worked, first downplane, first dragplane, first wingsuit jump, first jump on a skyflyer3 wingsuit, first camera jump, first wingsuit rodeo jump, trying out a new canopy, first demo jump, first reserve ride, etc. The biggest buzz now however I get from seeing someone else have fun, ie filming a wingsuit student, seeing the smiles on other birdmen when a formation comes together, doing 3way crw with vengeances just for laughs, or my teammates in a fun 3way or something. I started jumping to do 3 things: birdman, crw and camera work. I got to do all 3 in time, and still love doing 'em! Yeah the buzz will come back, if you do something you love. Can't start right off the bat with birdman, but you can go on tracking dives for instance. Or maybe you'll love doing 4way, or whatever. It will never be the same as that first jump, but boring, nah! ciel bleu, Saskia

Try "no wind and no added speed" .... Sorry Gadget, still don't like landing 'em Maybe if they made one my size, and I learn to swoop a bit ciel bleu, Saskia
-
LOL You try landing a mucho big canopy like that with loads of lead on too I liked my lightning 126 much better thanx And even you guys are jumping tri's and lightnings now, right? ciel bleu, Saskia

Who makes the french crw canopies anyway? Are they still made, and if they are, why do they (apperantly) still only come in "big" sizes? ciel bleu, Saskia

One-man downplane landing on Fort Bragg
dragon2 replied to SkymonkeyONE's topic in Safety and Training
Apperantly not: That's because they DO NOT. Only the pillow on your right side does that! THAT's what everybody is concerned about. Usually not, but there ARE rigs equipped with something called an SOS system, usually used for students only. ciel bleu, Saskia -
One-man downplane landing on Fort Bragg
dragon2 replied to SkymonkeyONE's topic in Safety and Training
But how did it happen? I pulled too low, I pulled at 2500ft, and the rig had a FXC. In case you don't know, with an FXC2000 you're supposed to pull at least 1500 ft higher than the firing alti, which was set at 1000ft. This apperantly was cutting it too close... Result: 2 out, they flew in a biplane configuration untill 1000ft when I got my very own personal downplane which I promptly chopped. CRW downplanes are fun, personal downplanes NOT! ciel bleu, Saskia -
Why? 'cause it's cheaper (saves you money for jumps) 'cause you will probably downsize soon anyway 'cause you'd hate to get grassstains all over your shiny new $$$$ rig Unless you really can't find any rigs that fit you and your canopies, or you have way too much money to spare ciel bleu, Saskia

I suspect the CYPRES on my "new" (i.e. first) rig that I bought from the DZO may "expire" (12 years + 9 mos from the Airtec website) around Aug of next year. I'll ask my rigger at next repack. 12 yrs + 3 months, not 9. What are you mad about? Didn't you know the cypres' age when you bought the rig..? ciel bleu, Saskia

One-man downplane landing on Fort Bragg
dragon2 replied to SkymonkeyONE's topic in Safety and Training
Being the lowtimer on this thread, I have to admit the training can cause memory overload. So I read the SIM on EP's with 2 out mals. Anyway, on a student rig it doesn't even matter, you have an RSL and I think if you pull silver only, it will release main anyway. Although they won't tell you that. So either way you shouldn't ever have a 2 out mal with these student rigs. Am I correct? Either way I'm always thinking and trying to learn how to deal as if I didn't have these extra devices. I'm not trying to hijack, I just thought maybe things aren't stressed enough because they can't really happen on student rigs, or can they? Riiiight.... So my 2 out with student gear was something I imagined?!?! Like the above posts suggest, go talk with your instructors/rigger, please... ciel bleu, Saskia -
Canopy Malfunction: Lineover (*landed*, with photos)
dragon2 replied to SudsyFist's topic in Safety and Training
IMO he should've chopped it. We had one jumper on our DZ that landed a hybrid thriathlon with the crw bridle all knotted up so the topskin couldn't spread out. Now he didn't know THAT, but he knew SOMETHING was fishy. Only near the ground, at flare height, did he discover that a) the downward speed was pretty high after all and b) the canopy collapsed on him when he tried to flare, a + b = one hurt jumper. Not having faith in your EP's, wow, something seriously wrong there! I chopped a similar mal once, video is on my website. No way would I land a canopy like that (any size) unless it's my reserve and I can't figure out which line to cut. Well he did control checks at least, but you can't say for sure how fast your descending and if the flare is as it should be. The plf was very smart. And he survived, which is the main thing. But some serious talking to/retraining would be in order, IMO! ciel bleu, Saskia -
Sorry, no clue. Our national team was a rotation team but did sequential on the big competitions too (without training... ) with the same rotation shortlined tri's (120 and 99). I would go for sequential trim I suppose, and go either with lightnings or comp tri's. Some of the top teams jump tri's now. But if you want in on a bigway usually you need a lightning... Stay away from the diamants/ruby's though is my opinion They REALLY land like crap I like the 2 way event, maybe I'll pick up crw again...
-
If you're just going to do the occasional crw jump a ot of canopies will work. For serious stuff, look at what the people you're going to jump with have. We have a lot of lightnings at our dz, but also a couple hybrid triathlons and a couple competition triathlons. Plus some diamants if the belgian guys come over The hybrid tri's open slower and have more flare than the "real" crw chutes, but the slower openings aren't always a good thing of course. They also have less reinforcing. Most crw people at our dz jump a wl of 1:1.3-1.4 but our national team used to jump at close to 1:2.0. ciel bleu, Saskia

It's not a PD canopy. It IS a bit old though. A couple of our starter jumpers have them as cheap first mains. see here for some reviews and stuff http://www.dropzone.com/gear/Detailed/28.html ciel bleu, Saskia

Grounding Yourself For Wind
dragon2 replied to jumpjunkie2004's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Same here. Ditto. Once I was in Empuria, a for me new DZ, and they posted a wind hold for people with less than 200 jumps. A very experienced skydiver from my own DZ asked "Why aren't you jumping? You have 202 jumps, don't you?!?!" ciel bleu, Saskia -

Another use for a memory stick I've seen in skydiving is to export video with a logo on it. Marking your footage as yours, like some people do with photo's as well. ciel bleu, Saskia
