That still doesn't make it legal... Don't be surprised if they don't like you doing this. Might be they don't care, but I for sure would! ciel bleu, Saskia

What does that mean 'wingsuit' canopy? A canopy you use when flying a wingsuit (BirdMan suit etc, see wingsuit forum). Usually these canopies open straight and not too hard, are stable, handle a couple linetwists well etc because if you get twists you need some time to get out of your wings before you can reach up and kick to deal with them. Ie if you do wingsuit with a tiny Velocity, while possible, you'll probably have probems sooner or later. The best wingsuit canopies are Spectre, Triathlon etc, because 7 cells are the most stable, but the Pilot makes a very nice 9 cell wingsuit canopy.. ciel bleu, Saskia

The standard lens is crappy, a fixed 28 or 24 mm will serve you much better. ciel bleu, Saskia

You can't take someone's license away from him, for a while? Over here we can, and we can ground people too. Max time is 10 yrs off the top of my head. An instructor can ground you on the dz in question of course, but the KNVvL has a sanction committee that can do more than that. You can get punished by them for beaking the rules (BVR and BR) and/or for doing dangerous stuff. It's not done often, a few times per year tops I believe, but it sure can be done. The sanctions have limited scope, ie I think if you're grounded in The Netherlands you can still go jump in another country, esp if you still have a license, but I think it helps! ciel bleu, Saskia

Packing. ciel bleu, Saskia -
You do realise that canopy is going to cost about double what it would otherwise cost?! ciel bleu, Saskia

Jumping when under the influence of pot (among other things of course) is not allowed in The Netherlands. At our DZ the rules are, don't even smoke on the property. Not even after jumping. I can smell it, not sure if it's the breath I smell though, the smell just clings to hair etc I think. No idea about how long the effects last, never smoked weed myself... I think the general rule is, if you smoke pot or drink alcohol, you're done jumping for the day. ciel bleu, Saskia

And you didn't visit Teuge?! The Apenheul is in the woods we fly over... Teuge is right next to Apeldoorn... And yeah, the monkeys are fun! ciel bleu, Saskia

Hard openings: - body position - packing - some types of canopies are more susceptible to this - shit happens rate of descent: - depends on weight, body type, suit - depends on body postion usually, about 120 mph on your belly. flaring: - usually for students the steering lines are longer making it harder to stall the canopy - student canopies are usually big enough that even if you flare too high you won't hit very hard, at least not as hard as I would with my canopy - stalling is not a problem really, sometimes in canopy control courses they will ask you to do it on purpose, just don't do it lower than 2000 ft - don't flare too high - if you did flare too high, don't let up, that'll hurt more! ciel bleu, Saskia

Adobe Premiere Pro to WMV - Best Practices?
dragon2 replied to sd-slider's topic in Photography and Video
Cleaner XL actually uses the microsoft encoder. Jarno, de-interlacing everything doesn't explain why sometimes premiere works fine and sometimes I get the blocky edges thing. The only time I de-interlace anything is when I'm converting between NTSC and PAL or if I import stills. I therefore thought it to be something of a memory problem or something? ciel bleu, Saskia -
Why put the Pilot in there, a Spectre is more like the rest of your line-up? For a discussion about Omni and Omega see http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1747762;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread For the other canopies, do a search, they've been talked about hundreds of times.... ciel bleu, Saskia

Adobe Premiere Pro to WMV - Best Practices?
dragon2 replied to sd-slider's topic in Photography and Video
Sometimes my wmv exports from premiere pro 1.5 are a a bit blocky, then I run the avi through cleaner xl. Cleaner xl is better anyway, sometimes I'm just lazy and try premiere again ciel bleu, Saskia -
First I'd worry about getting your license. After say 25 jumps (or more) you and your instructors will have at least an idea about what you'll feel comfortable jumping and what you'll be allowed to jump. And maybe what discipline you're most interested in. So there's no point in looking for a rig yet. As soon as you have an idea what you want, there are a lot of threads here that are about main canopies and stuff. But for now, just go jump, you'll jump the student gear at your chosen dropzone anyway. Some other stuff you CAN buy quickly are goggles, altimeter, gloves, maybe a helmet or a suit. Ask your instructor about this. ciel bleu, Saskia

The law in The Netherlands: if you are shooting in a public place and the people you are shooting don't come up to you immediately and ask you to quit, then as long as the footage doesn't harm the persons on it (and this has proven to be difficult to win a case on), the cameraman can do whatever he or she wants with it. This seems sort of the opposite as the German law? This is when it is not "work for hire" and it is not filmed in say someones living room (or worse ), only in the last case or when it can damage the subject do the "portret rights" come up. I've had problems with certain persons wanting me to remove pics (all taken at public places) from my site because they had problems with me. They claimed portret rights, months/years after the shoot. I'm not obliged to remove said pictures. I can't shoot any more pics of those persons if they don't want me to, though. Of course among skydivers/friends/base jumpers/... the "code of conduct" may be different, depending on circumstances (illegal base jump, carnage footage, ...), but if you take it to court, the above is the law. Of course, if you DON'T want a particular embarrasing picture to show up on the 'net, I can be bought Or if you DO WANT a particular picture posted ciel bleu, Saskia
