You need a firewire cable and a firewire port on your pc, and a capture program (windows movie maker is free). Import the footage, drag the clip onto the timeline, add titles/fades/... if you want, then export as a not-too-big wmv file (for instance), upload to skydivemovies ciel bleu, Saskia

I wouldn't worry about stuff like that actually. I've never seen student gear that was not suitable for the job, myself. AAD's, that's a personal question, but I'd be ok with student Cypres, Vigil set on student mode, and FXC12000, with the previous 2 choices being better. An AAD is mandatory for students so you will get one. If you later on want to freefly in those student rigs things to look for change, but you'd already have your own kit by then usually. I'd rather just go to the dz, hang out and get the feel for each, if you have a choice of dz's to go to. ciel bleu, Saskia

I haven't hooked up my laptop and my pc yet, but I usually use an external harddrive. If you assign the same driveletter to it on both computers you can edit, render etc on both without having to re-map stuff. In a network though, if the project is in the same folder as the files, or even on the same harddrive partition, it should work. If the files are on another partition or drive however then you probably have a driveletter problem. I did find that sometimes Premiere loses a couple files when there're still where they're supposed to be, in that case, re-mapping shouldn't mess up your project. ciel bleu, Saskia

I'd think that having to take pictures would be quite a distraction? Same as with jumping camera, video is easier. But, I can't think of any digital stills camera that can do the ultra wide angle you'd need, as most have a 28 or narrower lens, except for a dslr with a 10.5 mm or 8 mm fisheye lens. That's be a pretty big camera to wear on your hand, although I know some photographers do it every now and then (Norman Kent I think) if a small dv camera is deemed too dangerous, ... ciel bleu, Saskia

If you don't want to swoop, you might be better off on a safire2/pilot/sabre2 type of canopy, IMO. Also, going from 1.1 to 1.4 is kinda a big step. If you radically change planforms (spectre -> xfire) that counts as a download step too. Sounds like a lot (to much) at once, to me. Why not get say a safire at 1.2-1.3? ciel bleu, Saskia

There's a "crossfade" for sound: Effects - Audio Transitions - Crossfade - Constant Power (assuming Premiere 7/Pro or later) ciel bleu, Saskia

LOL I'd be too lightweight! Weight guidelines: Male Under 6'0" 220lbs. Male Over 6'0" 230lbs. Women Over 6'0" 200lbs. between 5'6" and 5'10" 180lbs. under 5'6" 160lbs. This tunnel looks fishy to me though, with the big suits and all? ciel bleu, Saskia

When was your first Off DZ Landing
dragon2 replied to adventurechick's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
My 5th jump was a tandemjump getting back from a jump-in at another DZ (for which I wasn't qualified yet hence the tandem). We landed in between some cows Not my fault Then when I had some 20 jumps or so I was doing a solo, hadn't learned to spot yet, didn't have my A yet. 2 experienced jumpers jumped out before me doing canopy formation, leaving me last out, how long should I wait? 7 secs. Okay. So I counted to 7 and jumped out. How should I know that canopy formation can get out miles BEFORE the airfield?! Couldn't get back into the wind with my 230 so landed out. When I got back to the DZ first thing I did was ask for the spotting briefing After that, a lot of off DZ landings followed, mostly during canopy formation or wingsuit jumps. I don't mind, just know which field I'm gona land on and in which direction by 1000 ft AT THE LATEST. We have a lot of outs here so it's not so bad. Although I do try to avoid out landings, esp for other people. A few weeks ago I just about got pushed out the door by my team when I was the ONLY one looking where we were, and we weren't at the right spot yet, we jumped anyway, and we landed out. AS DID THE REST OF THE LOAD except one. NO ONE was looking out the window, the light was green! Only the last jumper flew his wingsuit back to the DZ. These were all more or less experienced jumpers so even if I let myself get "pushed" out of the aircraft is no reason to follow us like lemmings.... Although next time I'll push back harder! Landing out usually is your own fault, learn to spot and LOOK OUT THE WINDOW ciel bleu, Saskia -
Dead wrong. Anyone with half a brain knows wingsuiting is where it's at! ciel bleu, Saskia

Your wingsuit instructor should've told you that. BEFORE you jumped it. ciel bleu, Saskia

I now jump a vengeance 135 at the low wl of 1.15 to 1.2 with lead. According to PD I'm not underloading it but I still think I am It flies great though. Icarus has a less conservative approach to wingloading than PD, so if the canopy opens handles fine.... That said, the safire would be a more logical choice for you imo. Why do you want a hp canopy? Do you want to swoop? I don't so my vengeance is a weird choice, perhaps. If I had the money I'd buy a pilot 124 or maybe a safire2 119. But this vengeance was cheapest and I love it. A vengeance 120 was also available but I thought is was perhaps too sporty as I'm jumping less these days. This 135 still comes with a greater potential for opening problems and is way less forgiving of mistakes than even a smaller pilot or safire is, esp since I do a lot of birdman jumps. ciel bleu, Saskia

When mine got nicked I bought a 2nd hand remote control for an old Sony Video 8 camera, works fine! And it has the bonus of having a locking button I didn't have on my remote. ciel bleu, Saskia

Garmin Etrex Vista C. Didn't have any choice about the model, I would've liked the smaller one like you have, but oh boy is this a nice toy. Comes with a usb cable too, YES! and it can run off this cable, though it can't actually charge. I need to figure out how and where to mount it and how the thing actually WORKS, besides the great gadget features like the color screen, up- and downloading pictures, welcome message, digi compass, geo caching, games (!) and various beeps (from annoying to MORE annoying LOL). This thing looks like a mobile phone! I love new gadgets ciel bleu, Saskia

And they will never see him coming - increasing the possibility of collisions. Not a good idea for a night jump, IMO. Other than that, I don't see any problem with it. I don't know, in my experience the color of the other canopies never made any difference... they were either black moving voids in the sky (from below) or black moving voids on the ground (from above), and the bigger the void the closer they were... (5 night jumps, no CRW or canopy illumination) The amount of moonlight can make a significant difference. And a strobe or chem-light can reflect light off the canopy - but I don't know about a black one. But night jumps are so rare, I wouldn't consider that a reason not to buy a black canopy. (25 night jumps, moon, no moon, illumination, no illumination)

Since you seem to know what you're doing, you can help me figure out my new gps toy this weekend

anything dangerous about a sabre?
dragon2 replied to unformed's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Well if you get the sabre and want to use your fronts, be sure to check the brake line length. Sabre brakelines are usually set too short to start with, and if the lineset is older they shrink even more. There should be some slack in the brakelines when in full flight and when in full fronts they shouldn't be pulling on the tail. Otherwise you're speeding up/diving at one end and breaking/floating on the other, not very usefull and usually the canopy starts bucking too. ciel bleu, Saskia -
If you get a pullout system your pin IS straight. But then the pin is pulled from the side instead of from above. Try picturing a straight pin that's lying flat with a regular pilotchute pulling from above. It then has to pull the pin out at a 90o angle. If you want to try this, be my guest ciel bleu, Saskia

anything dangerous about a sabre?
dragon2 replied to unformed's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Don't know why HE was, but I concur... Conquests are WEIRD canopies, if you pull on the front risers it collapses. Totally scary even to watch from the ground. If you never ever use your fronts, I suppose it makes a cheap first canopy. But the sabre should be a big improvement in that respect. ciel bleu, Saskia -
Eh you're from England so I presume what you just wrote is English, but... having a hard time following it... ciel bleu, Saskia

First Dutch Swooping Tour competition
dragon2 replied to dragon2's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Thanx to the somewhat crappy weather the distances weren't spectacular, but it was a nice Holland vs Belgium competition here at Teuge, with a Belgian winner. Congrats, Mike!
