Get a Spectre. Predictable, and can be opened from full flight, also can be opened really low. And it flares much better. A PD-R from full flight is going to hurt after a few jumps I'd think. That said I never wingsuited it, I just got one terminal reserve ride and 10 jumps or so on a PD-R when filming CRW. ciel bleu, Saskia

ok, you have a point there. but i believe that a lot of the expereinced jumpers tkink that they are perfect and know everything. that's why they do stupid things and get hurt. there is a way to learn and practice hd with a minimum of risk for both jumpers. when you are linked you are close to each other and you'll realize your forward and backward speed. and i know how to control my speed. when the distance gets too big you should stop hd and do transitions to sit. but i also know that most of you guys will never listen to jumpers with less experience. it all depends on your personal skills. some people are more talented and learn faster than others. the guy that jumps with me has 500 jumps and he wouldn't jump with me if he felt that i couldn't control myself. of course you need a lot of experience. but if you want to do it you have to start someday. but that's my opinion. Sure. Headdown AND jumping camera, at 150 jumps, with other newbies. I truly hope you don't end up in the incidents forum. Don't you guys have rules about this (what you're doing wouldn't be allowed in The Netherlands, on both counts), or at least a DZO or instructor who cares enough to keep new jumpers in one piece?!? I think the "smaller" mals are the more dangerous. People have gone in thinking "I can fix this" like stuck brakes, linetwists etc. I know a guy who broke his back landing a crew canopy with a knotted bridle. Not an obvious mal, from below at least as the canopy was square, but the canopy dropped him on his back when he tried to flare. I have had both a stuck brake and a stuck slider on crew canopies (hmmm), fixed both with plenty of altitude to spare but kept thinking "nah what a wussy first chop!" and after a few chops, I was reluctant to chop my spectre when BOTH brakes were stuck and the wind was blowing hard, so the canopy would've ended up miles away. Got the breakes released in time, again.I DIDN'T chop when I got my wrist tangled in my steeringline and triple risers, during the 960 jumpers demo jump (still no clue how i managed THAT but I landed the spectre just fine). But this time the decision WAS informed. I think with those smaller mals, you may take too much time fixing it ("almost there!") and you have too much time to think ("my canopy will end up in the trees!"). An obvious spinning mal or a pilot chute that wasn't coming out, I had no trouble with at all. Anyway, good for you, for staying altitude aware! ciel bleu, Saskia

Hooked up my new D80, didn't bring my "old" D70S. Ended up with shots like these. Figured out what was wrong after 4 jumps with different lenses and light metering modes: whenever I attach the remote, the aperture gets stuck on 2.8 So, to get SOME shots of my friends tandem, I underexposed 1 stop. Too much..... It's an off-brand remote connected to a regular stereo tongueswitch. This same combination worked fine with my D70S. I'm going to try and get another made, see if it's the wiring. Anyone had this ever happen before with remotes? Think it's the wiring? How is the D80 different from the D70S? Could use some help here ciel bleu, Saskia

I tend to take exit pics when I'm doing camera for something else, usually wingsuit since then I'm last out anyway. A tandem camera might not have as much time in between jumps to sort the pics, and he/she needs to have a digital camera otherwise your pics will go to the tandem pax. Why not ask a regular camera flyer (maybe not one that is seriously team training they may not have time either)? ciel bleu, Saskia

Then you can still do only file chunks, not scene detect. I finally resorted to a freeware tool called HDVSplit to split the files from the tape, then i import those into Premiere. You'd think Premiere Pro 2.0 could freaking handle hdv files better Other workaround if capture tape in dv first, export batch list, capture tape again in hdv. Too much work I now have to re-do most of the work on the Bussloo video because the original 5-30 mins hdv files (captured with PP 2.0) are too big or something, and premiere refuses to render And I'm using a brand new laptop with dual core processor and 2 gig of ram too ciel bleu, Saskia

Also, unless you are a lightweight person the main is too small. A 150 is small for a first rig anyway, and you do not want to load an F111 main over 1:1 which means your body weight should be max 60kg/130lbs. ciel bleu, Saskia

I hadn't jumped that day yet. My FS4 team had, sans video. I'm doing video so I'm at the door, spotting. Green light comes on at a weird place, to the west with I thought northen winds. No proper jumprun either, we never flew right over the landing area as usual. So I stay put in the door. Then I'm just about getting physically pushed out the door by my teammate.... I'm guessing, huh they've been jumping all day, guess the uppers are different? They are sure insisting to GO. So I climb out.... In freefall, we drift to the south quite a bit Everyone except one birdman who actually looked out the window and flew himself back landed out. Turns out the pilot gave us the perfect GPS spot, for the CRW formation that had been jumping all day Boy did i feel stupid for jumping against my better instincts... Reaction of teamate when asked why he pushed me: well no I didn't look out the door but the light had been green for some time...... D'oh Next time I won't be such a wuss.... The entire Grand Caravan load had A licence or better though, and only ONE looked out the damn window, so I don't feel too sorry for them... ciel bleu, Saskia

Uhm might I suggest a talk wih you instructor, or even better, a rigger? If you jump with a rsl, go take a good look on how it's set up on your rig. ciel bleu, Saskia
