Did you report dz.com scams to the moderator? Did you check the scam forum before responding? I've never gotten scammed on dz.com, besides the ubiquitous Nigerian scams but those are real easy to spot. ciel bleu, Saskia

I just got my new 2nd hand sigma 14mm lens. Cheap, old, well used, and unfortunately, wet. It's got so much moisture inside, it's probably been underwater (seller is a diver, so probably seawater to boot). What options do I have? Anyone had the same problem? What did you do about it? So far the seller hasn't responded to my email. ciel bleu, Saskia

I once got topdocked by a Velocity 96 coming from way below me, when I had just opened my hybrid Tri 120 and hadn't realeased my brakes yet (WL 1.25!) ciel bleu, Saskia

2 tricks to help with getting down: - you can put an extra set of large french links on the back risers, tilting your canopy forward a bit giving you more downward speed. The instructor could do the same, on the frontrisers... - to pull your fronts to get down, first do a quick stab on the brakes then immediately pull down both fronts, this makes for way less pressure on them so they're much easier to pull down. ciel bleu, Saskia

In some countries you can get insurance, but in some, not. I'm covered to only a slight amount compared to the gear I have, but I figure, I won't lose EVERYTHING at once. Unless the hangar get's caught on fire Coverage varies, lost stuff may be seen a s thievery and may not be covered, damaged stuff usually gets covered, some insurance is for a fixed amount, some is for specific items (serial numbers). I had to claim once, for totalling a rig during a crosswind landing in turbulent conditions landing on pavement. Ouch. That was the 750 way demo 2004.... I doubt any skydiving association covers you for your damage, some do cover damage you caused to others. Keep this in mind when renting gear and when borrowing gear! You may end up owing the person you borrowed a rig from a new main, repack, handles and freebag. $$$$$$ ciel bleu, Saskia

You don't need an exif viewer, just save the pic to your harddrive then check the properties (in win xp anyway). ciel bleu, Saskia

A couple of guesses: your camera was set at shutter priority 1/250, it may be motion blurr. With good light, I shoot 1/400-1/500. The f/6.3 you ended up with, I tend to aim for f/8 at least. Also, I only got a few jumps (< 10) on a cheap sigma zoom lens, the zoom is cracking up already presumably because of the openings, zoom lenses aren't the best for jumping with... But getting a lens like that checked isn't worth it... ciel bleu, Saskia

I've NEVER seen the lights labeled... You get told what they mean at your new-at-this-DZ briefing... They don't mean the same thing everywhere, but at our DZ it's red - closed door, don't jump, yellow - open door and spot, green - you are allowed to jump. ciel bleu, Saskia

getting stable arch on S/L sitting exit
dragon2 replied to gravitywhore's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I have like 15 SL jumps or so, didn't quite get the exit thing either. I always let myself slide out of the door a little bit, ending up usually stable but off-heading, not a "positive exit". Then my instructor said: if we throw you outta the plane at 5 k, you gonna pull after 5 secs? YEAH! So I counted the fastest 5 secs of my life, pulled my ripcord after 3 or 4 secs LOL and had the jump of my life. On the (tandem) video, my instructor went "YEAH!" too LOL I then worked my way up to 12k in 1 1/2 weekends and did the clear-and-pull jump much later. Problem solved -
GOT IT!!!!!!!! Why do I get if AFTER I bought 2 extra remotes..? Ever heard of AE-Lock? ciel bleu, Saskia

Yes but this is not in response to these "tests". All new AAD's will be treated this way in the future, after the Vigil mishaps at Texel. Hmmm the report does say it is in response to mishaps with Argus, but AFAIK, this rule was being created before this anyway. Seems a good rule, to me. Too bad they cannot (will not) make the same rule for Vigil, since some tandem and student rigs already have Vigils installed. ciel bleu, Saskia

There's an interesting thread around here somewhere about a camerasuit, a camerahelmet and, luckily, a hookknife... ciel bleu, Saskia

I've got a few jumps on french diamants, on a no-wind day too. Give me a lightning anyday! ciel bleu, Saskia

A hybrid Tri will open, fly and land just like a regular tri. A comp tri is an entirely different canopy. It will open much faster, fly stable like a rock and land like a reserve, if nothing special has been done to it. If it's shortlined or something however, you may have to frontriser it for landing. But I don't suppose they'd let you jump a canopy like that for your first few crw jumps. Really, esp if you're used to spectre's/tri's, a lightning or comp tri isn't that bad. Even though some instructors can't land 'em ciel bleu, Saskia

Eh Willy, read the other thread in Gear and Rigging. Just ONE small manufacturer in France had banned the Argus, and that on the report by ONE rigger from The Netherlands, who performed a "test" on his own that no-one else (INCLUDING the Dutch skydiving autorities who are the only ones who can ban anything) have yet indorced. The Argus is certainly NOT banned in The Netherlands. ciel bleu, Saskia

Did you tell Danny that he's pulling his armwings closed? The extra tail isn't helping him if he isn't flying... ciel bleu, Saskia

I jumped my S1 after 80+ jumps on a classic2. It was fun, but also twitch and sorta scary. I only did 5 jumps on it then I sold it and bought an S3. Never looked back. I really do not like the S1, although another jumper who tried my suit said it flew twitchier than his own S1 so maybe something was "off" on this suit. But it was too small to let other experienced jumpers fly it, so I was glad i could sell it. YMMV. But as a wingsuit instructor, I wouldn't recommend it to you with so few total jumps and so few wingsuit jumps. It can get you into much more trouble than that gti can. What's the rush? ciel bleu, Saskia

I use shutter speed priority, 1/400-1/500 usually, depending on the light. I aim for f/8 or so. 1/250 is too slow, I'd rather have less depth of field then a too slow shutter speed. ciel bleu, Saskia

The Neptune also has the ability to change/add/remove/enhance features with a free software update. Right *now* the Neptune has fixed altitude alarms and quiet canopy alarm volume, but who knows what the future holds? I'm still waiting for customizable mp3 ringtones ciel bleu, Saskia

I still have a wireless remote set-up for jumping, I used it for the D70 for a year or so because it doesn't have a cable remote. You take the IR remote then fix the wires to it for the tongueswitch. Then fix the remote unit to the lens with an elastic band for instance. It's usable for sure, I got some great pics this way, but there's 5 problems with it: the camera needs to be in the ir mode (set the custom function to 15 mins) the remote gives no indication of failing battery the remote needs to point at the ir eye on the camera at all times the connection remote-tongueswitch isn't all that sturdy so sometimes I lost it the camera takes 1 pic/sec instead of 3 On a glove, no, since I usually jump wingsuit ciel bleu, Saskia

Sounds great. Really. I jump a veangeance 135 loaded at 1.2 and I did take it on a wingsuit jump once, but I'm hesitant to use it as my regular wingsuit canopy. I've got 200+ wingsuit jumps, more jumps than you total, some 75-100 jumps on vengeance 135/120, and load them way lower. But maybe (well surely ) you have bigger balls than me? Or like sponsoring your rigger... ciel bleu, Saskia

I just ordered 2 new remotes, off-brand so way cheaper than the nikon's. EUR 17/each with free shipping, compared to the 25-50 EUR each the nikon remote goes for. Still a lot of cash for just the connector.... ciel bleu, Saskia
