Huh? Firewire through pcmcia works fine. USB2.0 is 480mb/sec, firewire 400 is 400 mb/sec. Firewire is still better at handling large data streams (ie, video) but usb2 does work, and there are a few newer camera's that do not have firewire but use usb2.0 exclusively. You're talking about the usual USB1.1 connections on a camera, those are for low-res video and photos only and cannot handle full res video. But saying a pcmcia card will not work is dumb. ciel bleu, Saskia

Well I love my big ass wings, and I'm a featherweight. I've needed my wings on a few occasions Love the combo of big wings + a few kilos of lead. I don't jump booties, mostly because they weren't on this suit when I bought it and former owner claims to add booties would ruin the suit. Oh well. Just be careful with any kind of bigger wings, with the gap between body and wing, with the big burble etc. im used to big wings (I fly a lot of wingsuit) but they can cause problems. ciel bleu, Saskia

Make that a manta 288. WL 0.45:1. So? I did a no-flare landing on jump number 4, didn't hurt anything except my pride. Try that with a 1:1 sabre. Same for the downwinder at jump number 20 or so. I vote for big ass student canopies for the first jumps! ciel bleu, Saskia

If you can't get a demo in your country, try asking The Parachutecase (www.parachutecase.nl) for their demo, maybe they'll send it to you for week. Presumably that would cost you 30 euro + shipping both ways + something extra if you pay by creditcard. If you can't get your hands on a PD126R, try jumping a Lightning 126, I found they handle and land pretty much the same. On all the canopies I've had (quit a few actually), the steering line is made up out of 3 separate bits: between toggle and brake loop catseye ("lower steering line"), between catseye and cascades ("upper steering line") and the cascades themselves. I know there are canopies where the line between toggle and cascades is one continuous bit but like I said, I have never owned one of those. Maybe that's where the confusion comes from? ciel bleu, Saskia

If you accidently turn the focus ring a bit (never happened to me...) it changes the focus, since it is not FIXED focus but MANUAL focus, ie you use the focus ring to focus! So you do need to secure it with tape or a rubber band. ciel bleu, Saskia -
Mp's on a digital camera are not all equal! 6mp reflex = much better than 8mp point and shoot, due to the sensor being much bigger. ciel bleu, Saskia

Update: Yay! Camera repair guy took the lens apart, cleaned and repolished it as best he could. Said there was some rust on the screws. Said it had DEFINATELY been in an underwaterhousinng for a loooong time (repair guy is a diver too apperantly), so seller was not telling the truth, but I gathered that beforehand anyway. Repair guy said he fixed about 90% of the damage, but I shouldn't have problems with the remaining permanent damage according to him. He returned the lens after 1 week, with a total bill (including insured shipping) of EUR 80

To get "infinity" back, on the ground, autofocus on something far away, then switch to manual focus. Tape up the focus ring after doing this, if your camera has one. ciel bleu, Saskia -
Hi Sas Is the opening issues are due to wing-load or the Vengeance. Amir The combination is my guess. I've seen other vengeance canopies with similar wingloads open the same, ie airlock-by-airlock and reeaally slow, sometimes searching too much as an uneven number of cells are open on both sides. Never had to chop it or had any serious problems with it, it just opens weird sometimes The 120 I jumped (WL ~ 1.3-1.4 with lead) opened better, still nice and slow but 'normal'

I was jumping a vengeance 135 at 1.15-1.2 until last weekend, I had some issues with the opening (I don't think the canopy was made for such a low WL) but once the canopy is open it flies great and is very swoopable. That said, the only reason I didn't go smaller was because I was considering the canopy for wingsuit jumps. You may want to get a 107 anyway... ciel bleu, Saskia

Presumably it'll handle a lot worse, although I don't know the firelite design so I ,might be wrong about that. For instance I think the old PdF reserves the transfair and the mayday actually are pretty good even compared to modern techno's and pd-r's. Anyway, do not load any reserve that old above 1:1 it's not made for it. ciel bleu, Saskia

A merit packs awfully small, esp if it has a lot of jumps on it. OTOH, Vodoo's aren't known for handling canopy sizes they weren't made for.... They start to look ugly and the sides close in too much if the canopy is too small, if that makes any sense. I'd say a zp 170 would be fine if the merit fits great, dunno about a 150... PD Reserve wingloading 2:1 and higher

I once had a personal downplane (not recommended...) with 2 fairly matched canopies: a Skymaster 230 and a PD253R. They still decided to downplane after flying in a biplane for 1000ft (= a very long time with wingload next to nothing). I don't believe my 2 canopies will play nice together whatever the sizes, I'd have to see it first to believe it again. So I pick my reserve based on what I feel I can land safely, not based on the size of my main. ciel bleu, Saskia -
