  1. I somehow think that this jumper is not going to reconsider his canopy choice ciel bleu, Saskia
  2. Did you know that ellipticity doesn't really matter? A Velo is just about square I think A Vision is a hp canopy is not for beginners is a hp canopy ciel bleu, Saskia
  3. We have plenty of outs around our DZ, which makes a jump like this much easier. I ended up 2 freeway exits away from the DZ, I guess 2 to 3 miles, the other 2 guys were only 1/2 mile away or so. To avoid getting strung out you need to get the pilot to turn crosswind and then get out fairly quick after one another. And jump somewhat compatible canopies. The next xcountry jump I borrowed a sabre2 135, worked much better
  4. Don't do what we did here: http://www.para-teuge.nl/index.php?option=com_weblinks&task=view&catid=50&id=19 The plane was still flying into the wind when we exited, with a few secs between jumpers too.... Guess what, by the time us 2 camera peeps finally exited we were way farther and the rest couldn't wait for us anymore Got a comfy ride back though, and 2 others landed out too. I also found iut a Tri 120 doesn't glide as well as a Xaos whatever the next xcountry jump we had the plane fly perpendicular to the wind so everyone had a shot, we exited more quickly, we flew back as a group, and landed out as a group (well, 2) too ciel bleu, Saskia
  5. Yeah... it was both 35 degrees celcius and it was a family jump Makes for a "different" shot
  6. Because for FS4 I know the distance I'm going to be away from the jumpers at all times, so I set manual focus for that. No need for the lens to hunt if I aim in the middle of a star, for instance. Pics are always sharp this way. Besides, I save my battery (if on autofocus the camera keeps on focussing all the time), and pictures are quicker. For birdman, sometimes I'm in the formation sometimes above. For a biggger "V" I do use manual, for a 2 way where I am flying around my buddy or student, the distance varies from holding hands to tens of meters away, for instance during opening. Although for the opening shots, manual would be better.... ciel bleu, Saskia
  7. then what are you doing flying a hp 9cell at 140 jumps? ciel bleu, Saskia
  8. And that's a problem. You WILL have to turn low at some point. You WILL have to land it with extra speed at some point. You don't get to choose WHEN. So get ready for it NOW. Or, much better option, go jump a bigger canopy. A Spectre or similar 150 would be a great choice for you for say 200 jumps at least. Over here (The Netherlands) you can only jump a 135 even at such a low WL when you have 400 jumps. Hint? What's your reserve? I usually jump a Spectre 135 at 1:1.15, and I have 870+ jumps. I can land it downwind in someones back yard if I have to. Can you? Landing any canopy conservatively is easy. It's when the unexpected happens (out landing, having to avoid another canopy, someone on the ground, obstacle, downwind) that you prove you are ready for the canopy, or not. And at the moment, I'd say there is no way you are. Well, maybe you get lucky and don't have a problem untill you ar ready for it. Feel lucky? Not bashing you, although maybe your instructors It's just that a 135 is very small and can hurt you really bad. Trust the more experienced jumpers on this, they've seen it happen a gazillion times, unfortunately ciel bleu, Saskia
  9. I use it for wingsuit jumps, not for FS4 etc. I jump a nikon D70/20 mm lens, usually. ciel bleu, Saskia
  10. Weird, my TRV25 worked just fine as a pass-through (from a digital8 s-video to my laptop firewire) with tape still in it ciel bleu, Saskia
  11. http://www.dpreview.com/articles/nikond80/ iso 100, 10 mp, full usb2, cable remote + software
  12. Don't forget CaTo We have one other girl at our DZ doing tandem/AFF video, and there's one other girl doing FS4 video, she just started (first FS4 video was during Nationals LOL). but all in all, not many girls.... I dunno, I started skydiving because I wanted to film! ciel bleu, Saskia
  13. In my experience with several different countries, every time I have asked to buy one issue, they have sent me one for free. This is skydiving; people are cool. Contact the magazine. Don't contact the magazine for this (that would be me for instance) but contact the KNVvL directly: hbp@parachute.nl. Chances are, one issue is free, if we have to send out multiple, you pay shipping (2 euro/each). ciel bleu, Saskia
  14. 2 1/2 actually, Frederique has done a few wingsuit jumps too ciel bleu, Saskia
  15. SportParachutist will be number 5, september 2006. So it's not out yet, we're working on it ciel bleu, Saskia
  16. That jumper is very very lucky his main went away cleanly. He handled this very stupidly, he could easily have entagled the 2 and gotten hurt or died. Don't know how he got into the situation in the first place, but his solution sure leaves a lot to be desired! ciel bleu, Saskia
  17. What's wrong with PunkyFish? ciel bleu, Saskia
  18. A good reason why we never have students on radio You plan the flight and fly the plan. OTOH, one of our first-jump AFF students asked for a bigger picture of the airport and surroundings than the photo on the DZ, why? So he could see where he landed out ciel bleu, Saskia
  19. So the out-of-control tumbles I saw from people just learning to fly a big suit didn't happen? A big suit can take you for a much bigger ride. Deploying your canopy with a big suit can also be quite a challenge. You make it sound easy, and for a lot of people, it is. But for others, it's not. Trust me on that. ciel bleu, Saskia
  20. Duh, just found out every Dutch League team is on there, kewl
  21. Sure you can upsize. However, if you want to fly with the guys with the access suits, you may want to keep your phantom around... Flying very dirty isn't that much fun, I think, if you have to do it all the time with non-beginners. Or, get the others to upsize too ciel bleu, Saskia
  22. Nice Koos.... That with the new lens? ciel bleu, Saskia
  23. If you look down on the same page as this threaad, you'll find this one: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2356334;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread Plus there's quite a few other threads just like it..... ciel bleu, Saskia
  24. Editing software will, well, edit clips So cutting clips, adding effects, stills, titles etc. Most editing software will let you burn to DVD, but that's usually really simple. So for menus etc you need something like Nero Vision, Adobe Encore DVD, etc. The Adobe package is expensive and pretty high-end for a consumer, if you don't want to spend too much money and time, something like Pinnacle + Nero Vision will do the job cheaper and easier. ciel bleu, Saskia
