With rules varying per country, and some not having the equivalent to the USPA coach course, as of now, its not manditory. But it is our intention to slowly build towards that, and make sure everyone teaching isnt just a good wingsuitpilot, but also has proven didactic skills. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

How many ws jumps before teaching others to fly?
mccordia replied to SuperGirl's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Its all quite besides the point. When you set a standard, you dont deviate from that standard. If you need a 1000 jumps to become a tandemmaster, the fact that you may be a world champion freeflyer or swooper will not make a single difference, and you still have to adhere to the same rules that apply to everyone. Flying a slot in a formation, or responding to irratic flying some students do. Potentialy leading to someone impacting a student at high speed....its stuff you learn with experience. 100 wingsuit jumps dont guarantee that you have these skills, but thats what the following check-out dives should asses/take care of. If you want a certain title, related to experience and skill. Make sure everyone has that same standard. I dont blame any of the participants to the refered 'lapse in judgement' the chief intructor we are discussing made. But I do think he (of all people) should be the one sticking to rules, seeing as said course was (apperantly) refered to as the only non-bendable standard at recent USPA BOD meetings. I fully agree with Virgin-Burner on this one... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -
How many ws jumps before teaching others to fly?
mccordia replied to SuperGirl's topic in Wing Suit Flying
What I like about rules is that they draw one line in the sand, apply to everyone and dont get bent for reasons not related to the rules itself. Sad to see not everyone stick to the rules being rules... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -
Happy to see that at the PFC (and Sfly) courses at least are strict about the 100 minimum jump rule, and dont let non-relevant experience in other sports or diciplines downgrade the standard everyone should be striving for in instruction. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

My team cameraman Costyn also shoots everything with a DSLR (550D I believe) and the resulting videos definately look nice. Colorwise you do see the limitations (I think) related to the compression used. But the 50fps video the camera shoots, make it a joy to watch. http://www.vimeo.com/15198192 - Video from a few weeks ago And to compare http://www.vimeo.com/14062493 - First segment is HC5, second segment is Canon D550 (slowmo's in first segment are a post-effect) JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Switching it around, Ive seen a Belgian coach/instructor worry more about his Gopro being on (asking people to look at the light) than minding his student. Get a cam-eye and/or a normal camera if you're doing this on a coaching/instructional level! That aside, for students on WS jumps I also prefer no cameras, as well as an open face helmet (for better visibility of handles etc, that are all slighly more obscured by the wingsuit, compared to normaly) JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

The PFI documents I got handed down by James only noted that it wasnt needed, but was highly recommended. And I dont think I know anyone who just did the ground briefing and than told the student to 'have fun'. But appearantly some people did...but for sure, it wasnt what was in the PFI course materials either. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

In the documents it only said 'optional', which I guess (before my time) was mostly putting in writing, what most BMI's did in practice already. That said...looking at the program in its current state, there are a lot of positive changes, that hopefully push it to a higher platform in theory and practical use. The renaming to PFC is part of making clear it leaves the PFI program behind, and starts something new (as well as no longer doing conversions from BMI>PFI) JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

I dont think that is/was specific to any kind of brand-related training, but more individuals that didnt deem it needed. In our views, not as it should be... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Wow..do forward the name..I was never that lucky, and know quite a few people who got their FFC done without the instructor present in the air (or an instructor TRYING to be present). Actually quite similar to the way several people I know got that same rating. Only listening to a BMCI talk, not actually doing an examjump or jumps. A big flaw if you ask me. Long story short, there where a lot of bad apples. And the BMI/PFI and similar programs used to be nothing more but a cool name, and recommendation. Some people did great teaching. But in some cases, the teaching sucked. Bigtime. About 2 years ago, it was made manditory for coaches to jump with students. And unlike the BMI program, the recent changes also involve taking the coach rating away when people are bad ws pilots, bad teachers, or exibit bad behaviour not fitting of someone coaching/teaching. Its a gradual thing. But with a good group of people (Ed, Chuck, DSE etc) we are trying to formalize training a bit more in terms of the PFC coach rating. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Im also usually a friendly person, and not even a mod. But Sangi, come on. You rarely add anything to a conversation, and most often just state silly and offensive one-liners, that (like in this case, if the DZO is reading) could only cause more grief. Its an amazing feat to be elevated to the status where your name, for many people, is a tag they put on any annoying post. And that goes for both basejumper.com and dropzone.com Think a bit before you post. Or otherwise just read and learn.... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Experience Switching from Palm Downs to Palms Up
mccordia replied to Titanium_Gecko's topic in Wing Suit Flying
I went from +- 700 jumps flying grippered suits, to the palms down flying about 300 jumps ago, and the first triple dozen jumps couldnt get my arms to lift a drink of the table anymore. Its a completely different set of muscles you use. Best excersise: jump a lot 2) Do newbies on much bigger suits have a tendancy to overgrip and have too much tension in their arms? 3) Can you or should you learn to fly a much bigger suit with less leg wing, so less forward speed, to reduce the force on the arms until they are stronger? *** Dont fly max all jump. Play with angles, turns, dives. It not only is easier on your arms. Its also a lot more fun, and teaches you a lot about flying... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -

Judging your scores, including a flare within the competition altitude should push you into the top region easily. And would for sure be fun to shake 'the establishment' up a bit, with regards to who thinks he or she is the slowest flyer on the planet. And when it comes to times, and showing hard data..none of that is ego...its all just numbers and facts.. Also waiting for Justin to finaly show up in the ranking...with him organizing one of the performance comps. Might as well show a bit of slowfall as well with all those 4 minute claims And yes...that IS poking people.... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

I suppose, Helmut Tacke, winner of "Wings over Gransee 2010" in category "Time" can beat 5 Minutes in his X-Wing. His average vertical speed during the competion was 40,1 kmh (24,9 mph).Quote Negative Deniq...as all competition jumps include a powerfull dive and flare.. Full flight performance over a whole jump is a different catagory...and you of all (technical flyers) shouldnt be the one to make this silly confusion between two different diciplines.. Peroformance flying (with flare) or full altitude endurance flying.. And at those times, stamina also comes into play. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Awesome flight time...though dont forget to thank the pilot and his physical build in there as well When will we see some jumps with GPS data up on www.wingsuitcompetition.com/ppc/ Would for sure get you the title 'best wingsut flyer on the internet' (as geeky as that may sound..kinda cool). Just to be clear, the above is serious...so many people seem to be doing amazing flights, yet its only the small group of people showing up as the top flyers in the rankings for each comp. Getting some more diversity in there, and having the ranking be a more complete one (with flyers from all over the world, and not just the ones joining the marl/gransee/hungary events) would rock... 1:1.8 And looking at last years Wings over Marl, even the winner in distance only had 1.9 in one round. Showing that even though suits have grown 6 sizes since that first wingsuit design by Patrick, the performance hasnt doubles 6 fold... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Shame Robi had to pull out of the competition. He would for sure have ended high in the ranking as well. Any further specifics regarding speed/time etc? JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Even if you're not there for the wingsuit stuff, the triple A quality LO and 1 on 1 coaching for tunnel and freefly is more than recommendable.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

A last minute reminder to everyone who wishes to give input, write down thoughts or make suggestions. Only a few more hours and the IPC workgroup closes that segment of the research into wingsuit judging parameters. Please submit your own, educated and informed feedback and suggestions on judging parameters and the practical application to the IPC forum before Oktober 1st if you want to have input in this situation. After this date, the voting members will be taking a look at the materials gathered, and look at putting together an advice they can put up for vote at the next IPC meet. Seeing the amount of careless lowpulls, outlandings and often careless and arrogant attitude of a some 'princess' type self proclaimed wingsuit heros at dz's...Im surprised this didnt happen sooner. I know I once almost had an event cancelled due to some visiting wingsuit flyer feeling the need to repeatedly pull at around 1500ft (and lower). If outlandings and lowpulls are what people want...pick up base...dont kill someone elses happy dz... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
