Actualy, the best thing to do after a small misshap, is to get RIGHT back up... This restores your trust in yourself, and saves you from a week (or longer) of slapping your own head, and feeling unsure about your next jump... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

I met Chacky Chan on the set of "Who Am I" (I'm actualy in that film twice as an extra *lol*) I had a (short:) chat with a drummer from The Moody Blues (not Greame, some new kid) after a concert in the Royal Albert Hall (Moody Blues still kick ass:) I hung out with Harry Knowles a few days in Rotterdam (not 'realy' famous, unless you know what AINT-IT-COOL-NEWS.COM is) And maybe some dutch celebs nobody cares about.. Other then that....can't think of any... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Felix Baumgartner faster than a Porter
mccordia replied to chronistin's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I was refering to the low-opening jumps Felix often does at different events. While I think it's extremely cool, I've heard several people complain that it's irresponsible to do a +-200ft opening directly above an audience. In case of a long snivel or total mal. you'd take out several people below. I think the (Dutch USPA variant) KNVvL sent him a warning for this, since it was basicly a skydiving demo with base-gear and a (too) low opening, and all was done without the needed paper-work. But check his site...DAMN that skyray thing is cool. If you see him streaking across the sky, making fighter-jet like barrel-rolls it is realy something amazing. He seems to streak by a lot faster then a reg. birdman suit... I think a lot of ciritisism also comes from envy...because damn! He just has the coolest toys and does the coolest things :) JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -
Can I come flying in at the ending for a CRW dock with the main star and ask "Who won!!!????" ? JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Felix Baumgartner faster than a Porter
mccordia replied to chronistin's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
What does one have to do in order to become hated Do illegal jumps from helicopters from only a couple of hundred feet (above an audience...fuck up and several people die) and cause a lot of problems for skydivers and base-jumpers in Holland and South Africa by doing so? :)?? JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -
I think the problem with skiers would be that they don't have a parachute :) The cliff just ends at one point, having the skiers brake in time would present problems, me thinks.. But DAMN if he doesn't have the biggest set of steel balls I've ever seen! JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

problems compressing footage for web display
mccordia replied to fonzi's topic in Photography and Video
I usualy make the video 384x288, at a datarate of about 768 kbs (default datarate) and use double-pass calculating...looks pretty much okay... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -
Hehehe...I was usualy the kid who fell from the roof while trying to ride a bike on there, or broke an ankle after (almost) leaping over a 4 meter pitt, breaking my colar bone after falling from a tree and so on... People who know me and talk to me about skydiving and safety usualy reply with "Damn...your such a fuckup....if your still alive after 2 years of jumping it MUST be safe!!!!!" OOH MY GOD!! that video of Loic Jean-Albert is just AMAZING!! (soul2.mov) I'd read about it, but seeing him swoop the mountains in his wingsuit at only a few meters high is INCREDIBLE!! INSANE!! http://para-net.org/paramag/archives/directlive/direct193/direct.html JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

In the freeflying movie headdown at http://www.manifestmaster.com/video/ there is a guy (about halfway into the video) who is doing headdown, and his rig keeps slipping over his shoulder. It realy looks like his 'this close' to slipping out of his rig...scary sh*t! JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

I went to a special showing of the ANIMATRIX shorts at the cinema in Amsterdam last night, and in one or two of the shorts the whole 'real world being another level of the matrix' subject is also touched a few times... Seeing it in the cinema was great, If you like the matrix you should realy buy the Animatrix DVD, it's definately cool! JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

That's an interesting statement. You never jump solo? Ofcrouce I also do (a lot:) of solo's...next to learning new things, it's nice to just be able to relax and enjoy the view without having to remember points or try getting into headdown or any other fancy things..

Translated from nu.nl (dutch news-site) Berlin - The former head of the german Liberal FDP Jürgen Mölleman (57) was killed while skydiving. According to the minestry in Münster he probably commited suicide at the moment the police and justice department started a major investigation into him and his practices. The political leader was supsected of not paying taxes and illigal funding of his campaign. Anyone have more info on this? Sounds like a sick and selfish way to exit life, especialy concidering you skydiving friends who have to clean up the mess. But I gues some people realy see no other way out...Since he was jumping solo (?), I can not imagine him not having any skydiving friends on his dz... My condolances to friends and family... I actualy witnessed something like this on Texel (Holland) last weekend. The whole crew and 'cast' from a dutch TV station was on the DZ to do tandemjumps...it looked more like a (great) company outing though...no fancy filming or anything :) JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

I'm not against tipping anyone, but you are already paying a packer to just do his/her job. A compliment...sure...but a tip..doubtfull.. If someone works his/her ass off to keep you jumping all day I see nothing wrong with buying him/her a couple of beers after jumping is done...but tip for packing sounds too much like a bribe for good work to me...tip is just not personal..I think buying a beer (or cola, if he/she doesn't drink:) is a much nicer gesture... 2 new skydiving (world) records...
mccordia replied to mccordia's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
A small update, there's a good quality video online now at the dutch news-archive.. Incredibly cool to see (and hear) You can just feel the enthousiasm and atmosphere when watching this....wayyyy cool! http://www.rtl.nl/system/media/html/ffffff/actueel/rtlnieuws/2003/05_mei/10/media/streamcase_20030510_1836-ballon_parachutereco.xml?media_bandwidth_preference=364&template=%2Factueel%2Frtlnieuws%2Fvideo_template.html JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -

I don't have a debt, other then an occasional 400 bucks that I'm 'short' on my bank-account. But usualy it's just an issue of income/spending not being completely synchronised... Like last week...I was broke (already a bit below 0), salary wasn't due for another week, but still I went ahead and did about 15 jumps (next the stuff like gass and such).. But today I get my new salary and everything will be fine again..My bank also doesn't allow me to be more then 400 bucks 'short' I've been asked to raise it to 2000 bucks...and although it might come in handy jumping-wise, I'm not going there...it will only make it easyer to get into debt.. But in general I do agree...skydivers often spend money a lot easyer then normal people... Also with a skydivers birthday...friends and family give a 10 buck present, but skydiving buds often chip in for 20 bucks or so....it's money you usualy spend 6 times a day when you jump with somoene..why be a cheep-ass when it comes to a birthday... Same at our DZ. Also..sending a S/L student out 'unhooked' and telling them to pull their reserve might nog be a bright idea with a (more the likely) unstable exit/pull while there is a couple of feet of staticline trailing them, even if they'd do a full emergency procedure (the risers will reslease, but the pin/sl will still be keeping the container closed) A trailing staticline on an instable student who's never done freefall before sure looks like a doom-scenario to me...the changes of the SL entangeling with the student and/or main are so big (at least...that's how it seems to me?) 8 or 9 on (a 10:00 to 17:00 hour day) packed myself (I've never used a packer once:) with only 1 rig... One of the guys at my DZ did 101 jumps in one day (Dutch record)...no way I'll ever beat that....would love to try though... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

They put me back on the Staticline :(
mccordia replied to mccordia's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Acualy...IT WAS ME WHO DID IT! I made my 200th jump this sunday (morning) and decided to do a staticline-jump again....for old times sake :) I only did about 5 or 6 staticline jumps about 2 years ago, and it was SOOO cool to sort of relive that this way.. Flying a 280 sq-ft canopy instead of the 190 sq-ft I normaly use was waaaayyy fun... I did some front/backriser turns, stalled it (had to wrap the break lines around my hand a few times to acomplish this:) and did some crazy flying. Everybody at the airport knew about it, but the manifest decided not to tell the guys on the DZ (our DZ is about 1 km from the airport/hangar). They thought I was a S/L student doing my 2nd jump or so, and nearly suffered a heart-attack because of the sh*t they saw me do (up high:) They had a realy good laugh when they realised (and heard:) it was me when I turned onto final... I had a landing in the peas (directly on the old sweater we always use as a center:) and have a dirty smile on my face that aint easy to whipe off..:) The fact that I made 15 jumps on 3 different dropzones (Rotterdam, Texel, Flevo:) the past 4 days also helps with the smile ofcource.. My brother and nephew both skydive, and watching them jump for the first time from the ground made me finaly completely understand what my mom went through... :) I've never realy worried about anyone jumping, and even though I know they are competent..I'm realy happy when they've had a safe landing..
