UK/NL High Altitude Wingsuit Boogie (Texel)
mccordia replied to mccordia's topic in Wing Suit Flying
2 minutes...always wondered what that would be like (yes..talking both sex and jumping:P) Would be cool to use the altitude and fly from Vlieland (one of the neighbouring islands) to texel... Cya saterday-morning, arriving with the first boat! JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -
When it's DVD quality you are having troubles with, it's the final MPEG2 compression that is most likely the problem. Just try selecting the higest bitrate possible for your DVD, and Multiple Pass Encoding (if possible) A lot of encoding programs automaticly use a bitrate of 4 MB/s for DVD compression, while something like 7 MB/s is stil waay within limits and delivers much better video (les MPEG artifacts, the blocky thingy's) But then again, 10 different programs with the same settings can deliver 10 different quality DVD's...it's stil a matter of trial and error... Basicly because both standards use 50% of their image-lines for a field (field = half a frame) Every one pixel line is an even field, and then a one pixel line is an un-even field. So basicly your video runs at 50 half frames a second. Both with pal and ntsc. When you scale the video, the seperation of exactly 1 pixel gets lost. So it becomes something like 1.1 pixels per field, which is impossible, thus most editing programs then just blend the fields together in a horrible way. So the end result gets these wierd jagged edges. Not as bad as a completely interlaced video/still would look, but just enough to make you notice that it's a bit f*cked up Deinterlacing throws one field away and interpolerates one half frame/field into a full deinterlaced frame (some cameras actualy allow you to film without fields...called progressive scan) So in shot...Without this deinterlacing before scaling, the fields just get f*cked up... I've included an example JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

2,3,4 September - Jump-in from the UK http://www.islandboogie.com/other_events.htm Depending on availability of oxigen 18.000 ft or 15.000 ft Who's coming!?? I'm going to be there saterday/sunday...looking forward to it! For Dutch birds, give PCT a call or send 'em an e-mail, there's still slots for 4 or 5 more birds! JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -
1. I know the Voss clip was bad-ass....made me all wet and horny 2. I was talking about the url at the top of this thread...it's from patric passes' movie crosswind...just thinking it's bad form to post it if it's not legit. Since the skydiving dvd bizz is already soo small, and people are copying dvd's via cd-r's like rabbits...even though at the same time they complain that the good ones are so damn expensive if they buy them (no wonder, if they only sell a couple of hundred world-wide) I don't care about commercial films...be my guest....but the skydiving movie/dvd bizz is already so small, and it's so costly to make something as good as this (Crosswind), shot on 16mm and all. I was just asking trying to say, that if it's not online with permission...that taking it offline might be a nice gesture towards the maker(s) who put so much money and efford into it...? 3. Soulfyers..it rocks....cant wait for the sequal..!! I've seen footage from soulflyers on the EU channel 'eurosport', in between formula one races and such.....the mountain swoop etc. I guess Loic sold it to them....cool to see it on TV and hear people at work talk about it (and how they still don't really like skydiving or, but would like to jump from buildings and stuff...and jump with a snowboard..:P) Anyways...long story for a short question...:p JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

I mentioned this earlyer...but I was wondering if these movies were posted with permission of loic/patric passe? Just because it's basicly a copy from a commercialy available DVD/Video (definately one of the best videos ever!)? See the whole thing, it's called Crosswind JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Depending on what the purpoise is, if you are working completely in one standard (from filming to editing to burning) then the final product (A DVD) wil play on most players nowadays.. I think most stand-alone DVD players have no problem playing both NTSC and PAL dvd's (at least in Europe..dunno about them crazy US people) But if it's commercial work or competition etc. in your own country you're looking for, then you're bound to run into trouble. And the whole converting hell is something you're not waiting for... So in short...just buy or borrow a camera in the standard in which you are supposed to deliver the end result, and you save yourself from a world of pain :P JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Wow...carnage!!!! Is it the air-blast that's sucking the front row onto it's butt before the exit already? Must have been incredibly fast, cause most flockers even stay on level with the plane while tumbling... Glad that everyone got out okay (besides financialy...how much did this exit cost? repack, suit, camera-helmet etc)?? JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Getting back on the 3D thing... Almost nobody in 'in the industry' (as those seem to be so important to what we have to choose?) use Macs for 3D animation. Where Mac is more featured in the editing corner of 'the industry', PC's have the upper hand in the 3D animation corner (which is also why I choose a PC based laptop over a Mac), with most of the former SGI based studios even switching to PC based systems... Pixar, OWNED by steve jobs runs PC based systems for animation, and only uses Macs for their administration...:) If that aint enough proof that PC's arent all evill...give it a rest man... Preference is personal..I edit on Macs and PC's quite often..but couldnt care less what you put in front of me.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Any info on when that will set me back a few bucks..I mean...when it's out (gottahavegottahavegottahave!) JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

I suggest finding a BMI/PFI or someone else who is willing to teach you, that has an entry-level suit which you can use/rent to make your first dozen or so jumps in. After having done so, you'll be able to choose a slighly higher level suit you'd be comfortable owning/flying for the rest of the time, without 'waisting' money one an entry-level suit (although it's never money waisted ofcource) JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Hitting the ground with a high forward speed...I don't know what all the hoopla is about.. Last night, while driving home from a demo-jump, I got hit by a car on the highway (not my mistake) I got thrown off my motorcycle and hit the asfalt at 120 km/h. Both me and my motorcycle made a 80 meter slide. And ofcource I wasn't wearing protective clothing (only a leather jacket) My motorcycle was totaly wrecked...and I have 2 small scratches on my knees..and no other injuries at all..(I started rolling as soon as I hit asphalt) So if everyone is worried about doing a 120 km/h belly-slide...it can be done...(but you don't want to know what my clothes looked like...it would probably cost you a wingsuit) But anyways...sliding to a stop...it can be done :P JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

And good 3D software...Lightwave, 3DS Max, Alias Wavefront etc. I don't mind working on either mac or pc when it comes to graphic work or editing (and do both) but the lack of 3D software for a Mac is what made me go with a pc-laptop (and that one works like a charm on every front) And unless everything here in holland is way different in the USA, a good PC system will definately cost you way, way less money then a good Mac. So my choice was quite easy... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
