How many jumps before camera died?
mccordia replied to Shyandinnocent's topic in Photography and Video
With the camera inside a box I think it lives a lot longer. Most people I know that have put a 100 or more jumps on a camera thats side or top mounted without any protection/box, have moisture problems, and in case of side mounted camera's, even some broken parts due to riser slaps... I've put about 400 jumps on my PC8, and it's still working like it was the day I bought it (FF2 helmet) JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -

So this explains why Loic with his balls of steel is the best flyer in the world! JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -
Make sure you also throw your head back, and roll your shoulders back (the same you'd do when flying on your belly, just the other way around) To completely open up the legwing, and get a nice max (back)flying body position, you need to really push your head back, and get completely flat, so the top half of your body also has enough 'push' to keep you upright. If you bend at the waist, or hold your head upright, this tends to tip you a bit headdown, and dramaticly increases your verctical speed...(send you diving) But flying it with your body straight can make you fly through the sky at nice fast forward speeds. http://home.kabelfoon.nl/~fxcordia/photo/04_april/empuria_costyn_jarno_stack.jpg There's lots of S3S backflying with open legwing in this video http://www.skydivingmovies.com/ver2/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=3829 And some more, about 30 secs into this one http://www.bird-man.com/?n=windtunnel&nose=8 And a small shameless plug This video was shot at last years Texel High Altitude Wingsuit Boogie. Join in on the fun this coming month! Lots of skilled birds, oxygen on the plane, loads of extra altitude, and cool flocking jumps! I've seen several Matter suits that didnt have a correct fit (for the length of the body and rig) and when the person wearing it 'lifts' his arms a bit, or even just tensions the wings, it lets the suit swallow the handles. The PF/BM line of suits have adjustable cables/fit, so you can always make sure its good for the person/rig wearing it. But with the S-Fly/Matter suits, you definately want a suit that is a perfect fit for your. A suit just a little tight, can already end up eating your handles. I know one Belgian Bird who is thinking about having his suit modified to try and solve the issue's he's having with it. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Wingsuit weekends @ Teuge, The Netherlands.
mccordia replied to ParaShoot's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Hey Saskia, great photo's! Love the close-ups on Johan and Marli..and really nice one of the funky transitions. Yea..that was a nice weekend....as for jumping without a camera..I think 3/4 of my wingsuit jumps are without one (much to Costyns dislike) Something I havent managed to catch you on though...starting to suspect that your photo camera is screwed onto your forehead instead of onto your helmet....it wont come off But quite happy with that, as it has me ending up on the cover of a magazine here and there I've collected all the footage from the jumps on my tape..if I have some free time I'll see about editing it into a mini-movie.. So what are we going to call it when Bob is on his back and I dock then?????????????? 'Smoochinsomedick' we'll take suggestions before that one gets named. The name probably also depends on how many grips you are taking...2 or 3? JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

http://www.parasummer.com/2005/ (which is the site from last year) But just read that the 2006 festival is cancelled But it might be a nice idea to contact the dz and see if there are any birds there that want to set up a small wingsuit meet with you sometime this summer... *edit* I see on the website that Toomas Talts is a Birdman Instructor that is on the dropzone... Try contacting him maybe, see if anything bird-like is happening this summer... http://www.skydive.ee/?op=body&id=107 JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

A reason you might be experiencing difficulty in flying 2 ways, might also be your not too broad experience in other diciplines. Try doing some RW 2 ways, and freefly/tracking jumps (instead of all wingsuit) and you'll notice a lot of the skills learnt there are directly translated into your wingsuit flying. Actually putting the suit away for a while, and focussing on that wil definately improve your flying...even though it might sound as strange advice.. Especialy the aerobatic stuff, its better to practice that without a wingsuit first, and get good and skilled instead of trying it with a lot of wing that can make spins problematic to get out of.. And one more tip...use the internet and try and find an experienced flyer that can help you...flying with someone who's a better flyer, and getting tips and maybe even some coaching will improve your flying with huge leaps.. All in all..a lot of tips..all coming down to...dont rush things....and be safe...skydiving and skyflying wil be here for a long time.. Try learning everything with baby-steps...and especialy, DO work on your 2 way freefall skills in other diciplines...it will all benefit your flying....both form a safety, and a skills-standpoint..! *edit* I think both PFI and Bird-Man instructors hold the same 500 jumps total, or 200 jumps in the last 18 months rule, when they take people on as students.. Wingsuiting is a dicipline that 'lost' a lot of people that where trying things out, inventing the way how to safely do things...so dont try and invent the wheel when it comes to new things... You did a good thing coming in here and asking for tips...but nobody here can see how well you fly.. Just be safe..and try and learn as much as possible from experienced flyers (if possible) Its worth driving a few hours to meet up with someone on another DZ. Maybe making one or two jumps less a day, but if you learn more, its definately worth it.. Also look into Estonia, there's a few wingsuit festivals there in summer, and some good flyers that could definately help you developing new skills JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

If you have trouble flying together (non tricks), try not both flying towards each other, but have one of you fly 'solo' (just flying a good patern) and have the second flyer try and get close. Its usualy easyer this way, as two people working towards eachother can cause a lot of overshooting when trying to get close. And then just take turns flying 'base' *small edit* When you're comfortable doing 2 ways, and you know that you can play around in the air, without getting lost, hitting eachother, or doing anything else which might be dangerous. and you know your suit, and can fly it well and stable, no matter how funky your exit...then its time to try some 'tricks' I didnt notice you jump numbers, and do hope those are not up to date...as that jump number would be more suitable for # of wingsuit jumps in terms of this question, then it would be for a total # of jumps.. *end edit* Always do your tricks at a safe altitude (a safe margin above your pull altitude). Try practicing them solo first. Then try 2 ways, flying formation, and taking turns in doing small things like front-loops and barrel rolls. That way you'll be able to debrief each-other on what you're doing, and you'll see what your manouvre is doing, in terms of staying relative to other people (how much altitude is the manouvre costing you) If you check www.flylikebrick.com there is a section called video manuals, where small video tutorials on loops, rolls, backflying etc. will be posted the coming weeks (One new video a week is what we're aiming for) One is already up there, the barrel-rolls video will be up this week. Check the forums here using the search funtion, and you'll also find a lot of tips and pointers on the different manouvres you're looking for JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Was just trying to explain the reason why some people didnt understand his comments... But definately the same here! Big BIG welcome to the flock! p.s. And useless trivia> I see you're from Lappeenranta Thats accidently the only Finish place I've ever visited JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

If you're in an original skyflyer(1), then the wider leg-stance you'll find on almost all the higher range suits (S3, S6, V1, V2) will be quite a big difference, stabilty-wise...both in flocking and max flight.. *edit* I didnt have my own suit with me in Empuria last month, so I jumped a Skyflyer 1 a bunch of times, and definately had more trouble chasing a 1st timer, compared to what I'm used to in a bigger suit. That was my first WS flight in my life. Yeah, but I was fully deployed 400m lower. You probably mean fully deployed 400 meters higher then normal? But I think costyn was refering to the fact that (with a bit of coaching on body-posture etc from an instructor before their 1st flight) a lot of people get 80 to 90 seconds on their first jumps (and some come close to 2 minutes..as a buddy of mine did on his 1st jump..hate those guys)..which is usualy also from 12000 ft to about 4500 ft..(+-4000 m to 1500 meter) So generaly the same exit and pull altitude... But body postures/weight/length, style of flying etc can make these numbers vary a lot..so dont sweat it Nobody means anything bad..the numbers just seemed odd for the 'beat that' comment I guess JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Yea we noticed that when testing... IE, and Mozllia/Firefox work well on an Apple, but Mozllia/Firefox seems to have some issues on a PC. IE is not a problem. adding a view on site - download option is one of the things we where thinking of as well.. Its THE most important thing to remember JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Our Fly Like Brick website has been updated. There is some more content in the form of photos and a small write-up on a past wingsuit weekend in belgium. But most of all, we are proud to introduce the first installment of a big series of instructional videos. Fly Like Brick - Flight Manual During this summer, we'll be updating this section a lot, with new videos on anything from basic silly moves to more advanced flying. There are 2 more video's nearly done, and those will also be added to the site in the coming few days, so keep checking back for updates! Hope you like em.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

I've switched to not using a wide-angle lens for filming a few months back. And it took some adjusting, learning to keep my head still, but it seems to be paying off.. When I'm doing dedicated video-flying, I'm getting much nicer videos freeflying and wingsuiting then I was before. If your camera only has the function of 'flight recorder' (the way a lot of freeflyers use it) then I suggest you stick with a wide-angle lens.. If you want some amazing non-wideangle lens footage, buy Tim Porters DVDs (Timeflies 1 & 2) both are 100% non-wideangle footage, and the depth you get between the flyers, and the (back)ground is just amazing...(next to tim being an incredible flyer) JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

McCordia is gonna give the GPS a whirl this weekend. But, I have to say this competition looks like fun. Marl isn't even that far away. I think Team Fly Like Brick will partake.Quote Dude...the month before, we're doing 2 boogies, something like 4 wingsuit events, and probably close to 50 jumps already in Juli...unless we start selling ourselves in dark alleys behind the Amsterdam trainstation, I dont think I can even manage to buy food August... Would love to go there..even if its just to fly with a lot of people and have fun...but I'm afraid my endless budget IS getting close to its end by then And yay...work is done...the sky is calling! Cya tomorrow at 7:00 AM dude! *argg* Belgium, here we come! JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
