  2. The funny thing is that you still think its an accident Even though Tristan is not created from Dutch semen...he's definately part of the Dutch fellowship, and me just being incapable of properly counting probably accounts for the incorrect number People wanting to practice their Dutch Costyn and I did a (bad) English translation of the article. When we're back from jumping at our Belgian neighbours this weekend, we'll upload it for your enjoyment. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

  4. I'll try and whip together an English translation tonight together with Costyn, so all the Dutch-impared people can read it (WHY ISNT DUTCH THE #1 INTERNATIONAL WORLD LANGUAGE YET!!) JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  5. Putting the PDF online with a link might be cool for a lot of people. Who wrote that article? I dont have the text here, but might be nice to actualy put a translated (english) version online Saskia? JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

  7. He also still has quite a bit of forward motion going, and seems to still be in the 'arc' of slowing down. So his intended pull-altitude probably wasnt a lot higher then where he was pulling now? JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  8. Your example goes beyond the simple use of transitions...its a whole visual style (which looks awesome) JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

  10. From what I get, its just the legwing giving you lift (or drag) as you are on your back. And due to your armwings being collapsed, your upper body pulls you into a dive. If you are perfectly straight, it should just end up being a dive, but most of the time, the body is a bit skewed, and one arm-wing might be opened up a bit more then the other one. And you also have some twisting momentum left from the roll you where making. Usualy this only ends up giving you a 180 degree turn. But if your body is also ofset (not lined up with/pointing towards the direction of flight) then your rotation ends up not being a roll, but more like a corkscrew, which just steepens to the point where you are corkscrewing towards the ground on your back (et voila...flatspin) JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

  12. Spinning usualy happens when you dont completely close the legwing. Could it have been that you focussed less on closing the legwing on your 2nd and 3d try? If you're on your back, and the armwings are closed, the momentum of the roll you started can turn your legwing into a giant propellor, pulling you around like someone took you by the legs and gave you a swing.. 13. Navigation: Try to fly with your head a bit upright (like this), keep pushing the shoulders/arms down, you'll be able to fly quite well, and still look over your shoulder left and right, and see where you are. You wont get a picture-perfect view of the area where you are flying, but if you know the DZ and surrounding area a bit, it should be more then enough to make sure you know roughly where you are... And a small safety issue If you are learning to backfly, and you're not sure whats happening or where you're going, make sure you dont do any practice below 5000 ft, as you dont want to be the first person to backfly into a tandem/student or other jumper that opened high. As for someone shadowing you. Im a firm believer in trying things that could have you alter angle, fallrate and headding in extreme ways solo first, untill you feel you can do what you want to do, without endangering the person you jump with. But if you can fly on your back, even though you wobble a bit and move around, but you're not too much of a mess, it might actualy be good to have someone shadow you, as just looking at someone flying (way) above you, might also help you fly in a straight line. As (trying to) look around might be the thing thats causing your slipping and sliding...? And next to that, having that person wear a camera will be grear in terms of analysing what you are doing right/wrong. Just make sure the person that shadows you has the skills to 'find the way home' even though he's watching you. And has the skills to stay with you while maintaining a safe distance (and has the skills to get out of the way if something goes ape-sh*t) But quite often, moving around means you're just too tense...and just relaxing is all you need to do.. (hence: dont forget to smile) p.s. Wow...you'd actualy might start to think I was a safe person to jump with this way huh! JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

  17. I know one has been done in Holland with an inexperienced tandemstudent a few years back (for a TV show) and have seen wingsuit tandems done at two boogies.. It doesnt happen a lot..but people do it every once in a while... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  18. I didnt have any hostingspace, so I used the horrible you-tube. But no worries, the file has been removed.. And Twixtor, yea..its expensive, and can easely bring to slow your system onto its knees, its definately worth the money. We use it in animation for some automated in-betweening in 2D animation, and use it a lot in the retiming of composited/fx footage. But for the typical home-user its probably way more then he needs..but still amazing results that definately justify the price.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

  20. That looks smoother compared to the standard slowmo yea. Even though (according to the method premiere uses to process its slowmo) it should look the same, there's definately a clearer picture here. Might be the added frameblending premiere uses (on top of the splitting of fields) that adds some smudgy bits to the video when only using the basic slowmo? Definately something I'll play with a bit. When you say slowed down to 10%, do you mean half the original speed. (as if shot at 60 fps) As thats what your clip looks like. It doesnt look like 10% of the original speed (making a one minute skydive last 10 minutes?) I took the liberty of treating your posted .wmv with twixtor (I'll take it offline directly if you dont want it here, and otherwise will leave the video here for a few days if that ok with you?) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJc3D6Lu1dk Combined with the (50%?) slowmo that was already on your clip, this is probably somewhere around 400 fps (if the footage was shot this way...) There's a lot that can be done to up the quality (full-res interlaced input instead of 320x240 wmv, and creating a mask for the performer and background) but this kind of shows the nice smooth motion you can create with twixtor. 21. Seeing 2 of those 4 jumps you currently have are exits from 1100 ft, it might be nice to definately get more experience before getting someone else into trouble Granted, things are done different in russia, but (putting it a bit extreme) injuries and death treat everyone equal...so the more experience, the better.. So if you love your GF, waiting would be adviseable Rodeo's are also more fun when you know how to fly your suit well, which means the rodeo wont fall as fast... If 80 to 90 mph is what you can fly on a wingsuit jump, you may want to wait a bit untill you can fly at much, much lower speeds (so the added weight of a rodeo-er on your back doesnt send you hurling towards mother earth at headdown/freefly speeds) And added lots of smilies to make it look nicer too!! JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  22. If you use premiere pro, please dont waste your time! Premiere pro's slowmo is already based on this technique. The odd and even field are pulled apart, and deinterlaced to give you a slowmo. And when you go below 50%, frameblending (technicaly a fade between frames) is used to smooth the result (although that tends to get quite blurry, so staying within 50% is recomended) You definately dont need to spend all the extra time trying to pull appart your fields, as thats already whats done automaticly when you just use the standard slowmo. If you look at this video (where I went a little overboard with slowmos, especialy in the second part) its all standard premiere pro slowmos. But some editing programs dont do any frame-blending (PinnacleStudio/FCP) and give you (when using 30 fps as a base) 15 fps video when you do a slowmo, with some horrible blending effects...and even a blind person would scream 'g*d that looks horrible' THEN it IS definately worth spending the time pulling your fields appart to create new frames. And if you REALLY want good slowmo's...go for a more advanced plugin (like Realsmart:Twixtor) JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Wow...that looks amazing..smooth lines! Any video for us
  24. The mini-carabiners (its not the huge climbing ones for sure) on the Impact I flew werent any larger than a rapid link..Trying to pass a pilot-chute through one of those would be completely impossible..(but praiseable if you do manage, and also get it on video) The only thing would be the hole itself, but like mentioned earlyer..that could be an issue on almost any suit.. If you're worried about someone throwing their pilotchute through that hole, he/she has no business being in a track/wingsuit at all and should revert to learning to pull stable first JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
