  3. If you look at the amount of screwed up landings even seasoned swooping-pro's like the PD guys have, then Id much sooner just chalk this up to sh*t (sadly) happens, then search for turbulence/drag-reasons caused by a wingsuit? But you where there, and felt what happened.... Did you feel any weird drag or pulling on the legwing during your swoop? JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  4. Hope you heal up soon.. As for a wingsuit affecting your swoop. If anything, Id say it could ad some drag. But that would (at most) make you end up a bit higher then usual, as your diving-speed (due to drag) would be less fast? No experience in that area...to affraid of f*cking up my wingsuit on normal landings already..let alone try and swoop when flying one.. Hope you feel better soon, and maybe make your way down to .nl again! JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  5. Wow...do you think they'll land one of those things some day..>? eeerrr.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

  9. Most people post BASE videos on skydivingmovies, and that one is used as a frequent source for real-TV style programs (and 'funny/horrible video' websites) Having seen how those companies work up close, 90% of the time, they dont care who owns what rights. If they air 100 videos, and they get one laysuit, thats costs them less then actually trying to secure rights for every single video they use. If you dont want your stuff to end up in the media at some point. Then just dont post it on the internet...period. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  10. Thats a positive! Easy and fun to fly. Never flown an S-Fly before, and straight from jump one there was flocking, docking and we where a rockin'! Just make your body into one flat, flying pancake, with the fabric slightly tensed up by pushing your legs out, and your elbows/wrist up (out), and then work it from there.. 11. I wasnt built for it. Im too short, too fat, too stubby, my suit is the wrong brand. How often do you hear these kind of comments in freefly or RW contest when someone doesnt come in 1st? Its definately time for a wingsuit contest/sub-dicipline where people have no excusses and reason not to perform well, but their own flying skills.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  12. I think the clap/vote thing works well, but for a competition where true points/moves are flown, most (if not all) judging could be done by just awarding points for each move, based on its technical difficulty. This prevents people from bringing 70 friends to help in the "voting" JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  13. Its a new sub-dicipline. Jumping specialy designed weighted (wooden) shoes based on age-old proven designs, for maxim performance and a perfect weight distribution. http://redbutton.net/wp-content/giant%20clog.JPG JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

  17. I think (at the moment) the thing we shouldnt do, is try and come up with THE set of rules online. A long thread with suggestions, and letting everyone come up with his own rules, is all we need right now.... I know that when we run our small event later this year, we will try and use what we think works. And take things other people learned organising this kind of thing into account. But I think everyone organising a contest in the way he/she sees fit wil help in seeing what works and what doesnt. And a few more years down the road, when we start to develop more in that area its time for a real set of rules used for every event...but for now...have fun and play! JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  18. We're talking 2 performers, 1 cameraman.. So that would be a 3 way team JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  19. Ive (for a laugh) debriefed wingsuit jumps with the TV on its side, does that count? JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  20. I have a document (among many, many other writings and ideas about this dicipline) with some idea's for rules and ways to handle our artistic event (not really about winning, just about fun and creating awareness that there is more then just speed and time). Some bits and pieces: Awarding points (which would also easely apply for a free round btw) - formations flown without docks (both flyers in slot*, held for 4 seconds) - 1 point - formation with a dock (held for 4 seconds) - 2 points - formation with one backflyer (both flyers in slot*, held for 4 seconds) - 2 points - formation with 2 backflyers (both flyers in slot*, held for 4 seconds) - 2 points - formation with 2 backflyers docked, 3 points - Succesful linked transition (frontloops/backloops/rolls) - 3 points * definition of being in a slot Both flyers either on level (in flat formation) or perfectly above eachother (in stacked formations) within pre-described distance of 1 person width or height We want to give people 4 'moves/formations' per jump, so its also interesting visualy, and not just a repetition of 1 dock. As sayd before, you could account for teams with less experience by making two dive-pools, and allowing people to choose. With the 'experienced' divepool having more difficult maneuvres to pull off, but also more points to be earned in that one (look at ice/figure-skating and the way they award points) - Next to the points for the formations, we want to give each time 1 to 5 points for the creative camera flying (which could be abandoned, should teams have to share camera-flyers) - And 1 to 5 points for style (how smooth they fly, how clean docks are etc) Points can be flown out of the door, as long as they are held for the prescribed 4 seconds (a slap on a hand or arm doesnt count as a dock) Feel free to use or change whatever you like for your competition rules! 21. distance in no contact figures, would be one body-length (in vertical formations) and one body width (wingtip to wingtip) in flat formations. Both quite easy to judge (which means the camera flyer does have to work to get the angles right!) JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  22. Thats also the reason we have decided to not even try such an event untill the end of this season. We already have 3 teams that are willing to compete, and capable of For us, the reason to organise such an event is to try a different direction (sadly this event didnt succeed at stupino earlyer) But seeing the rise in overal skill the past year, I have no doubt sucha a contest at a small scale could work out well. We did think about making it possible for people to fly 2 ways, and maybe loan some other teams cameraman (if needed) Allowing people to pick figures in different dificulties (according to their skill and level) or setting up dives with one static flyer and one active (more skilled) flyer will also allow more people to compete.. 23. Cool to see we're not the only ones liking that flying aspect more then the number-crunching..cant wait to see video on your event! We have a simular contest planned in Belgium at the end of the season. We also decided to limit the working time to exit and seperation altitude. A simple protrack video overlay makes judging of the breakoff altitude easyer. Its up to the team to decide how to fly. Better flying teams get more working time, faster falling teams have less (but may get docks and other manouvres in easyer) As for figures per round, we have two kinds of figures/points. docks and formations, and we try to put 4 figures in each round. We thought about having several dives to choose from (much like ice-skating) so people can decide what they want to fly. And giving each figure a vallue. Any dock or formation would be worth 1 point. but people could choose between the dive flown on their belly, or with backflying (with backflying getting a higher point vallue) Lots of cool things to do and come up with in this arena! 24. The CCD in most consumer (DV)cameras capture a 4:3 image. When shooting in 16:9, the camera crops the image and puts the 16:9 video on your tape, scaled up to 4:3 (squeezed image) Although your CCD doesnt actually capture more pixels/detail, you do gain some quality (as more space on the tape is used to store the data) when compared to video you shoot at 4:3 and lateron letterbox/crop to 16:9. Maybe DSE could chime in with the more specific tech details? The terms 'for some stuff it works' is just a matter of how you frame things. Most people (myself included) just look at a subject and shoot. Thats both in freefall, and shooting people coming in for landings etc. There's not a lot of people that actualy fly in such an intuitive way, that they work on framing during a jump. Depending on how your look at it (mostly, depending on what lens you're using) you gain two extra pieces of image on the side, or you loose bits of image on the top Look at what your audience will be viewing the video on. When I do a tandemvideo, I ask them if they would like a widescreen version or 4:3 version (depending on what TV they have at home) Watching the stuff I shoot on a widescreen TV is what I like (and do) most, so thats what I shoot in.. 25. What weird thinking made you do that? Thats like saying people need to do more then 2 jumps and learn to actually fly that before buying the biggest suit around? Silly people JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
