The event was a huge succes. Quite a few jumps where made, including some spectaculair ones by Johnny Utah, and Johan V, all the way from the top of the euromast, passing the main balcony while still in freefall! Too bad the jumping was cancelled halfway through the second day due to someone badmouthing several people within the organisation.. I should have a short promo (for GoFast) online before friday. And a bigger (base only) video for you guys which should be done in a week or two. If you supplied any video the past weekend. Please PM or email me your name. As the organisation didnt have all the names of jumpers with camera for me, and I want to give proper credit to everyone. Ive also recorded a few TV items on the event. Ill try and include those in the event video as well. Cheers JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Pre-Cochstedt weekend @ Schaffen (info on sleeping/driving etc)
mccordia replied to mccordia's topic in Wing Suit Flying
We where thinking of meeting at schaffen around 8:30 on saterday (though earlyer would be handy) so before 9, we can have everyone go through registration (just paperwork/DZ registration, doesnt cost anything) and get your gear ready. And then around (but hopefully before) 9-ish, do a big briefing about safety and the do's and donts, and then start deviding the people into smaller groups and start briefing jumps! Around 9:30 we hope to put the first load up, and from that point on, have the whole circus jump to the max for the whole day, each group with their own 'leader' for briefing/debriefing and manifesting.. The main goal of our weekend wil be to get everyone up to speed on formation flying. We're not aiming at records or big formation shows. We want to have everyone fly, and hopefully learn with and from eachother, and help everyone raise their skill-level a bit... No worries..we're not there to perform to some record..we're there to all learn new things and have LOADS and LOADS of fun! JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -

Establishing a System / Process for Wingsuit Records ?
mccordia replied to ScottGray's topic in Wing Suit Flying
I think Id define a record as a completely formed formation. Nobody left out. A picture with a formation, evenly spaced. The distance doesnt matter that much, as long as it looks like a formation, and the rough shape is recognisable. Anything with people not in their slots, falls under the biggest exit with wingsuit catagory. And slotspecific would be an option. But anything over a 9 way, its getting harder and harder for the birds in the back (or wherever) to see which slot is still empty.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -

Why do you think the monday in Amsterdam was sceduled JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -
Its the pilot to a large extent...but having someone backflying in a large backvented suit like a Mach1, blade etc. along with someone trying to do the same in a classic, and he's going to have a hard time keeping up.. There are people who can easely keep up with everything on their backs in 'old' suits. Way before backvents etc. where even an option. But flying a suit also designed for backflying is definately something that makes it 200% easyer.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Pre-Cochstedt weekend @ Schaffen (info on sleeping/driving etc)
mccordia replied to mccordia's topic in Wing Suit Flying
small plan update We want to meet at Schaffen on saterday around 8:00 AM for paper-checks and checkin at the manifest etc Around 8:30 we hope everyone is checked in, so we can devide the people into groups (depending on the number of people there, 2 or 3 groups) and manifest, so (around 9:00) we can start putting up the first loads. Before that time, we will do one big briefing on safety in flocks, and after that start on the briefing/slots for the different groups. Each group will probably be around 10 people. We plan to jump in these 2 or 3 groups for most of saterday and sunday. These groups will all be working on one or two formations over the weekend. Trying to fly them slotted, and as clean and smooth as possible. Working on improving everyones flying on exit, approach, in the formation, and at breakoff. This weekend will mostly be about working on the skills to fly the bigger stuff in cochstedt. The smoother you fly your slot..the easyer germany is going to be the week after.. Once we feel a formation has been flown to a groups best capacity, we will move on to a next one. If we have enough people there who can, we will have one group flying really fast/speedy formations. Depending on the skill level, we want to try and end the sunday with one huge (maybe 2 airplane porter/caravan) load, flying one big formation JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -
The blade is airlocked/backvented yes.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

In non-vented suits with ribs, its the tension on the wing, and the ribs inside that help form the profile. So no actual inflating of the wing is at work there.. Its the mylar material pushing the wing in the correct shape. Dont see why not.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

You could also try just adding an airlock to the front inlet. The prototype Blades we flew in spain had different legwings, that had no backvent, but an airlocked inlet on the front. They stayd perfectly inflated on the back for a whole jump, even though they didnt have an actual intake on the back. The smaller legwing on the S1 does make it a bit easyer to learn to backfly then an S3 (or any other bigger suit), due to the smaller legwing, that doesnt overpower the armwings, when you are not flying those optimal yet (when you just start backflying), so its less prone to dive headdown.. The dropzones have PIN machines, but from our past experience, cash is the best (and only) way to go... With +- 10 BMI/PFIs walking around, I dont think getting coaching or a FJC is going to be a problem. We want to make this a weekend for everyone, by everyone...so all help in all corners is appreachiated..(especialy with FJC students) JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -
What Ive seen so far (video and photos) looks like the same sturdy sail material used on their previous suits.. No filmsy balloon ZP.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

I think close to 42 (out of the +- 48 who exited) people in the same place in the air (with roughly 30 or so actualy flying within 5 meters about where they need be) is the current 'record' But most people coming to Cochstedt this year dont seem to care about the biggest exit 'record' that much. Flying the biggest slotted formation, everyone in his place, is going to be most peoples focus for this year. I think the slotperfect (US, Z flock) 9 way diamond, and (EU, Herc boogie 2004) 14 way V formation that have been flown so far should count as the ONLY true records. And we should work our way up from that. Slotted, clean and evenly spaced formations with people skilled enough to fly them.. Though its fun to talk and laugh with people about their experiences on having been on 48 way (US) and 69 way (EU) exits, while they cant even fly to another person on a 2 way, its not really the proper and safe way fo working towards 'records' I think something in the 25+ flyers range, a slotted and clean formation should be and would be the the next true bigway record.. 175 euro for 11 jumps is what I was talking about with the 16,50 (which is actualy 15,90 as I just cheched). But I was roughly correct with my prices right JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -

Its quite common to have a bit of performance loss when you go from one suit to another for a few jumps. It takes a while to get used to the new balance/wings. Though bigger suits help, fallrates up to the high 30s, have been done in just about every suit, ranging from Classics to GTis to S3s, Mach1s Vampires, Blades etc. Its mostly a Gábor sayd, bigger wings dont automaticly mean longer freefalls. The most common 'mistake' is trying to cup air, to go as slow as possible. At that point, you start using a wingsuit as a camerasuit, and not as a flying wing. Try and aim for flying faster forward, and you will notice freefall times also getting longer. Experiment a bit with different (steeper) angles of flying JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Pre-Cochstedt weekend @ Schaffen (info on sleeping/driving etc)
mccordia replied to mccordia's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Ok boys and girls. Only 3 more weeks to go! We've already made a webpage with info about that weekend. Here's some updated information (also added to the page) accomedation People arriving thursday/friday before the weekend, are welcome to stay at Costyn and My Place. We have space for (resp) 5 to 8 people. On saterday, we'll be camping on the DZ in belgium. And sunday/monday, those who want, can stay at Chez Costyn, or Jarno's Inn Costyn lives in Utrecht, and I live in Maassluis (close to Rotterdam). We'll then meet up in Amsterdam, for a fun day out with the whole group on monday (that will probably be a train trip, so people can drink) Tuesday morning, we'll head off to Cochstedt quite early, so we can arrive in the afternoon, and register. And then make our first jump wednesday morning. If you want to stay at our place, please send us an email at flylikebrick@gmail.com, and specify where you want to sleep. Car Pooling If you are renting a car, and you have extra space available, either driving from Holland to Belgium, Belgium to Holland, or Holland to Germany or back the other way. Please post your ride here, so people can reply and join your car (maybe format it like this example, showing?) People who carpool can also split gas/rental costs ofcourse Costyns Car - Utrecht (NL) to Belgium, FLB weekend, Belgium to Utrecht (NL) - 1 extra place available 1. taken by Mirjam Costyns Car - Utrecht to Cochstedt, AN72 Boogie, Cochstedt to Utrecht(NL) - 1 extra place available 1. taken by Mirjam planes The dropzone has (next to the C208 Caravan) arranged an extra Porter for the wingsuit pilots, so plenty of lift capacity! cost We have gotten some question about registration etc. for our pre-cochstedt weekend. THERE IS NONE! Its a free weekend! The organising and outside photo/video we'll be doing wont cost you a penny. We pay our own jumps, just like you. If you want to buy someone a jump, then who are we to stop you but again...and we stress this....there is NO charge for anything, besides your own jumps! Jumps at Schaffen cost 20 euro's (or 14.,50/16,50 if you're a member, depending on how many jumps you buy) Membership is 100 euro's (and gets you a year membership of Schaffen, Moorsele AND Zwartberg, so definately worth it, if you plan on dropping by in Belgium once or twice more this year) All jumps will be briefed (something new and special planned for the dirt dives, to make things easyer for everyone) and properly debriefed with video, and (positive) feedback on everyones flying. coaching For those interested, there is room for 1 on 1 coaching, and that will be at slot price (no extra coaching fees) phone numbers In case you need to call any of us, for directions or if you want to drunk-dial us: * Jarno Cordia: +31624111093 * Costyn van Dongen: +31646073103 JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
