If only....the suit I fly and rig I wear (though branded) are worked for and payd with hard cash.. The brand wars also took their toll on me... On cold winter nights...I can stil hear the muffled screams of those V2s slowly falling out of the formation.. The sound of laughter about my scallops hunts me in my nightmares, while I fly alone at dizzying heights and distances after breakoff...and my enemies silently cry alone in the basement... I hope we never have brandwars again... ps. your suit sux JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -

nehh..I prefer wearing a suit that stays in one piece when you walk to the airplane Im leading a little rebllious fraction at the moment, which is not completely sure which side to choose for the oncoming BrandWar II JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -

His technology consists of a 1 by 1 km , 300 meter high box filled with marshmallows. First they where going with a box filled with GoFast cans, but that didnt prove do-able. His sponsor then dropped him for lack of commitment, so now he's now focussed on finding a candy-factory that will sponsor his landing.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Blame it on the guy with the smart canopy-choice.. Ive downsided a lot since then...on a spectre 150 now! Does that make me cool again? Or do I have to go beneath 90 sq/ft on a wingsuit to be cool? Yes..when used correcly... Or are you one those people that starts complaining your reserve doesnt come out when you push on your reserve-handle? As stress may cause you to push instead of pull. Use it the way it was designed, and it will work... As good a porn movie that may be...I bet we never actually get to see the video JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

You've mentioned this before.. Maybe I have weird body dimensions, but standing up I can reach and pull the cutaway handles without having to do any bending or pulling knees up. When standing up (if you have an avg. body size/shape) my hands/palms are resting on the side of my upper leg, and my fingers are fully on the handles. Just slighly dipping the shoulder when reaching down enables me to fully enclose the handle with my hand and jank it out. I end every skydiving day by putting my suit away. And always remove the suit from my rig standing up, and pulling the cables out. And I never really have to bend or dip to get to the handles.. I suspect the Ghost to be pretty much the same in terms of grabbing the cutway loops/handles. Maybe even easyer, as you only need two fingers through the loops on the cutaway, instead of having the grab the little pillows like those on the blade. Could your lentgh, and maybe sometimes jumping suits that are 5 to 10 cms too short maybe have something to do with the problems in reaching handles? A few years back, I pulled the cutaway cables on my S3 (which happens to be THE S3 you were jumping) on one of the first few jumps I made with the suit. I made a helicopterjump (at the Herc Boogie in '04) where I decided to go for my first full-flight pull. That one caused a simple linetwist. My canopy started diving already in the opening, so I decided to pull the handles. As the zippers still took me a while back then, and I had practiced pulling/touching the handles quite often on the ground. Like normal emergency proc. I had no issue at all removing/pulling the cables out in a hury. It was one smooth move. And that is THE same suit you couldnt get it to come out if I understand you correctly? About a year ago, a friend at skydive rotterdam ripped half of the loops of the body of his GTI during a reserve procedure where he felt it necessary to pull the cables out. He told me he grabbed the handles and pulled em straight up towards his chest. And it was hard to impossible to get em out. Afterwards, trying it again on a friends GTi, pulling with an outward curve (either forward or sideways) the cables came out smooth and easy. Its been noted before a wrong pull (pulling upward) can cause the cable to sort of lock, and come out harder/more difficult. And I remember debating about this when you pointed out the difficulty in the Phi you tried. Like all clever designs..they're only as clever as their user...so it might be that your inabily to pull the handles says more about you then the design You may just have a weird build (in terms of reaching), and need to switch hands every once in a while while watching videos late at night, so you gain some strength in both arms.. The fact that you cant memorize the position is not even that big an issue.. When the 1st zipper is one third or halfway open, the tension of the start of the second zipper, and your then unable to pull it open, unless you use two hands. Which would only work (ofcourse) if you had three hand (since one is locked up in the sleeves.. The webbies also seemed to be a good idea the the start Tony, but multiple pullproblems on suits already out there and flying made you change that. In my views (self centered and full of bad humor as they may be) altering a system thats there only for a few specific (but potentialy dangerous) incidents is not something you want to 'test in the field' to see how long it takes for it to become a hazard.. Id rather ask you... I was just asking a question... Ive been busy with a videoproject focussing on a lot of the older wingsuit stuff, and I tend to think its bad form to take any credit away from people who where devloping things way before some of us where even born.. A lot of 'new' techniques and things have been tried and experimented with way, way before our time..credit where credit is due..thats all.. So dont get your panties in a bunch just yet JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Though I dont doubt the extra R&D that went into the cable-release system, the footage and photos Ive seen of Patrick DeGuyardon wingsuit, and also the suit Adrian Nicholas was flying, to my eyes seem to have the same tab/cable system. And watching the making-off from the movie 'The Gysy Moths' (also on skydivingmovies) the small segment on the wingsuits used in that film (at 11:00 into the video) also show an explanation of a cable-jettison system, rigged along the body. And that dates from 1969. All these similar systems seem to predate any of the later 'commercial' wingsuit exploits? Am I wrong in thinking it was an invention from Patrick DeGuyardon, if he didnt already base it on a previous design/system? JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Quoteha, but seriously, I've said for many years that skydivers need to go out to a ski shop and buy some good polypropyleneQuote But actual clothing ment to keep you warm? But how and when are we skydivers ment to do 'our poser thing' in our hoodies and 10 different long and short sleeve shirts with logos of engerydrinks then? JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Will you print that on the warning label? And I guess that means the pink plush sweater my granny knit for me will be a no-go on the SM1.5? JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

At the AN72 boogie two jumpers collided, and one ended up with a broken (upper)arm. Trying to undo zippers in a situation like that will definately be a big hassle.. And there are a few other freaky incidents where the armwing cutaway proved a valluable asset of the wingsuit. Is that the excact same thing as pulling your main every jump, and in an emergency having to do something different....(pulling your reserve) To prevent the spinning mall from making you do the actual cutaway..... As pointed out earlyer...using the release-cables, means one big move even a gorilla with fingers like sausages could do in a panicy situation. Having to undo a zipper, as easy and accesable as it may be, in an emergency situation, its definately going to be harder to quickly grab and undo.. The reason for the zipperjam (fluffy sweater) could verry wel hit a double version of the same system... Granted, the suits I fly have the system on there as rigging cables in the first place. But personaly I just like 'the backup system' using a completely different technique/system then the main one (the zippers). JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

When you look up articles on the first current style wingsuit (Deug) the cables are often refered to as 'rigging cables' or 'the rigging system', and not as cutaway cables. When you look at suits such as the S-FLy, the cable-release is actually quicker (and only a single move) compared to the useage of the zippers on the suit. Especialy when you need to reach a riser fast to avoid any type of strike..be it object or other jumper... Zippers are tiny things. Granted, a spinning canopy or reserve may be the only reason for ever needing to unzip/undo the wings in 'full panic' mode...but when that happens, Im quite sure janking out the cables is a helluvalot quicker then playing with the tiny zips.. I think undoing a zipper uses the fine motorskills in our arms/fingers/hands. Where as janking out a cable is more of a rougher action that any cavemen can do. Where-as cavemen can roughly be the mental state of a person in a dangerous or stressfull situation where he needs to use the system. Granted..there are only few situations where the release of the arms/cutting away of wings in either freefall or under a spinning canopy is needed. But when the poop hits the fan, I think Id prefer having a big old cutaway cable to grab and pull without even looking at it, instead of fumbling with a zipper... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Should Gay Purple Mike be in charge of 3.5?
mccordia replied to Capricorn1's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Define for me technical, please. Is it multi-point skilled ways perhaps? People working on the flying within the formation (multiple points, difficult slots on multiple levels etc) instead of just 40 people working on getting to the formation and half of them never getting there? But without overanalysing..It was just a word choosen to describe what Ive been reading about the F&D meetings...bigways on .0 versions..smaller flocks aiming at more complex things then just flat formations on the 0.5 versions.....dont read too much into it....
