You of all people should know that performane and the capability to handle incidents or dangerous situations are two different completely things..and anyone who thinks less experience is the way to go is an idiot in my book.. I wasnt refering to any specific incident..just peaking in general.. People with less experience are more likely to get in trouble when the shit hits the fan..any experience you have can and will help you... Although there's always some fluke example of someone who did ok with less experience (and I cant wait to hear those same stories again and again) If anyone is serious about jumping or flying, then the fact that a MERE 200 jumps is viewed as a lot before starting on wingsuits is laughable... Nobody mentioned anything about any instructors related to safety btw...but your anti-establishment stance has been noted...you rebel you JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

You sure thats you? I dont see 25 Go-Fast logo's anywhere? ooh...wait...eyes fixed towards the camera...face like he is about to shit his pants....jup..that you! JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

I also believe its using its tail as propulsion (its not flapping, its pulsating in a sinus-like motion)..I was just asking Robi if it was his thinking, or if he had some more info on the critter somewhere, as there seems to be little to no information available on this critter online.. Sounds like a new-age discovery "New species of animal found..online" JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

I shoot a lot of wingsuit stuff without a wide-angle lens. But depending on what Im filming, you do note (even the most subtle) headshake a lot more compared to filming with a wide angle lens. But it definately improves your filming/aim after a while. What I like most about shooting without a wide-angle lens, is that distances come across as more natural/normal. And when you combine it with some nice broad moves, you really get an incredible sense of depth between your subject and the (back)ground. These are some first flights I shot past summer. Most (if not all) shot without a wide-angle lens. And also a video I shot on Texel, where I tried to fly with broader moves, and even zoomed the camera in a little more, to emphasize depth/movement. But that also shows the shortcomings very well, in terms of shake/headmovement. If you want an amazing example, check out video's of Tim Porter. He is an amazing camera-flyer, and shoots all his stuff without a wide-angle lens. The depth, clarity and kinetic movement in his video's is really jawdropping.. Im working on his new DVD at the moment (TIMeFlies part3) and the horrible truth is that the 12 hour selection of video he mailed me could just be duped onto a big DVD set without editing...so amazing to watch him fly/shoot. It turns even the most boring jump into something beautifull.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

p.s. Anyone wanna place bets how long its gonna take for Tony to create/release a suit called the "Calugo*" *available in tue dye JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Wikipedia (as correct or incorrect as it may be) states flying squirrels to only 'fly' at a glide ratio of roughly 1.98 The Calugo definately seems to do a lot better. But it also seems to score a lot higher in terms of surface/wing area. Like a flying squirrel that had a wild night out with a bat.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

No..I was thinking it was merely correcting its trajectory and steering.. You are saying it's using it for active propulsion (not gliding, but actual propelled flight) For it to work as a propelling force, there would have to be an abvious sinus-wave present in the motion of the tail. Which I do seem to spot (though high speed slowmo footage would work better for actual observations like these) But my question was... Are you THINKING thats what its doing...or do you have the National Geographics Guide to Calugo's on your desk? A source..be it observation of the video, reading it somewhere, or a background in zoology would be nice so readers know to take something for a fact or a gues...? JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

I wonder what it would/could do if we threw it out of the plane at 12K JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Is that scientific fact or what you personaly think its doing? It looks like its using its tail for continuous trimming/correction to me? JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

I was taking about the 'full daytime replacement' mentioned earlyer.. But I guess this goes more into the feeling/ethics behind photo manipulation.. In case of this photo, I think the defenition of 'fake' would be...can all the people on that photo look at it, and not realise it was changed/altered from the night the picture was taken...if its obvious to them the photo was altered and it doesnt 100% resemble the memory of that event.....its a bad job... Changing it to daytime sounds weird and silly to me.. Its a fine line...just enhancing whats there in the photo, or making up details (grips, formations etc) that didnt really happen as pictured.. I recall the Paragear picture with a flat 4 way with 4 hangers. The orginal picture had a floating cutaway-pad on one of the jumpers. The picture in the final folder had perfect handles on everyone...was that enhancing photo or faking a event... ?? JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Dont you think that goes just a little bit past 'fixing' a photo of a moment/memory, and creating a fake photo of which everyone in it says 'when was that one taken?' JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Yea..thats why I dont like it Though we can never have enough reserve-procedures to explain why hehe.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

PERVERT! Hmm...Ride with Hans in his nice fuel-efficient car with good heating, or ride with Olivers' love machine.. Difficult....what will she choose... He's German Hans..they're always serious about this kinda stuff Pussy! JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

I personaly also dont think Id need anything to hold the grippers tight, but I do have to disagree with the suitdesign being the culprit one in terms of flapping. Ive seen people who can get any suit (arm or legwing) to flap, no matter if its Classic, Phantom, S6 or Mach1. The way people position their arms/legs definately influences the inflation of a suit, outside of how well or poor the inflation of the suit is by design. I was hoping to jump an ankle brace/gripper Ive made past weekend (for ankle docks, as I nearly took some shoes off last time we did those) but sadly the weather didnt cooperate. I'll see if I can snap some pics later this week. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

I sometimes use fog-filters on my video...but not intentional.. I use a cheep UV filter for protection on my stills-cam. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
-
Use the shadow/highlight filter in photoshop. If you combine that with some selective masking of the foreground/background, you could get a okay-ish quality picture out of this, that shows more then the little hint of the opera-house you see in the orginal image.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

I'll be thinking of you guys! Im sadly stuck in Holland, doing tandemvideos all weekend to try and scrape some budget together for wingsuit jumps next month JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

This always happens... I make fun of Yuri..he loves it.. I make fun of james as Robi's mini-me midget helper, and james asks me for a full-res copy...whats wrong with you people Or Im just damn good of course.. I dont have a version bigger then that, as bigger would mean Id have to look into actual numbers and specifics..but if you're a good boy..who knows.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

We'll work on a flowing supply of Stroopwafels for everyone during the contest We havent tried round 5 yet ourselves, so no clue how that one will go. In our training/practice so far, round 1,2,3,4 went quite nice....points getting less with each round (which means our idea behind increasing difficulty per round works) But we wont mention our training scores of course to keep everyone guessing..hehe I wanted to attend Wings over Marl last year already, but I had some scedule problems (the 'sceduled amount of money' wasnt in my wallet anymore when the contest finaly was there) Im definately flopping by for a visit this coming year if I can make it! Docks and backflying is all we ask for.. http://www.wingsuitcompetition.com/jumps.htm Its going to be mighty sweet, and definately a good week of learning for everyone! JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

I jumped a (borrowed) S3 about a year ago, which had the same style loops on the armgrippers. I ductaped them onto the wing after a few jumps, to render them useless, as the loop around my hand made the wing get in the way at pulltime. I already had around 300 wingsuitjumps, without ever really experiencing that, so suddenly having a handfull of nylon on a dozen or so jumps during pulltime scared me. Is the pull still problemfree with this setup? Especialy with the bigger wings I think it could be a potentialy scary thing? Just letting a gripper go for a second, or even flying without holding at all, in the less performance driven flying speeds used for docking/creative flying, doesnt seem to affect my flight all that much? And on a sidenote..any chance at seeing a skyjester team at the wingsuitcomp in april? JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
