An old Classic I/II is also an excelent start, and can be found as cheep as 150 to 200 euros with a bit of luck.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Seeing we live at roughly the same spot on the globe (be it a bit more east on your behalf) you should be able to get 100 or so jumps in between now and the summer..I always do.. Just find a DZ that doesnt mind clouds that much.. And if you want to give wingsuit a serious full on 'go', drop by in Belgium for a long weekend, and we'll gladly take you on some fun formations and help you learn to fly circles around other people (intentional) Cheerio! Just 3 days before the weekend, We were asked to shoot a GS1 for a television item on NBC. Us being media whores, we of course sayd yes, so a GS1 was shipped to us ASAP. A little bit of background (Maria will probably correct me if I say anything that's not completely correct) Jii-Wings is mostly focused on doing some of the actual work they do to pay the rent and make a living. Which is producing costumes/clothing for television and film. Selling commercial wingsuits is (at the moment) not something they are expecting to return to anytime soon. Also as the market is pretty much swamped. But they are still very active in working on some wingsuit stuff. Trying new things that will hopefully amaze/surprise us beyond belief us at some point :) So flashback to friday afternoon. The doorbell rings, and after signing some autographs (didnt know I was THAT famous!) I was the proud owner of a box! After nearly loosing an eye and my pinky trying to remove the 2 tons of tape used to close the box, a big red/white hump of fabric lay there starring at me. So flash forward 2 minutes (the suit does attach to a rig quickly) and picture me running around the house in a wingsuit, watching myself in the mirror and making wussshhhhhh sounds and striking 'the pose' (que Madonna song in the background!) We'll skip the part where I go to sleep in the suit, and flash forward to the next day. The wing on the GS1 goes from the tip of the arm, to the point of the heel. This means that any move you make with your arm/hand, also influences your lower leg. For me this meant, that slightly dipping my right arm to make a left turn, caused my right leg to lift, initiating a left turn. Causing a sideways slip, instead of an actual turn. Id jumped a (TIIIIGHT) fitting GS1 before, and experienced a lot of sideways slip/slide movement in the suit then. This time it was a lot less. But still noticeably there. I think the tight fit of the suit back then made things a bit worse. As for performance. The amount of lift in the suit is amazing. Coming out of a diving turn, slightly braking/flaring I immediately shot upward. And had to really dive to get back down. And the slight issues in turning aside, it flew quite stable, and the big wing wasn't any issue at pulltime. I did notice a slightly lack in forward drive at breakoff. Where I'm normally used to see people fall away underneath/behind me, this time they flew out ahead of me at breakoff, though a lot lower. Slightly 'stally' flight (slow fallrates, but also low forward speed) seems to be what the suit is prone to do when you push it. Though I am interested in seeing what happens when I dive it a bit more. Something I may get back to later, as I intend to try some more jumps on the suit. Flutter/flapping of the wings (arm/tail) seemed to be no issue. Nice inflation. And even backflying (though a bit wobbly) the armwings stayed open nicely without flapping. Should there ever be a future release of the suit, I would like to see the wing stop at the knees, to prevent the suit from flying so 'slippery'. As the little 10 cm wide piece of wing from knee to heel also doesn't add all that much in surface area. And with the suit I had, the cutaway was completely covered by my chest-strap. Having it a bit higher on the chest would be recommendable. All in all I had a lot of fun jumping the suit. Definately a different animal then the one Im used to. And seeing other peoples peformance (especialy in the heaby people/fallrate area) its seemingly capable of some amazing things. There is some video on one of the 2 jumps I made at our website (12 MB). Costyn did a beautiful job at shooting it (2 cameras, one with wide-angle lens, one without). Enjoy... So when can we expect a post saying you should completely remove the buttocks from a SM1 to fly 20 mph sustained JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

I think you have me confused with Purple Mike now And thats still a lot better then the 'men in bottom-less lether pants' Tristan is always browsing the internet for Though I must say his organised collection spanning three harddrives is quite impressive! JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Ive seen (and been on) some skydives from which everyone walked away, but they sure as were not safe.. No comments on the way you handled the jump, just on the way you decided to make it.. I had a good friend who flew wingsuits a lot when I was fresh off the staticline, and I wanted to get into that as soon as I could. Jump number 360 was my first wingsuit jump. Would I have done it in your situation? no.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Is your camera mounted in a Dbox or protective (NeoPrene) cover?? Jumping a camera thats 'out in the open' can (and most often will) cause moisture/wind/cold damage to heads/sensor at some point.. But honestly no clue whats causing this weird image blurring... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Maybe a silly question, but why did you even get on the plane then? Ignoring the whole minimum experience level discussion, why would you do something potentialy dangerous, knowing you dont have the recommended experience, and thinking its a bad idea even before boarding the plane? Your writing style seems to indicate you knew all too well what you were getting into? JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

pull-out itself is definately less then recommendable for a variety of reasons. But most riggers will be able to make you a simple replacable bridle/pilotchute you can just switch. The only downside is that you have to polute your rig with a pouch for the throw-out pilotchute.. dont worry about it..its an easy conversion if and when you want to get into wingsuits JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Jup...flushed down the drain! Started with the first post I think... But man did we have fun or what? So when can we expect an SM1 with ''Jarno is a poopoo-head' embroided on the wings? Preferably on top, so I can read it at break-off.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -
I think its commonly refered to as a 'freefly pud' and in use on a lot of wingsuit-rigs. as long as your openingsystem is throw-out, the actual handle you use doesnt matter much. personaly I actually prefer this type of pud/handle as it much more secure, and less prone to dislodge while moving about in the plane or during backflying. the old hackey/ball can actually cause bridle/pilotchute knotting if the bridle can wrap around the single attachment point/cord between bal/hackey and pilotcute (and has caused quite a few reserve rides in the past) long story short...freefly-pud...a-ok! Heyhey..some new video to entertain you. Its some stuff we did past summer. But it took a while for the TV people to give us a proper version to encode and slap online. Its been (in part) posted before. But this time its accompanied by a new edit, and a subtitled version. So the non Garblish (Dutch) speaking people can understand what we're saying Het Lab TV Show (English Subtitles) Orginal footage Edit with most of the stuff that the TV show cut out. The flyby is a bit steep (dive-by), but its fast and close and made a wonderfull sound (along with my girlish screaming, with doppler effect) For a more in-depth explanation on whats going on, check the SDM descriptions.
