  1. Only if your plane flies backwards..normaly people come out in front of the group, not behind. And regardless of distance..the later divers have more altitude, which translates to more horizontal speed.. 75 to 80% isnt maxed out...thats 100% again...there is a middle ground.. Purple Mike made a great base because he set a consistent speed Consistancy is totaly unrelated to performance levels. But a praiseworthy skill, manditory skill (which I personaly lack) for base flyers in all bigways..As long as a base repeats the flying speed time and time again, the group can learn to adjust and perform better and better to match what the base is doing. If freefliers doing 160 mph on a full load have their divers and floaters be able to carch up, than so should we.. Why everyone is trying to turn this into critique appearantly aimed at the recent bigway baffles me.. Why isnt a discussion possible without it turning into shitting on something someone else has done? The general cry to try and up the overall performance and skill levels...all for it. Specific mentions and trashing of videos/peoples acomplishments...uncalled for... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  2. How does the newbie increase his skills if the skilled guys don't decrease their performance so he can play with them? Is everyone an asshole when it comes to newbies? Are freefalling bigways or solos all they get offered? Whats wrong with 3, 4, 5 ways with flyers all flying with him/her to up their skills, untill the noob is a noob no more, and they can safely fly at skill/accuracy and performance levels needed for bigger stuff? Apples...oranges....black..white...is that all everyone sees here? JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  3. Generally speaking, if you want to have a successful bigway, participants should be in the middle of their comfortable speed range. This applies whatever the discipline. Isnt that exactly what Im saying? Though I do believe 75 to 80% is that comfortable range you talk about. Unless confortable means 'dont work to be there' But they also dont fly with their engines switched off.. And in general dont allow newby pilots with 2 hours logged in their formations where the dangerous stuff happens They also do seperate trainingflights with a coach/trainer to get people up to a certain skill level first... People are now mixing 3 things in this discussion.. Loose flocks, newbies and performance levels.. But guess every discussion needs to have seperate non related issues thrown in to make sure everyone keeps disagreeing.. I to could care less what speed a new flyer is doing when I do an FFC or jusy cruise allong on initial flights. But how is that related to formations not being allowed to fly at a normal speed? More speed makes flying a lot smoother, more controled and a lot longer in term of workingtime. Slow (forward) speeds tend to have people be more busy fight against dropping out, than using their controlls/inputs to fly their slot. Again..there is more possible than all-out-balls-2-the-walls-maxed-out flying, or freefall in a big camerasuit. And people who just keep responding/defending/fighting on the two extremes will never agree.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  4. I actually think, its the attitude change we are seeing in freefly where people are no longer encouraged to fuck around, do mediocre headdown and other scary shit on 4 to 10 ways with other unskilled flyers, just lauging at eachother from a distance, with the occasional accidental kick in the nuts. Most people seriously into coaching and instruction in freefly now focus on the individuals in their group having certain skills, before you're allowed to fly with a bunch of other people etc. And thus, the people who dont want to put the work in, and get their MTV/GoFast lifestyle 10 minute freefly-god speed-course, suddenly get scared away. As they can not go on that 10 way headdown dive, and they can not go on that slotted trackingdive with the guru's who suddenly demand everyone does things within his/her own skills -envelope on a bigway. So now we get those people, and they want to be wingsuit gods, and get into proximity flying, and wingsut bigways at barely 200 jumps. Actually quite a few serious wingsuit flyers I know (and got hooked on nylon myself) had way more jumps. And it also shows in their wingsuit flying skills. Its not about bringing big masses to our discipline. Its about making it safer, and offering more education and strict/firm ideas on what one should and shouldn't do at what skill level. 'a bigway is just a 3 way you fly, with a double dozen other people all around you trying to kill you' is a bit overdone, yet sometimes very true phrase I heard one known FF organizer quote. If a person can not keep up with 10 other people, dont let those 10 adjust to that person, but work with him/her untill he/she is up to the specs of the rest of the group. Compensate by increasing skills, not be decreasing the performance level of others.. And last but not least.. learn there are shades of grey. Too many people get their panties in a bunch, because they only see the two extremes, and bitch at each other for not agreeing with flying 100% legs out, or 0% with legs fully on their ass. Its perfectly possible to fly a tight flock, or have fun play at normal flying speeds. Not total balistic breakoff speeds, but also not reverting back to 60 second freefall from 12k. There's stuff in between the black and white views a lot of people express above here.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  5. Lurch...if you see a post by Yuri, with that title...why even bother clicking/reading it... Its not like you opened his post, expecting songs of love and praise, or did you?? JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  6. It did show that Jeff '7:1 glide ratio' Nebelkopf was flying base initialy in the article, and was probably the one quoting performance.. Thats 10:1 glide ratios! Impressive! Joking aside..amazing flying! p.s. Sorry about the attachment, but couldnt NOT do that one p.s.2 yea yea, I know the media more often quotes thing wrong, than right...but a man can laugh cant he?! 7. I do see it mentioned as a world record everywhere. What happened to the 71 way? JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  8. Yea..these practice jumps, and also the stuff Ive been privilegded to see of the final movie...its going to be an amazing piece of film that we'll see in IMAX 3D at the start of next year. Some mighy, mighty fine flying going on there.. Attached another still from the production.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  9. Now thats what Im talking about! Cool picture, really sweet flying! Awesome work to everyone involved! ps. Hope the logo animation I did for Taya was put to good use JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  10. Neh...not working sadly.. Guess Ill hold of my exitement a bit longer.. would have been nice to see the pictures on wingsuitnews, and general/skydive media everywhere shortly after the record (much like the crew, fs and ff records). But guess there's a reason for the selective release of images...public, yet not public... Shame..think (from what I have seen) this would be more than worthy to get some general exposure. Even if it is thumbnailsize.. Anyways..guess Ill check back later to see if its made it to other media.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  11. Do include a facebook login with that link..still cant be arsed to get an account there.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  12. Cool video! You guys are growing fast as a team (skillswise). Looking forward to seeing you guys in Italy this coming year! And keep shooting/editing videos! See you next weekend!? See attached image for instructions! JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  13. yea...I pooped my pants when I saw that one.. Posted it on www.wingsuitnews.com a few days ago (when it was originaly posted on basejumper.com). Hard-core stuff. Hugging the ground all the way... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  14. Its mostly weird to see see someone with un-proven wingsuit skills at 11 wingsuit flights get a slot, over someone with proven skills who worked his ass of to be there. Surely DSE wasnt the only flyer to show up without pre-registering...? Shame, as in the days leading up to the event, DSE has been the biggest promoter and active poster on the event. Blogging, writing here etc. Phil and Tony showed up in Italy at the WingsuitCompetition without any pre-registration. Nobody even gave it a 2nd thought, and it was 'sweet...come and fly!'. Would have been nice to give DSE that same leeway..especially since EVERYONE knew and expected him to fly.. Sorry if Im beating a dead-horse here...but it just seems rude to exclude a close friend from something like this, with some lame paperwork 'mistake' as a reason. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  15. That looks brilliant...had hoped to read 'here is the formation I was in this morning' from you, knowing how long it took you to get back in the air, and having set this event/formation as your goal for recovery from your accident.. But awesome flying..a few minor beauty treatments and this thing wil be perfect! JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  16. Not at an atomic level, but when looking at a diamond the way its cut, you do look at certain aspects such as the tip, and expect all symetry to be alligned to that one. Having the tip a few inches left of right of the center doest fly there either? JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  17. If you establish a vallue (distance) of a known object in a photo, be it a rig or arm, its not that hard to get close to accurate distance vallues... Be it meters or ft.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  18. I think the most important thing is that (in time) we also try and work towards a minmum distance between flyers. a 4 way diamond flown with an insane and/or even the most irregular spacing, is pretty much deemed a record (small country) in all systems, unless you start measuring absolute distances, and demand an minumum. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  19. But at the same time easier. A 6 way flown with a 1 meter spacing needs to be quite tight. If we fly it with a 400 km spacing, all we have to do is exit at the same time, and ask the NASA people to have Hubble take a snapshot. And all of us will have about 454 km of space to move around, and still be concidered 'in slot'. Even though it will be harder to react to the base (which we dont see). The margin becomes bigger, as the set distance grows. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

  21. Coaches: Alejandro & Jarno June 6 - June 12 1. Andrey Afanasiev (NL/RU) 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. June 6 - June 12 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  22. As fun as it is, but whats the purpoise of uploading airplane flights, aside from further difusing the already muddy concept of the Trackingderby competition? JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  23. Actually, outlandings in Russia are way fun when its an MI8 dropping you... Anyone who's been there knows . Hint: when landing out, grab canopy quick, and hold it TIGHT! JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  24. DSE, your ass doesnt look fat, but there is something screwy going on there JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
  25. The hotel, airport transport and visum arrangements are included in that fee. As is Load organizing for all 30 jumps. With groups per organiser being around 4 to 6 people max, thats an additonal 10 slots you are getting (plus the actual coaching). The coaches dont get on the plane 30 times by looking pretty, and also dont go to Moscow by foot. And someone editing day-videos (dedicated/payd job for someone). And much, much more. Its a fully arranged event. If you want to go somewhere, and just buy jumps. Of course feel free to do so.. I know its costum to expect everything for free, as is most of what we do all year round. But as fun as every event is, its a bit weird sometimes that people expect every coach/instructor to fly to some foreign country, buy flights, buy jumps, give free coaching every day, hand out video/photos etc. And do that all from their own account (we already do that for EmpuriaFlock, and all events we organize every year...) We offer one or two weeks of fun, dedicated coaching/organizing. And offer that (through Tora-Tora) as a fully arranged trip. Nobody is getting ritch. But I hope you understand, untill all coaches/organizers get winning lotery tickets at the events the go to, they do have to try and at least not loose money.. That whole thing aside..everyone will 100% get their money's worth..thats something we always guarantee! JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
