Did I ask you for a gear check?

And that was NOT me! -
When I did AFF, it was 8 levels and on your own. The dz I'm at now doe's AFP and I think that the students leave much more proficient than we did. 2-3 tandems first then 1 jm through your A license and all jumps are video'd. You have the opportunity to almost customize your training as you progress. I am a firm believer in doing a learning tandem first if you decide on AFF. Good luck!

Quote Since these are not in any way "official" records, define them how you like. Biggest formation ever completed in a state. Biggest formation completed by residents of a state. Biggest formation completed by blue-eyed redheads in a state. You forgot; Biggest formation by blonde muffed babes in a state! (Verification required.) and yes I'm the judge

nac, It's still there.

Nice paint job!!!!!!!!

Actually I think you needed about a bizzillion of those scattered all around on burnt ground for a more realistic pic

Was that jumptown's otter before the jump door was installed?

The PAC has great STOL and slow flight ability. With its Otter-sized door, ability to only need 6-7 to make money and a year of free maintence and free maintence training its a nice option for Otter sized DZ's to look at as their planes age. Awful hard doin' 20 ways out of them though! -
Most Wings jumpers that I know went with spandex.
-
John, You're just not right.
-
Yes and not 2 shaby considering they won intermediate last year. Also silver in 8way int. is Trey Copeland, I'm not sure what name he uses here
-
IMHO, You can go to 5 different DZs and come away with 5 different perseptions of jumpers. Free fliers are like snowboarders and RW jumpers are like skiers.

hmm...i have a problem with mommy

Never said a word until after my tandem, showed them the video and they thought it was cool that I survived once! Didn't tell them about AFF until I had a couple of solos. My dad was happy after I quit after 4 AFF jumps. Started back 2 years later. He said after I had 50 jumps that I had proven that I could do it. Again after 100,200,300,400 then he came out and watched me at the Texas state record 125way, talk about shocked seeing 125 people tracking away. Now on mondays he just asks if I got plenty of jumps in over the weekend. Now with over 1570 jumps in 3 years my mom comes to the dz about every other month to watch. I think that they finally figured out that it's a life wish not a death wish. Get her to go to the dz with you to spectate. Heck have her introduce herself here and discuss HER fears. -
Quote One of the canopy manufactuers rep said here on dropzone that the difference in steady state airspeed between one canopy and another of a similar size isn't that great, even if they are of vastly different designs. sorry but they were FOS The design parameters like line trim that control what pitch ( and speed ) the canopy flies at and others that effect how fast it turns, what altitude is lost in a turn and the speed during and following the turn could be very different. Just as how far and deep a canopy dives and how it recovers from a dive that define a design. Have you never flown a really(loaded) HP crossbraced canopy? I have flown in tight formations ( no contact crew )made up of docile 7-cells, HP 9-cell ellipticals and ground hungry x-braced of similar but not exacting size and once we were at steady state similar glide paths the airspeeds were very close. And the X-braced was in deep brakes while the others were in full flight?
-
my canopy in full glide passes other canopies like they are standing still and i'm losing altitude like no tommorrow! Only in brakes(me) do we fly relative under canopy!
-
GPS will give you ground speed. If you fly into the wind, then downwind and average the two, you'll get your airspeed. That's what I meant. you said airspeed and I think you meant ground speed!
-
Derek, The ground speed would change going up or down wind but your airspeed would remain the same because of the relative wind would it not? QuoteGPS will give you ground speed. If you fly into the wind, then downwind and average the two, you'll get your airspeed.

Throwing yourself out of an airplane,2 1/2 miles up, plummeting towards Mother Earth @ 120mph is completely normal! You've had the instincts in you from birth! It's fear that keeps us alive.

I was holding it 2' out in front of my face.
-
Just 1 and yes held straight out in front of my face. I don't know if it would have read differently if I would've angled it down at my angle of attack.
-
I'm not really sure on my Xaos 27-83' (2.3/1) but seems like rears work really well full glide. Interesting note though. With the brakes still set I can fly right along side a Triathlon 190 at 1.0/1 losing no less altitude than he does.
-
Interesting conversation. I took a wind meter up Sunday because someone wanted to compare there reading with mine. My Xaos 27-83'(2.29/1) in full flight was reading 30mph pointed straight ahead without taking into effect the angle of attack(which I'm not sure mattered). He flies a very conservative wing load, maybe 1.1/1 Triathlon or Sabre and said he got a reading of 25mph. That seems awfull close to me. Any comments?
