I've got about 3 weeks left in my current job and I'm mentally out already. Right now I'm waiting for a plane to Venezuela for a week of work that is going to suck balls, then going to Colombia for two weeks of trying to kill time because the equipment I'm supposed to go to work on there isn't going to make it in time, then back to Mexico to pack up my shit and go start a new life. It's gonna be a long 3 weeks, but I'll be sooooo glad when it's over

:8:2 Took a weekend away from the GF to go jumping. 8 great skydives that included my first time jumping at Skydive Temple (but it sure as fuck won't be the last, those guys are FUN)! Also I saw myself in Parachutist for the first time

I got two jumps at Skydive San Marcos yesterday, 5 jumps at Skydive Temple today, just checked into a hotel for some ZZZs and a good shower and driving back to Mexico in the manana. Might swing back to Skydive Temple for one last jump on the way out

Did an accident shake your confidence?
lippy replied to Xtine's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I busted my ass a while ago and I had some mixed feelings about getting back, but it's what I wanted and so I did it. From your post you make it clear that you love the sport, but also that you're concerned of the dangers. Knowing those two things, you need to make a personal decision about whether or not to come back. For your situation, do you think the 9 month layoff was a big factor in the accident? Do you think that you can come back to the sport and dedicate the time and the money you need to avoid another 9 month layoff, which would therefore decrease the likelihood of another accident? You say that you know what you did wrong on that jump...If you do decide to come back, my advice would be to think about what you did wrong, but don't over-think it. Analyze your mistakes and make a plan to avoid them in the future, but don't dwell on them. That will only serve to psych yourself out. I had to wait 13 weeks between my accident and convincing the DZO that I could land a student rig on one leg. I had some nerves in the plane, but I shut the needless worry out of my head and focused on what I had to do to get myself to the ground safely. After a while I completely forgot the needless worry, but I never lost a healthy respect for the ground. I hope you make the decision that's best for you! If nothing else, come back because we need more boobies in the sky I got nuthin -

Dude I don't wanna be a gear Nazi, and this subject's already been beat to death (do a search on 'instrument dependence'), but please DON'T come back into the sport with 8 jumps and metal in your leg thinking that the solution to avoiding another crash is to 'wait for a beep'. Get you sight picture dialed in...PERIOD. Your training is what you use to line up your approach, and if you have an instructor on radio helping you than that will be a serious bonus, but the last thing you need is to start depending on a beep to know when you should start a 300' final approach. But hey, I'm just some random guy on the internet, what do I know? I got nuthin -

Pussy. I think my wife was front float on that one and she hung on There was a guy in front float, and he wasn't all the way up and using the flap lever to keep himself up...That's why he started sliding backwards and eventually pushing the guy behind him, and the girl behind him......up until the rear float fell off. I got real big and hoped they'd leave real shortly after I did, but I think I had a 10 second delay before they jumped. I turned around and tracked up jump run I got nuthin

The Xmas boogie at Eloy last year was another good one. We were a 34ish-way, Skyvan as lead and Otter as tail. I was rear float on the Otter. Yellow light comes on and people start yelling GOGOGOGOGO...Climbout! I was behind the vidiot who was getting out to take camera step and couldn't see outside, but I could see the camera guy (super experienced Eloy local) telling them it wasn't time. After a while the vidiot got sick of hearing them yell and he got out, and we all followed. I think we were six in the door of the Otter, I was rear float and I held on for one minute and 54 seconds before I didn't have the strength anymore and started my solo from 15K. I got nuthin

After growing up on C-182 DZs in Canada I moved south and was lucky enough to call Skydive Dallas my home DZ. Sven and Eddy are the best pilots a jumper can ask for. One day back when SDD still had a 182, the clouds were low and we went up for home H-n-Pops. I'll never forget the guy sitting next to the door. When we got to about 3K and Eddy opened the door, the guy never even looked out. He looked at Eddy, asked if he was good to jump, Eddy said OK and he did. Eddy is one of the all-around best jump pilots I know and I'd trust him if he told me it was safe to get out of a plane, but after spending so much on Cessna DZ's I couldn't believe seeing somebody not even bother to look before jumping I got nuthin

1800'. A few months ago I had that number in my mind while I had my alti in front of my face and my right hand behind me pulling at that the bridle of a PC-in-tow. Got it out by 2500'

I assume that the walk-through types have transmitter coils to induce the currents and receiver coils which activate the alarm when a certain level of change in the pickup from the transmitters is observed. The wand styles would just have a transmitter coil and activate the alarm when a noticeable change in the tx current is noted. Obviously it's more complex than that, but I'd imagine that the basic concept is something along those lines. I got nuthin

A plate and 12 screws in my right tib from when I used my Mad Skillz to swoop into the side of a parked C-182. Not titanium though: My insurance was shit, I got some rusty iron that they found in an old shipyard. I've only set off one walk-through metal detector, that was in Cartagena Colombia. The wand-style ones go off if I pass them over my leg. I got nuthin
