  1. IMHO, one of the best things about this sport is the people. I work in the oil patch, and spend my week-days with a lot of people who (generally), aren't that bright, and think I'm nuts for jumping. One of the things I like about the people in this sport, is that all of them have made a decision to take the thrill of the sport over the danger involved, and aren't concerned with 'what if my chute doesn't open'. If the danger was no longer there, we'd have many, many more stupid people in the sport, which would add to the politics/stupid situations on the DZ, and take a damb big chunk out of the fun of it. The thrill of jumping for me is the life-style, not the danger, but I'm not too sure I'd like what the sport would become if any old moron were in it. I got nuthin

    Balloons

On the subject, are there any baloons operating on a regular basis at Eloy. There's a link to a baloon company's website from skydiveaz.com, but I couldn't get too much info from the site. If they are there, what's it cost? I got nuthin

Just finished off my last Canadian. MmMm good. I forget who's sig this used to be, but I ain't seen it in a while and it's worth repeating: 'When participating in sporting events, its not whether you win or lose, but how drunk you get' -Homer Simpson I got nuthin

  6. Just curious Bill, do you mean Cypres specifically, or just some kind of AAD, (FXC 12000). In the 4 DZs I know in Alberta, one of them has a student Cypress on one rig, and the rest are 12000s. I agreee that Cypreses would be better, but they just aren't economically feasable in a lot of cases. I got nuthin
  7. Yeah, what they said. Winter's a great time to put together a rig, cause generally you're spending less on jumps. Best advice I can give you is to demo some canopies. Talk to instructors, coaches, experienced jumpers and figure out what kinda canopy you wanna fly. Then start offering beer to people who own canopies comparable to what you wanna fly. I got nuthin
  8. We all know the standard firsts for which one buys beer: First freefall, first mal, first point.... Wondering what kinda weird things people have bought beer for? This year I biffed hard on a night jump, and picked up a case for first catscan. Who's got some more? I got nuthin

  10. Why don't you move to Alberta and find something to bitch about. At Edmonton Skydive Center, if its warmer than 14 they jump. T-shirt, sweats, jumpsuit and gloves is all we need. But if you wanna wear a mask, take a ski-mask and some plastic guns. Makes for good video I got nuthin
  11. A guy at my DZ made himself a 25. It was a model of a design he hoped to implement on a reasonable size (still sub-hundred) canopy. It was deployed from a mister bill, while Jason held onto the risers, and the base of the mister bill held onto the grocery bag the canopy was in. He said it was so much fun he didn't wanna let go in time to dump his 96. Other than that, the smallest I've seen is a Icarus Xtreme 69. The DZO at my old DZ jumped it, but got rid of it b/c 'it had a built in turn'. He was just scared though I got nuthin

  17. Don't know the mileage. It's about an hour on the greyhound, and anywhere between an hour to three hours thumbing it. When I bought a rig instead of a car, I didn't realize I'm the only skydiver in this freakin town. I got nuthin

  20. I don't have too much to say that ain't already been said. This was my first season to really skydive. I rediscovered the sport by changing dropzones, and in a way re-discovered the people in it. I think the best way to say how skydiving has changed my life, is that I'm seriously, seriously freaking out that the season will soon be over, and I'll have nothing to do every weekend, besides save money for skydiving in '03.
