  1. i think everybody got to experience an off airport landing from the purple otter that weekend. levin grat#40 vSCR#pending
  2. did you get to see my cow swoop from san marcos. if not i'll show you this weekend. there was like 20 cows packed together in this tight little herd and this skydiver dude in red and yellow with a white fx swooped in and landed right next to them screaming mooo. i kited my canopy running after them screaming mooo, mooo, mooo. i was able to hang for a few steps but then they stampeded away. it was definetly worth the walk across 2 fields and 3 fences to get back to the dz. levin grat#40 vSCR#pending
  3. [qoute]Heard this weekend that it cost 20 bucks to jump the Otter up there. Is this true? One or two jumps is ok but when you make 10, even 20 jumps that adds up quick, plus 30 bucks for a boogie fee. Ouch, not much of a boogie, I go to boogies for discounted jumps not inflated ones. it's true. but regardless of the high $$$ jump tickets we have to go for the headdown record. it's going to take all of us to make it happen. but unfortunately due to the high cost of jumping at dallas i'm going to be limited to about 6 or 7 jumps. so i'll only be there for one day. any idea which day we'll be doing the bigways? levin grat#40 vSCR#pending
  4. waller is having a make 5 jumps in one day and get a 6th one that same day for free deal this weekend. that averages out to $15 a jump. bryan (imgr2), ramon and i will be organizing freefly loads and giving free coach jumps. we are planning on a couple of double tube dives for friday and saturday. that is if i can find my tube which happens to be laying out in the stix right now, but i have a good idea where it is. we are also planning on some hybrid dives and maybe a vSCR dive. hope to see you all this weekend. levin grat#40 vSCR#pending

    Top 5 freefly suits

firefly is my favorite and seems to be the most popular right now. mine has 400+ jumps on it and has been washed about 30+ times. although it has faded a bit i think i'll get another 400 to 500 jumps out of it. it's mostly double layered and has three layers of fabric in some areas. plus shelly has these suits dialed in. if you are unsure about the length and cut that you need she can tell you what's best for you. you won't need to ask a million skydivers their opinions. if the prices haven't changed i believe you can get a basic 3 color suit for $250. or if you want something totally custom then you can draw and color it on paper and they will build it. their customer service is great. http://www.fireflysuits.com levin grat#40 vSCR#pending
  6. for me leaning sideways at the waist or legs or both seems to work best. not sure if it makes a difference but i usually fly some variation o a daffy you might also try experimenting with a carve. i usually do that with a tilt at the shoulders. levin grat#40 vSCR#pending

    Wisdom Teeth

i broke one of my wisdom teeth on a mcdonalds sausage and egg mcmuffin last monday. there was something hard in the suasage and bit down right square on it. i had it yanked last wednesday. i think the experience has helped me get over my phobia of the dentist somewhat. i told him i was scared and he had to take it easy or something. he said no problem and gave me two deadner shots. then pulled it to the right, pulled to the left and yank, out it came. the whole thing was over in 3 minutes. i felt like such a baby. plus i got a little perscription of vicoden to help with pain. since i bought them a subscription to skydiving magazine the last time i was there for a check up, it was pretty cool reading the july issue in the waiting room instead of some dum golf magazine. my mouth is still a little soar but i don't think i will have any problems jumping. i'm on my way to spaceland in just a few minutes, so we'll see. levin grat#40 vSCR#pending
  9. yah, i remember. ouch. that incident was totally minor, yet we learned a big lesson from it. won't happen again. hasn't happened since.

  13. where i'm from (athens, tx) there are about a dozen people who own and fly powered parachutes on a regular basis. i made my 108th skydive out of one from 4k. it took 18 minutes to climb. it was definetly cool. like sitting on a chair in the air. on another occasion i got to ride in one for about hour. spent most of the time chasing deer on the ground and flying amongst the 5 others that were in the air also. the people that fly them though don't seem to be very interested in ppcrw. according to FAR part 103 an aircraft to qualify as an ultralight it must have an empty weight of 254lbs or less. most 2 seater powered parachutes weigh more than 254lbs. instead of raising the weight limit of FAR part 103 to include heavier 2 seater ultralights the FAA released the sport pilot/sport aircraft notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM docket FAA-2001-11133). the sport pilot license is a simplified license requiring no medical exam for simplified aircraft. aircraft that are included in this license are factory and homebuilts including land and sea planes, gliders, balloons, gyroplanes (but not helicopters), weight-shift-control aircraft, and powered parachutes. sport aircraft are limited to 1232 pounds gross weight, two seats and a maximum of 115 knots flying level under full power. just as with other categories of pilot licenses, sport pilots will be required to undergo ground and flight instruction and an instructor log book entry. the sport pilot's license may require as few as 20 hours of training. restrictions include flying only day VFR, flight only from non-tower airports (unless endorsed for tower operations by a flight instructor), a maximum of one passenger, and flight in an approved "sport aircraft." http://www.sixchuter.com/ http://www.summitppc.com http://www.kitplanes.com also check out ebay and the aero trader levin grat#40 vSCR#pending
  14. i also disagree with that advice. however for those that do learn those belly skills first may find them beneficial later on down the road. for example the hybrid dives that we have been doin lately. they require everbody (including freeflyers) to be on their belly for 1/3 - 1/2 the dive. we have been taking 4-way belly base out followed by the hangers diving first followed by the stingers last. the hangers flying on their bellys dock on the 4-way, take chest strap grips and then stand it up. the stingers have to fly their slot on their belly behind the person they are going to dock on. regardless of how good a freeflyer you are, if you cannot fly your slot on your belly you are not invited. another example would be the new uspa 3-d millineium award or whatever it's called. so point is belly skills, although not neccesary for freeflying, can be a plus to have. levin grat#40 vSCR#pending
  15. can anybody tell me how to edit a post? there is post in the freefly forum i want to edit but when i try it says error: cannot edit post. i also had this same problem trying to delete a post that was moved from the freefly forum to the talk back forum. i pm'd this question to sangiro a week ago but haven't heard anything. so if anybody can help me out i'd appreciate it. thanks, levin

not much larger means your larger but not much larger. 215 is faster but not much faster. maybe you're just faster but not much faster cuz you're larger but not much larger. maybe i'll take my pet rock with me next time levin grat#40 vSCR#pending

fat asses. i can't seem to break 200. my fastest recorded speed is still 195mph. :0(
  18. i think this advice is questionable. until you learn a stable sit, going to your belly to stop an unintentional spin may be the best thing to do. as soon as you develop a stable sit break the belly habit immediately. don't get in the air with more than one other person until you have broken that habit. levin grat#40 vSCR#pending

actually, yes, i did. i just got thru watching videos again for the first time since after the jump. paying particular attention to trey since he thought i left him out, i watched him dock last turning our 9-way into a 10-way. the 10 way only held for 3 seconds. but everybody on it held an 8-way for at least 5 seconds. sorry trey. honest mistake. i thought you only had it for a second. i remember you telling me afterwards that you weren't happy with your flying on that dive. so i really didn't think you got in. didn't mean to leave you out. here's a corrected list of the participants 01.greg bowles (belly) 02.cindy ? (belly) 03.larissa ? (belly) 04.rob ? (belly - 80 jumps. first bigway) 05.jesse hale (hanger - organizer) 06.katrina (hanger) 07.stevie boyd (headdown stinger) 08.trent alkeck (sitfly stinger) 09.levin (headdown stinger) 10.trey copeland (headdown stinger)

there's one at spaceland that did 167mph on his stomach. i can say that for a fact since i was in the air with him when he did it. i actually floated on him for second while headdown. hookit spocked him headdown. it was a cool jump. he's our first round draft pick for hybrid dives. levin grat#40 vSCR#pending

    Funky Exits?

that one was not totally your fault. in fact i have to accept full blame for that one. often it isn't one thing but a series of things that leads to a dive going bad. in this case 2.) dave your legs were a little to high causing a slight vertical fluxuation in the formation. 3.) zennie and ramon failed to get it tight by letting there arms out to far. but i think the key ingredient to that dives failure was 1.) the load organizer, me, was in the pro shop bullshitten instead of outside dirt diving. i'll never forget the look on zennie's face trying to hold that dive together. it was like a little kid high on extasy riding a mechanical bull and somebody flipped the lever on full speed. lol levin grat#40 vSCR#pending

absolutely. that's two dave's for the next one. there are also a handful of other dz.comers that need it as well. pippy, rachel, ramon, hookit, jim alceck, zennie and some others. would be cool to knock out a vSCR and a dz.com record on one dive. we'll see this weekend. levin grat#40 vSCR#pending
