i'm at spaceland 11th thru 17th. hope to see some other freeflyers come out if yall can get away from work. the otter will be flying all week. M-F i'll be there for coach jumps if anybody is interested. slot+pack. i wouldn't make anybody pay for the packs, but my canopies are new and i don't want to pack them. hope to see freeflyers there. also anybody in area with a wingsuit. there's a couple of us at spaceland.

Crossbraced and Airlock in one canopy ?????????????????????????????
Levin replied to rhino's topic in The Bonfire
Icarus claimed in their initial 3 page ad for the FX a few years ago that they experimented with crossbraced airlocked canopies. if i remeber correctly they did not go that route because of excessive pack volume and the added performance wasn't worth the added effort and cost to make one. Personally i would never buy an airlocked canopy for two reasons. 1. they stay partially inflated after a cut-away. a little breeze can carry them a little ways. i've seen it twice. 2. just in case i crash in the pond. those airlocks hold water just as well as air. i wonder what draining a crossbraced airlock canopy would be like. maybe not any worse. but it may be enough for a competitor to miss the next round. maybe that's why you don't see to many at the swoop meets. -
never heard of anybody else doing this. you can fly circles around bellyflyers and tandems with the classic. not sure about the skyflyer. push your chest out and keep arms out but high and behind you. 100+mph vertical fallrate is no problem. but because of forward speed all you can do is fly in circles. i wouldn't recommend it on anything more than a 2-way.

i think the tube/birdsuit case was a matter of convenience. It's a pain walking to the door with a tube tied to your feet, and it's a little easier to hook it up in the back of the plane. I haven't been to a dz where wingsuit flyers get out first. i really don't think it would be a problem if they did. at most turbine dz's the wingsuit flyers fly a pre-determined flight path that starts out perpendicular to the line of flight. i prefer to get out last so that i can do whatever w/ out having to worry so much about a flight path and usually hovering around 8-9000' while the enitire load is under canopy.

that's cool. do you know if was a skyflyer or a classic

do you know how it went?? i was thinking about trying that.

actually i have seen this in the air. now this has been awhile back, but kyle trailed both toggles between his legs while he was headdown in stradle position (of course the story doesn't stop there). reason it happened is because his velcro was shot. rigs are like cars in a way. you have to keep up the maintanence. just basic things like rubber bands, closing loops, kill lines, re-lines, untwisting steering lines, repacks, clean cables, straight pins and in the case of racers, velcro. imo, the NOS is fine for freeflying. i jump the older version with the velcro riser covers. i have never had any problems with it. the new version has tuck tabs and is very secure. this is also a very comfortable rig. imo, the 2000 elite is not so freefly friendly. it has open risers covers. so whenever this model rig is presented to the air the risers are exposed. and when headdown can sometimes lead to a riser around your arm. i have one of these models with a spectre120. so i use this rig for when i am jumping a tube. the velcro on this rig is in good shape. i have no problems with this rig at slower airspeeds. lately i have been jumping this rig while i get my newly healed broken ankle ready for the fx again. i get a riser around the arm (usually right side) about 1/3 of the time at higher speeds. if i loose sight of somebody and have to break off into a back track then it's pretty much a guarantee. trick is to catch it around the elbow so that it doesn't get under your arm. don't think this is racer only problem. i've seen it a few times on javelins. a good example for everybody would be the guy on the 'chronic' team on chronicles3. he has a riser around his arm as he spins before break off. if you have a racer 2000 elite and want to use it for freeflying i recommend not using it. if that is not an option then i recommend getting a pair of new snap risers from jump shack. they have a tab on them that only allow the snap toggle to be released by a downward motion. pretty secure. jump shack also has a riser cover mod that they can do. it's just anouther flap to cover the risers all the way. i got it on one of my past elite 2000's. problem was that the extra bulk made it hard to close the riser covers. and after just a little wear the velcro on top would not hold them closed all the time. so in summary the elite 2000 is no good and the NOS is no worries. blue skies napoleon

okay i'm over it. actually i've been over it. even though i said goodbye for good, what i really meant translated in levin was i have 3 test early next week. therefore i have something better to do than sit here and read all this. i know i shouldn't have gotten pissed but i spent an hour on that post and you zapped it in 2 seconds flat. and since rgoper's went untouched i just got alittle upset because, well...i didn't get the last word. i know that is kinda childish but rgoper did say i was young. so :0P sorry for misbehaving. but after all this i plan to refine most of my post/reply's to the freeflying forum. and i also hope that ann will cheer up and come back as well. she shouldn't have left. hell, she'll probably sleep it off. worked for me. napoleon

this might get deleted before anybody sees it...but here goes. i tried to make a reply to rgoper but it was deleted because the moderater thought it has gone on long enough. the first sentence of that reply said this is my last post on the topic no matter what. my reply was not at all hostile or vulgar. it was in good taste. since i was new here i spent a few hours researching rgoper's past post to learn as much about his charcter as i could before i made a reply. guess i didn't reply quick enough. if i can not defend myself from a personal attack (even if reply is in good taste) from a person that is repeatedly allowed to make them then i am not going to spend my time in this forum. so this is goodbye to all. and to richard the groper thing was a typo. groper sounds more like a word to me than rgoper. my mistake. well goodbye to all. see ya at the dz's. napoleon

first off i want to apologize to groper for flaming him so bad. i just started really spending time reading this forum when the carbone threads started. i'm still figuring out how all this works. i just figured out the PM's. i had 12 dating a month back. didn't mean to ignore everybody. also just figured out thread view. wish aol had that for rec. when i looked in thread view it looked like i was on a serious rant (now i get the "get the guy a beer" comment). i hadn't read the entire thing so i was counter attacking as i went. i should have read it all first and made one post. so to groper, sorry for continuosly flaming you. as far a dz bashing goes. if you have not witnessed or do not have factual information regarding specific far and bsr violations at a particular dz then do not post hear say to a news forum. it is unfare to the dzo and it does not always go without consequence. i want to use two possible examples from the october issue of skydiving magazine to help make my point. anyone that reads rec. remember the numerous bashing threads on atlanta skydiving center months ago. an article was published about dz just shortly afterwards. on page 18 is an article titled georgia dz's promotional efforts attract criticism. basically it is a controversial article about their marketing technique using multiple domain names and search engines to attract new studens from a broader area. they wre also cited for numerous false claims on their website. does anyone think it might be possible for the writer to have gotten the idea for this story from reading rec? now the second example just happened to be in the same magazine. otherwise i wouldn't dare have used it. on page 17 michael hawkes bans experienced jumpers from his dropzone. it has been known that he does not want us there. does anybody think it i possible that he may have written that to pu a final end to all the rants about him on rec. jumpers are not the only people that read these news groups. they are also read by non jumpers, faa and who ever else may be interested. how do you think it looks to a faa or non jumper to click on that thread and find accusations of multiple far violations, people flying thru props, people hooking it in and flying cameras without a license looks. all this in one thread pointing at one dz. and 2 of these are definety incorrect. these people do not know that flying cameras without a license is misinformation and the prop incident was at another dz. it just sounds dangerous and against the rules to them. and to new jumpers; if you suspect that a dzo is doing something wrong then i sugest yo 1.) get an opinion from a seasond jumper or somehigher up 2.) learn as much as you can about the situation before you bring it to a public forum. for example if you do not know whether or not a license is required to fly a camera, then you probably do not know enough about this sport to pass judgement on a dzo and discredit him publicly. hooknswoops case is a little different. this person knows the dzo and worked at the dz since close to day one as head instructor. this person tried to take his case to the uspa before bringing it this forum. i do not disagree with what he did, but i definitely don't like what he did. but he is in a position to make these claims. and he alone. and if the dzo is guilty then it may be fixng to come back and bite him in the butt. i hope not. and i hope people take note on how the misinformation of others jumping on this bandwagon tied to it the incident at san marcos and could have incited a spin off on camera flying. as far as this dzo goes, i have known him for several years. heis a business man and he runs a business. imo, a first class business at that. i think it is unfortnate that some of his employees have left on bad terms. whoevers fault it may be. but in other fields of business people in management positions do not or should not hire their friends to work for them. in skydiving you often don't have a choice. just for the record this dzo has been in this business for about 11 yrs. his dz's have seen few injuries and no fatalities.

i think if he doesn't trust yall with it by your selves, then he should at least take yall tandem with it. ;0)

***Actually he has been around more than a year, closer to 2*** thanks kelli. i rest my case.

i remember you telling me about him now. but i don't believe i know him or really anything about him. fwiw, personally i have nothing against him. he's probably just a yearling (my intention is not name calling) with

i went and read back thru my post. i can't see where i directly engaged in name calling. scottbre cited me for two personal attacks. the first may have been passive name calling but i didn't mean it like that. there's a difference between being a coward and acting like one. i did not call this person a coward. as far as my second citation, that was mearly just an obeservation. but if you see somewhere that i directly engaged in name calling i'd like to see it. and again if i did, i apologize to anyone that i may have offended.
-
did i engage in name calling? i don't thik i did, but if so then i apologize to whoever may have been offended. and regarding my post to groper, do not read them with a mean tone. i am calm and casual. not irate.

oh yah. and guess what...i did a RW jump sunday in my gripper suit. it was fun and you missed it. :0P

i wanted a sabre120 right off student status so i could have smaller rig, but steve made me get a sabre150 loaded at .9 instead. i never did thank him for that.
-
cool. that's the only way i'm doing it as well. and i really don't want to do it by myself. HEY SCOTTY or TAMMI, if yall are reading this, how much longer will yall be at spaceland? i probably cannot make it this weekend but will be there the next.
-
there's no imposter. i wasn't trying to be evil. i was just reading along the thread and i came to his post. so i put in my .02 cents in and read on. only i came to another and another. maybe i should have read the whole thing first and got him all at once. but remember you have to read all my post with a calm and casual voice. maybe a little strearn, but don't read them with anykind of a mean tone. i didn't right them with one. i was just casually puttin him in his place.
-
it's lookin like i probably won't be thee this weekend. got 3 test next monday and tuesday. but how about the next weekend. i think scotty will still be there. if he is then i'l do it. if not then no way am i doin it. yall'd have to catch me and hold me down.
-
yah. he did the same to me under my alpha. he was there and then he was gone. i barely saw it coming. it was cool.
