So when you use rears do you hold the rears till there is almost no more juice and stab the toggles or make a transition to toggles sooner in the swoop to avoide the stab at the end? I have seen it done both ways and I am curious to know which is more efficient for the length and speed, and why people do it both ways. I figure jsut because of the aerodynamics of it holding the rears and stabbing at the end may go further, my logic is because you wouldnt be changing the shape in the airfoil until you have already used all of what it has to offer, but I guess if the canopy design has really well slow peed toggle flight characteristics it may be better on the toggles... for those of you out there that do use rears what do you do and why? -yoshi _________________________________________ this space for rent.

absolutely. although many wouldnt think it to be safe for me, I have aquired training under adequate supervision and instructors. I realize and accept the risk. Thanks for the concern everyone, but lets get back to the matter at hand -yoshi _________________________________________ this space for rent.

standing on your head on the ground is just going to hurt your head:) I may help in some sort of way, but would say that standing in front of a mirror imitating what you see in hd fliers is much better. that will get the muscle memory without all of the blood rushing to your head! do whatever you want, as long as the people you jump with know what you are planning on doing and are compentant enough to stay out of your way, or if you go solo.... try it all. hell if you go solo try a hd jump the whole way... (keep alit aware!) and dont slide into others airspace.... have fun and never stop learning! -yoshi _________________________________________ this space for rent.

ffdrew: yes I do have 383 jumps and I do fly a crossfire 2 111 loaded at 1.8. I did buy the canopy brand new and I jumped similar canopy size (even smaller) with the manufacturer present (when I demoed them) and under the "supervision" of 2 S&TA's at my dz. My situation has been discussed on here before, and flame away if you desire. The post was not about me, or my ability to do it safely, it was about the characteristics of the flight durring the swoop while using rear risers. If you wish to discuss my wing load and ability post another thread and I would be happy to talk about it. -yoshi _________________________________________ this space for rent.

yeah I have 383 jumps to date. I have progressed a little faster than most, and faster than most would suggest (even myself) Why would you say be careful with rears with a non crossbraced canopy? I do have swoop and watched plenty of footage in "canopy training". I know that most of the swoop comes from the approach and the smooth flight thru the swoop, but if I can add some feet to the distance (which I feel, and told, I am doing pretty well at now) it would be nice. I still dont get why you would be more careful on a non crossbraced canopy with rears than one with crossbraces...I have got about 15-20 rear riser landings on my crossfire 2 and havent had and real problems persay...jsut learning where it actually planes out and the "squishyness" of the feel thru the swoop, I have also dont one landing on it with no toggles at all just using rears... granted I still had a bit of speed and if the grass wasnt a little wet I wouldnt have slid quite as well to bleed off that last 5 mph or so:) anyways... thanks for the reply -yoshi _________________________________________ this space for rent.

Ok so I have about 15-20 swoops now working with rear risers. this is my ??: When you use rears do you hold them down to the last minute and jab the toggles, or make a transition while you will have speed to get surf on rears and toggles... I did one this weekend that was pretty nice but skygod7777 told me I wshould have let out of the rears and switched to toggles before I bled enough speed off only to jab it at the end. Do you get a further swoop if you transition to toggles mid swoop or wait until the end to jab 'm??? thanks for the input -yoshi _________________________________________ this space for rent.

Can someone give me a little advice please :)
Yoshi replied to Dracmyster's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
wellnot quite sure how it is there.. here if you are packing for other people you should technically have a rigger "oversee the operation", and you dont need a packing licence persay. Once you have been cleared to jump your own gear you can pack it and jump it (the main of course you cant pack the reserve unless you have a riggers ticket) well thats the gist of it anyways.. anyone else out there feel free to correct me on anyting I may have mis-stated I had one of my buddies pack my rig and he has never jumped before... I was there the whole time and watched him do it, should have seen the look on his face when I threw the rig on and went to the plane..."you're not really gong to jump that are you?" he stated. he thought I would undo it and repack it... nice opening though:) -yoshi _________________________________________ this space for rent. -
Ringed harness / weight shifts under canopy
Yoshi replied to SkydiveMonkey's topic in Gear and Rigging
I would say that it doesnt do much (especially if you loosen the chest strap). I have fully articulated harness and I can get quite a response out of my harness.... jsut my 2 cents, but I love the articulation and wouldnt have a rig without it.. -yoshi _________________________________________ this space for rent. -

well dont know about there, but I have know a handfull of cats that knew how to pack befroe thier first jumps. got paid for it too. I would say sure give it a run, if people are hesitant about you packing for them, just dont pack for anyone jsut do it for "fun". (although I doubt you will hear of many skydivers that call packing fun:) -yoshi _________________________________________ this space for rent. -
so you are going to come to the richmond boogie? Its a blast.. just remember to look me up and Ill do a jump or 10 with ya I might be working again this year for richmond and I may be the demo rep for icarus there..just depends i have to get in contact with simon again but we talked about it a little while ago.. -yoshi _________________________________________ this space for rent.

I am pretty sloppy sometimes with my pack jobs.. (knock on wood) they have been pretty decent. sometimes (every 15 or so jumps) I do a real slow pack job and inspect everything top to bottom... I usually have better openings with the fast sloppy pack jobs! go figure..:) -yoshi _________________________________________ this space for rent.

dont have one dont want one. I jsut a hp canopy and leave myself time for my hard deck vs opening alti (also have a cypress) and if I get a nasty spinner I dont want to be on my back when the reserve is comming out.. if I jumped a larger canopy I would use it... -yoshi _________________________________________ this space for rent.

think of your body in a "T" position the faster stand you need from there you can go more to a "Y" position. you will prob feel a little more squishy when you try it at first but it will get easier the more you do it.. -yoshi _________________________________________ this space for rent.

it could cause a toggle to release if it came down with that much force.. I have slinks and have only had a toggle come out on opening on 2 jumps (not my rig either).. now when I am watching my crossfire dance and while I steer the opening I make sure that my hands are in place to kind of catch the slider. if I dont do anything at all the slider still usuallys tops right at the top of the risers if not a bit higher... -yoshi _________________________________________ this space for rent.

my brother actually experienced the same flight characteristics... not a real good flare and very high (in toggle stroke) stall. he was jumping in high winds a cut away the main landed the reserve by some trees, which made some rotars that collapsed his canopy at about 15-20 feet. it all ended with a nice fracture to t-7 in his back, but he is back and jumping again..(this happened one year ago this weekend). he was loading the 120 dash m at 1.7. he now will not jump that rig until he gets a pdr 126. jsut thought I would throw that in.. -yoshi _________________________________________ this space for rent.

CUT THE RESERVE AWAY?!? -yoshi _________________________________________ this space for rent.

tube jumps are sooo much fun. I have an 18 footer homemade tye dyed tube that jsut looks amazing in the air... acutally if you do a search on "trevor" he made some posts titled OMGOD what a fun boogie or something to that extent and my tube is in one of those posts. -yoshi _________________________________________ this space for rent.

try taking a look in the classifieds -yoshi _________________________________________ this space for rent.

I have jumped a "splat wing" 120 a handfull of times.. I liked it pretty well.. openings seemed crisp and the turns were pretty fast from what I remember... nothing all to special other than looking up at the tail of the canopy ans seeing the "bat wing" shape..w as kinda cool... -yoshi _________________________________________ this space for rent.

yeah thats the only reason. I think puds look cleaner and its more of an all of nothing deal.. you will either have a canopy out or a total. no pilot chute in tow and from what I understan pretty hard to have a horseshoe on a pud as well.. -yoshi _________________________________________ this space for rent.

actually I believe there are some bas rigs with reserves. you should check out the base section to find more out..if you do a search on gear or check out blinc (sp?) you may find more info.. -yoshi _________________________________________ this space for rent.

personally I have a throw out with a freefly pud. the pud stays in place and I like the throw out because I occasionally do birdman jumps where a pud may be caught in a burble and not be able to be deployed. -yoshi _________________________________________ this space for rent.
