I don't see how this can become a legal matter. So I guess you're saying that if you don't believe in god you're a criminal? I guess I need to go to jail, go directly to jail and not collect 200 dollars. Is it just me or does anyone else think that statement is absurd? I agree, except the student probably didn't know but should have known about the winds and jumping. Not everything covered in the first jump course is remembered. and Leah, I don't think the driving school is a good comparison. If you are a driving school instructor and its the first or second time for the student to be behind the wheel of the car, and the student gets in an accident, IMO, the instructor is partially at fault because driving school cars (at least the ones I have seen) give the instructor the ability to take control. Now under canopy, an instructor can't be there. We can only give radio instructions and hope they respond and hope they paid attention in class. Students do the craziest things sometimes, and sometimes those students don't get what they were expecting and over-react. Yep, my first AFF Level 1, had to land with the plane because the clouds closed up when we got to altitude. The only other time was a few months ago when Bush was at the Desoto Center in Mississippi (over 40 miles away) and some dumb lady drove her car (with kids inside) into the side of the building. We were at 9,000 feet and Center (or the SS) told the pilot no jumping right now. Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle. -
Was there a waiver for the winds at Archway for the day in question? I don't know of any dropzone that gets a wind waiver for their students. It may happen, I've just never seen it done. I didn't read much of that thread on scary canopy ride. I'm curious what the student JM's told them after the student questioned the canopy. I'm assuming the student DID talk to their instructors about it. Not sure what you are trying to get out your post. Some of the people you are questioning are highly experienced and do know better. That's the party line, wonder how the non USPA DZ's handle that problem. R.I.P. Like it was stated above, some non GM DZ's require USPA membership. The GM program does not have insurance. Well, not really. The "no personal attacks" rule will still apply. I don't want to give anyone the chance to say something really mean about someone and then say, "but, I kid, I kiiiiddddd." Can a native speaker please explain the difference between: "y'all" and "all y'all" I still can't figure that one out. My understanding having only been down here for 6 years is "y'all" is singular - one person; "all y'all" is plural - referring to more than one person. But that's just my Damn Yankee interpretation. I moved to Tennessee from Minnesota. Everytime I hear "fixin", I ask what's broken. Judy p.s. Actually, I traded my PC for Hank's 7-TU for a jump. Since they were connected to many of the same lines, I decided to use the toggles instead of honking down on the rear risers like with the PC. Bad plan. I rediscovered that burying the toggles on a cheapo is how you put it into a sink. Oops... To the original poster - yes, you can flare a PC. If you want, I have copies of the Paracommander Manual that gets into the process. Though landings on my RWPC don't really need much input, brisk application of rear risers before touchdown does make standups routine. We have guys in my office that feel the need to practice their golf swing (with a club). I get really irrated with them when they feel the need to swing it right behind me. I make them stop or move.
