I know, and its kinda scary because we also located between 2 little airports. We had a situation a few weekends ago where a prisoner escaped from the prison not that far from the dz. The Sheriff's dept showed up wanted to fly around in the airplane (cessna) to look for the guy. He was in prison for 1st degree murder and rape of an 81 year old woman. I hate to reopen old wounds but go back and look at one particular fatality at SDC and the tox report before you make statements like that. Roger went to jail for drug running. Here's all I can say about SDC. I went there Monday. What a beautiful place. Nicest DZ I have been to since Perris. SDC is a HUGE facility with 2 nice Otters sitting there. It was Monday and I think they put up 5 loads that were MOSTLY tandems and AFF. Usually only 5 slots or so left for fun jumpers. With a DZ that big with that much business why in the world would ANYONE need to take a risk like having a plane load of drugs land on YOUR OWN RUNWAY. Kinda stupid if you ask me. Especially given the reputation and rumor, deserved or not, surrounding SDC. There are hundreds maybe even THOUSANDS of grass and paved private strips to land on. Why pick there? Doesn't make sense. SDC is a GREAT place and I can't wait until I get the chance to go back. Leave your freakin politics at home. Brought to you by "My .02" Exactly! This could have happened at ANY dz anywhere. It just so happens the SDC is really close to a very large city where distribution would be very easy and quick. I made all but 2 jumps out of CASA. The last one was Raft jump, in which I knew I was going to land off, I just didn't expect to be in the next town - I was hoping for the golf course. The people that FINALLY stopped to pick up me and Brent said "I guess we could take you to Rantoul." The one good thing about landing that far away was I got to see where the Wal-Mart and Pizza Hut were on the way back.
