I love to cook for people, but what I would make for a vegan friend would be much different from what I would make for a carnivore... so it's hard to pick just one dish. Below is a recipe that I make that is a favorite at more than one DZ. The only complaint I've gotten is from the vegans. ...layers of brownies, caramel, melted chocolate chips, trail mix, and more caramel... Trail Mix Brownies 1 package Brownie Mix Eggs, Vegetable Oil, per brownie mix 3 cups Trail Mix 50 light-colored Caramels 1/3 cup Evaporated Milk 6 oz. Chocolate Chips Prepare the brownie mixture, following directions on the box. Place one cup of trail mix in a plastic bag and gently break the large nuts. Stir into the brownie mixture. Pour into a Bakers Joy sprayed 9 x 13 inch pan. Bake according to instructions on the box. In a heavy medium-size saucepan, combine caramels and evaporated milk. Warm over low heat, stirring occasionally, until melted. Remove brownies from the oven and pour half of the melted caramel on top, spreading evenly. Sprinkle the chocolate chips over the caramel and let melt slightly. Add the remaining trail mix and press lightly. Drizzle on the remaining melted caramel sauce to hold the trial mix on the brownies. When cool, cut the brownies into squares, cover and transport in the pan to prevent drying. Makes 24 brownies. My kids are in soooo much trouble...tonight I am going to break the news (tears and all, PLUS a for sale sign!) that we HAVE to move and be out by Monday...I have the boxes and everything. I could continue to remain in ignorance to appear more knowledgable, or I could just ask. I've got a feeling that it isn't one of those things that I'll regret finding out. I found the experience of being on the Board to be so unpleasant that one of the requirements of the house I moved into was that it be in a neighborhood without a HOA. I hope you don't have a HOA where you are moving to. It's wonderful living without one.

Our homeowner's association asking for volunteers to clean the storm drains in our neighborhood on Saturday morning. ARE YOU KIDDING ME! What are we paying for? What do you all think we should include in our letter to this wonderful organization? Apparently, you aren't paying for the storm drains to be cleaned out. If it isn't in the budget, the Board has to figure out a way to get it done. They weren't demanding that you do it. They asked for volunteers to save everyone in the association some money. I was on the Board of my condo association for years. Believe me, it is a thankless job but a very necessary one. We were required to play by the rules even when we didn't want to because someone complained about someone else breaking them. I would hope that you would put in your letter a 'thank you' for serving your community without pay. Believe me, that is something that they never hear. Why don't you make it up at night before getting into it then? I didn't used to make my bed unless guests were coming over... not that they ever went into my bedroom. It was just part of the 'nesting' routine that I went through preparing for company. I had an addition put on my house a few years back. Since the construction guys were coming over every day, I started to make it every day. That was years ago, and I'm still making it every day. I was just wondering why I'm still doing it? It is true everyone knows each other there! Especially the older ones. My great uncle-who is probably near 80- walks right up to the chunky policeman and says "I am thinking of joining the force it looks like they feed well." Since everyone knew my great uncle and knew what a card he was, the cop just laughed it off. . My Mom probably went to school with him. Every time I would go shopping with her she would speak to someone then tell me later, "I went to school with him."

My mother lives in a small town in North Carolina. Recently she had a stroke and spent two days paralyzed on the floor before the police were called to break into her house to rescue her. Over the past couple of weeks I've learned that at least five people called to check on her during that time. Her niece, who only spends one day a week in that town, came to visit on the second day and found her. [She's my hero!] Mom is now in a nursing home in the town. Everyone who works in the nursing home already knows her and is glad to have her there. She gets visits from people in the church, friends, neighbors and people that she does business with. I started jumping at Orange. I was given the nickname Emu by "Shakey" Jake because I kind of looked like Ostrich.

Ostrich On his first jump his instructors told him that if felt nervous, he could deploy early. He felt nervous right out of the door and ended up on an Ostrich farm nine miles away. He ultimately became my favorite AFF instructor. He has great empathy for those who are not 'naturals' in the sport. He was my biggest cheerleader. I asked his Mom if I could adopt the boy. She doesn't want to give him up. If he ever needs a kidney, he had better come to me first. I love you Ostrich.
