  6. Not true in the least. I have far more problems on a daily basis with other vendors products. Start factoring in the shear volume of usage and it's not nearly as bad as people make it out to be. MS aren't angels or flawless, that's for sure, but silly sweeping statements by zealots are often incorrect. edit: I will say that opensource products TYPICALLY get their fixes to market faster but make no mistake there are plenty of fixes in both arenas. 8. Something else to note. We used a weight table of sorts for this meet to determine loadings, etc and who was allowed to wear what and how much weight. I think it's obvious from the scores that the new system is quite effective in leveling the playing field. I know it's only 1 meet and I don't know how close the table was to what will be made official this year, but I thought it worked out well. I like the idea that it's down to skill, not how much a pilot is willing to weight up. 10. Hey Chris, Thanks for organizing the comp. The weather was beautiful and everything ran smoothly. Congrats to everyone, especially those who broke their 'competition cherry', it was great flying with you all. As always, I was impressed with the overall level of flying, looks like there's going to be some tough competition again this year and that's great news
  11. John Judy - clocked with a radar gun at 94mph horizontal speed in Colorado. Jay Mo - 678 feet (exact measurement is here somewhere) Colorado. That's all the springs to mind for now. 12. I'm all for longer recovery arc BUT by your logic the Velocity (one of the longest divers out there) would be the best choice. Obviously this is not the case. Personally I do not consider the Sabre2 to have a short arc, the Stiletto yes but not the Sabre2. Sure it's shorter than a Katana or XF2 but those are shorter than the Xbraces. When talking about long recovery arcs we should preface that by REASONABLE amount of recovery arc. Which choice is appropriate is a question best answered by the level of pilot flying the wing and the loading thereof. The XF2 is more suitable for advanced pilots IMO, not 'the (shall I say intermediate) canopy pilot with swooping aspirations'. To the original poster. I would consider the performance category of the canopy before I would consider whether or not it's elliptical. As mentioned prior there is simply so much more than that. IMO Intermediate canopies (loaded light to moderate): Sabre2 Pilot Saphire2 (? never jumped one) Lotus (? never jumped one) Advanced/High Canopies (any loading) Sabre2 (loaded heavily) Samurai Vengence Katana XF2 Mamba Stiletto (just for JT - but I hate these things!!) Ultra Canopies Any X-brace currently out there. I would recommend that people spend as much time as they can on the first table. It'll only help them in the long run if they pay attention and practice appropriately. 13. After CO I seriously thought about it. I decided I'd rather train near sea level. I felt I'd become a 'lazy swooper' if I always swooped up there. It's relatively easy to go far and fast even with a mediocre swoop. I'd rather spend my time in an environment that's less forgiving and shows my mistakes more. I think being an environment where it's harder to swoop further (and note I mean purely distance as 'air time' seems to be the same at sea level and high altitudes) will help me focus on technique. Of course there was also that fact that I found it relatively easy to adjust to the altitude (going up) but think it'd be much harder for someone to come down to sea level - they psych factor is huge. Finally most competions aren't held at that altitude (although those that are, are fun as hell). So it seems like less time in the competition altitude, or close to it, wouldn't be beneficial. Of course these are just my opinions and I loved being at Mile Hi so they are purely based on my training ideas. 14. Not yet, but you do have a voice who has actually LIVED through apartheid and had friends on both 'sides'. I've seen first hand racism like most modern day US victim kids have never even dreamt of. Hanging on to the past is a sure way to repeat it. Nor we shouldn't ever forget it and pretend like it never happened but moving on is neccesary to heal. Cases like this make me wonder if we're moving at all. Seeing as this concerns a 'white' teacher using a 'black' word I fail to see how having no black voices makes one iota of difference. We need to decide, together, if it's acceptable or not. While it pains me to agree with Jeffery () I think his example of a nazi flag was appropriate and accurate. 15. Don't get me wrong, I have no issue with anyone taking offense at the usage of a word. Plenty of things offend me, the difference is HOW I let it effect me. I can either a) Ignore it or b) Whine about it. But if I chose B I better not be a hypocrite. This kid, calling for the guys job, is pathetic. The guy was disciplined (IMO a slap on the wrist would have been sufficient - Hey dude, don't say that). Instead he got suspended and the little 'victim' still wasn't happy. 16. If we want to be treated equally, then no 'they' don't - we (society) do. Of course, unless we want to keep seperation, in which case we're all doing a fine job of ensuring that. 17. Oh please. That's really a stretch as almost everyone in the WORLD would have no idea what the hell we were talking about. As for the original statement, I don't get bent out of shape everytime I hear some stand up comedian say 'Kill whitey'. I mean, really, if we want to put these things behind us we all need to move on at some point. If that means changing the words intended meaning (see just about any rap song) then so be it - but don't bitch when others start to use it too. For the record, I really wish people just wouldn't say it altogether, and even if it became publicly acceptable to spout it out at a moment notice I still, personally, don't feel comfortable saying it. That said I still stand by my original thought process in that if you don't want someone to call you something, don't allow your culture to embrace the word. If we all ran around calling each other 'milky' and a black person decided to call us as such then we'd be pretty hypocritic in taking offense. 18. Looks like they are Realmedia encoded. Realmedia sucks a lot. Screw them and their spyware
  19. Nonsense. If I get called a derogatory name (based on whatever physical attribute) for decades with a negative connotation, only to turn around and start using it on people that share that attribute later on, I've either changed the meaning of the word or I'm full of shit. In this context, if a black person can call another 'nigga' but a white person can't without being branded racist for no other reason than they are white and used the term then it's just as racist as the damn word was to begin with. It's pretty damn simple IMO, either the word is acceptable or it's not. We (society) cannot have it both ways.
