  1. but you do have to concede that the director often has a "style" that gets imprinted on the movie (although perhaps that says as much about Lee as it does about his choice of top cinematographers, too). DEFINITELY.......just not Lee, Ang. By this I mean that he is no Bertolucci, Scorsese, Fincher, Wong Kar-wai, Tsai...........to name but a few. IN OTHER WORDS, I challenge you to look at a Lee movie, like say, Scorsese, and be able to know that he directed it. I just don't see it.
  2. hot summer day and what looked like lemonade was actually chicken stock. I mean, I chugged the shit! good times.......good times, I tell you.
  3. And of course, since it's an Ang Lee movie, it's fucking *beautiful*. Cinematography was stellar. Quote I think you meant to compliment Rodrigo Prieto, the DP. He also shot Amores Perros, Frida, 8 mile, 21 grams, and a TON of other stuff. Sorry, pet peeve.
  4. Peppermint schnapps is quite tasty in hot chocolate as well.
  5. I guess they're just assuming that it's going to have a limited audience, which makes me sad, because it sounds like such a great story. There was a great review in The New Yorker that really makes me want to go. A lot of good films open slowly like this....it works in the long run, especially with the buzz/awards and all that jazz.
  6. Nothing now......my gift came early this year.

  10. I am always astonished when people are critical of gifts......and the astonishment almost always gets replaced by the urge to "exterminate with extreme prejudice".

    Suicide

My best friend in grad school committed suicide. I was closer to him than anybody and I never saw it coming. Sure, he could get stressed or down, but who didn't, it was THAT kind of place. That year there were 2 suicides and I guy who walked away from everything; school, wife, family, the whole enchilada. IN the end it's hard to know another's pain and or their capacity for dealing with it. I always felt like people never dealt with that, they just appropriated it as a badge of honor or martyrdom or something. It was a sad final year.
