  8. lol, quit being a tool. The only thing those boys out there care about is not getting beat by the girl. Copping a feel is the last thing on their minds. I have to agree with WC. Unless one has wrestled, it's hard to understand.

    24

We had a group watching tonight and the room was speechless after that last image. Finally, the doodoo has really hit the fan. Tonight it was mini-crescendo after crescendo, then cutting to MORE shit, one fucked up crisis after another. 24 is back, better than ever.
  13. you said a mouth full. His show is unlistenable, even for a minute. And what really irks me is that he thinks he is some subversive braniac. mama mia!
  14. QuoteOscar winners: Homosexuals, Trans-sexuals, Pimps, and America-haters. I think they've grown a bit out of touch with mainstream America... Quote Gee John, are you trying to say that's a bad thing? Let's have no media and or any checks and balances of any kind. I have an idea, lets just give everybody a gun and tell them to "handle it". Whattaya think? America haters? How do you get that? I take it you love everything about america?
  15. The directors commentary on the DVD is pretty informative also. will definitely check it out since I only saw it at the theatre. address is coming via pm.
  16. Paul Haggis ain't no Cronenberg. Speaking of, this poster thought that Cronenberg's A History Of Violence was the best film of the year by FAR.
  17. But I think I'm still pissed 8mm never won a damn thing. I felt like for everything it did right (turning its eye on the industry, money, class, power, etc) there were two things it did wrong. While Joaquim Phoenix was great I really did feel that Cage was miscast and that it went on to exploit the exploited. In the end though, I was impressed by what it set out to do. Those underground tape exchange scenes are still embedded in my brain. Too much hero stuff and not enough Odyssey, ya know? Check out Paul Schrader's Hardcore 1979, which was obviously a major inspiration for 8MM. This film was a homage to Ford's The Searchers. Thematically, it still holds up and that ending....fugheddabouttit!
  18. Some of the best films I have seen are considered horror. But if you make a horror film, you might as well be making porn, in the eyes of the Academy. Agree on both counts. The trouble is that horror in the US is in such a sad state. Now Japan knows how to make a good horror film. (and not just Ringu. They have that whole urban horror thing going on which always leaves sitting there, speechless after watching. tight, real tight... btw, I really did think that Kyua (Cure) 1997 directed by Kyoshi Kurosawa (no relation) deserved the foreign film oscar that year.
  19. "Hey, how are ya? Not you, YOU." Big Ern, from Kingpin
  20. Chris, I am curious, which picture(s) do you think deserved those awards? Granted, the Oscars are ALLEGEDLEY about cinematic excellence, not neccessarily what films people really liked, etc. For instance, I wouldn't put Crash (and no I am NOT exaggerating) in my top 50. SERIOUSLY.
  21. I loved that show. It occurred to me that it was a whole lot like the X-Files, but too early for it's time. even though I was pretty young watching it, I couldn't stop, despite the fact that I didn't always "get it". I remeber it being pretty dark stuff and just a wee bit cynical.
