  1. Thats funny. I have my fave porn tape labeled as Steel Magnolias cause i knew nobody would ever put it in the VCR and find out i have porn. now THAT is funny. Thanks, I needed that.
  2. I think there is value, at least here, in making a distinction between sex and gender. Yeah, society and our "culture" shapes us, but I think it is much more interesting, given that we as skydivers exist in a fringe or sub-culture, how our ideas are shaped (or not) by society.
  3. Luhrmann or Feffirelli? btw, Boondock Saints is the sleeper of all sleepers. Got it on a goof and was really pleasantly surprised. Willem Dafoe has never been better. "be careful, I want a bagel with my coffee". hehehehe
  4. Can you BAD director?

  8. ditto that. I know that if I started I wouldn't be able to stop about the special one in my life. Beautiful on the inside and out, thoughtful, smart, and loving. What more could one ask for. Oh, and if that's not enough, she jumps. Yeah, I'll keep her as long as she will have me.
  9. > fuckin greeks Sorry, Michelangelo was Italian, not Greek... that's not what his mother said. I KNEW as soon as I typed that I was *)%!&#
  10. but generally I just like plain 'ol Diet Coke. *nods* oh yeah, and why does diet coke go so perfectly with middle eastern food?! this is one of life's great mysteries, I'm telling you!

    Naps

Katee, easily my favorite part of being in greece (besides the food) is being able to nap without anybody looking at you funny. After a long day of swimming and walking it is a requirement, espcially since everybody, young and old, goes out at night, even if it just for a stroll.

    Kimchi

I don't know exactly what kind of pepper is used but I know it is not Cayenne. Also, you have to add a fermented shrimp or fish paste. Quote LO, I am glad you brought this up because my best friend in grad school said that the fermented shrimp is what gives kimchees its "depth" of flavor. I was lucky in that the Chicago Food Corp. was not far from where I lived and they had a "panchan" bar 3 times the size of any salad bar I have ever seen. Every kind of kimchee and panchan you can think of. Biggest kimchee surprise? Tuna and kimchee fried rice. When my friend, Yun-jong, looked through my cabs and took out everything I was sorta nervous. After we ate I was extremely grateful. Wow, a kimchee thread on dz.com, kewl!
  16. DEFINITELY had that 60s' ish Blow-up quality to it.
  17. Solzhenitsyn takes several readings, also. I don't think I've ever met anyone who read Solzhenitsyn's work outside of a required reading course. I picked We never Make Mistakes for a high-school independent-reading AP english class.
  18. I stand corrected... I still had a hard time getting into it.. But I did make a concerted effort... cause I made it about half way through... Don't forget that Conrad's "Heart Of Darkness" was the inspiration behind Coppola's Apocalypse Now Finally, most people never read a Conrad book unless they have to. I tried to get through HOD twice before I got it and was able to make it through.

  20. I read it cold - I never had heard of Stephenson until then. After about two pages I was sucked in. Didn't put it down for the next...9 hours (?) THAT is the kind of excess I can respect.
  21. I usually don't make it through very bad books... Take "The Secret Agent" by Joseph Conrad as well as several other old school british writers getting paid by the page... Quote Scott, I apologize in advance for not letting this slide, esp. since I like your posts. That said, Conrad was polish and he chose to write in english despite the fact that it was his third language. Granted, he is extremely rigorous in that he doesn't spell it out at all, but he is anything but long winded. Matter of fact, he is one of the tightest writers, ever. I will be the first to admit that he is not for everyone, and the novel "Swecret Agent" is nothing like what it implies..but it's great.
