  1. Frenchy/Chuck/Billvon, If I was unconcerned, I wouldn've have bothered posting this and I thank you for your concern. Still, I fail to see how me posting something on an internet message, probably describing it inadequately as well, suddenly makes my rig unflyable until a rigger asses my concern.
  2. Are they replaying it tonight as in Thurs, Aug 11 or did I miss the replay as well? Thanks.
  3. And I will! But I don't think my rig is a deathtrap and that I shouldn't jump it because of something that looks uncomfortable to me, who has low experience vs someone with more experience thinks it isn't as much of a concern, but something I've at least been paying attention to. I didn't buy this rig from shady people anyways. My former home DZO (they closed up recently) is one of the safest skydivers I've met, his wife is a rigger that has come highly recommended and she recently repacked my reserve. Granted, I didn't specifically ask them about the one cable when she repacked it, but I never paid attention to it before when I was renting it from them. But I appreciate then concern anyways.
  4. A packer is not a rigger . Point taken - but considering my low experience and that I've only jumped my own pack job around a dozen times now, random joe/jane packer gets more credibility than my own judgment. I think I'll ask my rigger to look next repack or the next one I meet - whatever comes first. Since nothing about the rig has really changed since I bought it from the DZ (where I had jumped it 3x prior), I don't think it will kill me in the meantime.
  5. Since we are in the opinion mode, what about the Astra?
  6. Bah! My Sabre 150 has about 1000 jumps and a Mfg date of '91 (first made in 89, Sabre2 in 2001), but it is my first rig and flies fine - still plenty of life.
  7. This applies to my rig somewhat as well (Talon - Mfg Date 95). The left cutaway cable extends a good two inches or so into the housing, but I've seen it come out before after landing, although it is still a good two inches or so through the white loop (or whatever the cloth loop that goes through the first of the 3 rings is called). The packers keep saying it is fine, although a little short. Still makes me nervous at times.
  8. Forget...even though it has only been a month. I think both an internet search and maybe seeing it in Parachutist.
  9. Intersting...I'll have to check that out sometime. I've heard Dawn do a couple of cameos on a Chanticleer Christmas album.
  10. I know this is tragic, but LOL! I'm sorry, but
  11. I was in awe of how fast you packed my main up that one time - as if you'd been packing all your life. You see, you actually decided "work" at packing and learn, while I've been very lazy about it. It seems that my knowledge seems to have been poorly retained as well. Plus, my back w/ scoliosis sucks, so draping it over my shoulder sucks as well as holding it out while I fold the nose. I don't think my small hands help a whole lot either. The next time I see you (Byron?) I need you to show me again what you did to the nose, as the was one my nice snively openings. I like using the hooks like what Cloverdale and Lompoc have. I realize it's getting spoiled, but my back thanks me for it. Yeah, as if!!!! I don't WANT to do sucky work! The corrolary to I SUCK AT PACKING is that PACKING SUCKS!!! Quote And as has been said many times, the canopy will open in spite of how you pack it, not because of it. Smile during freefall, makes for a better picture.Quote Something I need to learn to do - actually look like I'm having fun!!
  12. 1. Well, I RENTED a Nitron around jump 40, but my WL was still
  13. Cloverdale (Skydive SF) has some - still in Sonoma County technically. Skydive Santa Barbara in Lompoc also has hooks (my parents live in Goleta, so I've jumped there a few times too).
  14. Is tortiseshell another name for "mottled tabby"?
  15. Dude, those are SOOOO not 2005. Those are from Dilbert and a good 5 years old.
  16. Yeah, I guess that is a little trippy...thanks! Yeah, I just feel so special now.
  17. ...for Now... Well, she told me to let her know when I'll be in the area again to jump so she could hopefully stop by. Good enough for me!
  18. Well, you started it, so everything is fair game. We have plenty of reason to be concerned - just read the incident reports. Anyway, to answer your question at face value, something where your WL is no more than about 1.1.
  19. It's OK- I think I do too. But I've jumped my own around 10 times or so now and they've been fine so far. Yup, getting it into the D-bag is the hardest part. I think I've only recently figured out the lines part - and that is one of the hardest part for me (especially rolling the nose for my old Sabre) since I have scoliosis. My back doesn't like haveing to hold the canopy. God bless those places with hooks! SOOOO much easier to pack with hooks.
  20. ...my A License!!!!!! Who0hoo! After doing my first tandem on 7/21/02 (Thanks, Diablopilot AKA JP), my first AFF on 9/29/02, a 9 month layoff from 03-04, I'm finally licensed!!!! I am A-47688 Hear me....oh nevermind. Blue Skies everyone!
  21. OK now.....back on topic My Aunt (well, one of many) came out to the DZ last Saturday and saw me jump. First actual relative to see me jump. There was dinner after the sunset load and the other DZ folk were very nice to her. She enjoyed the visit and I was happy how welcoming they were. I think that was the first time she saw ANYONE jump (or should I say land). Anyway, I'm sure it changed her perspective.
  22. So what was the point? That you lost altitude awareness? How was it illegal? That you didn't have your 'A'? If so, then I'm guilty of that too. -jumped a few times i guess, after a heavy night, when i was probably still over the limit to drive. . The day I forgot to turn on my Cypres, then next jump the effects of 5 pints of strong beer (6-7.5% range) caught up to me - got nausea in the plane. That sucked, but went away during freefall but came back under canopy.
