  1. Sparky, I think the majority of us agree with the HP = High Performance while you define HP = death trap. Tonto, I didn't know 1.8 was a "passive" (or just not that aggressive) at ANY AMSL.
  2. So do you roll it or not? I thought the unevenness would only happen if you rolled the nose asymmetrically, which I haven't heard of anyone doing it on purpose. I was taught to roll the cells in ward (the 4 outer on each side), leaving the center cell flaked out. All my openings have been fine so far it's just the strain on my back from having it over my shoulder and holding the canopy out with a hand while rolling it. I was at a DZ on Saturday (actually, the closest DZ to me) which has hooks (whoohoo!), but I know I can't be spoiled with them all the time.
  3. You guys forgot an Emeril. (Why did bother with this thread and why do I hang out with people who even know what this crap means?)
  4. Speaking of places to stay, lookie who I got at my house Awwwww, how cuuute! That swoop god is ok in my book, as he did my first ever tandem.
  5. Thanks for the compliment, but yes, according to the scale I really do weigh 170 out the door. Unless it's "that time of the month," in which case I weigh about 175 out the door. I have a hard time believing it unless I saw it. You look petite. I wonder how much Peter Galli weighs - he sure as hell ain't (170 OTD). I think one of my nuts was trapped between a leg strap that Monday and there was no room in that suit to adjust. That's a tight suit!
  6. Is it online? Also, how do you do this while holding it (I'm talking mechanically speaking). I was at a small Cessna DZ yesterday and they had hooks to hang your canopy by the lines (whohoo!), but not many DZs do.
  7. As tempting as it was to play hookie on Friday, I only have so much vacation and disposable income. You sure you missed him? He was the dirty hippie wit dem long dreads. I stopped by his place of biz on Saturday afternoon, but he had the nerve to actually take the day off. A good friend of mine (wuffo) would call any male with hair longer than around 3 inches a "hippie", so I thought I'd just continue for him since he moved away. Ehren is an excellent candidate.
  8. You associate with such people? Yuk... I didn't say they were all that exciting... they're all the time spouting off random statistics, something about distribution methods, net premium-something, and filings. They are useful to have around sometimes though. And they're good in bed. I think those are called....actuaries. They have usually have math backgrounds. I did actuarial work at one point and so did another skydiver, who used to jump at Byron and I heard is getting married soon.
  9. An actuary told me that an Underwriting VP once said that the best form of Earthquake insurance is a gas can on your water heater.
  10. bytchy, You SO do not weigh 170 out the door.
  11. I really need to get out there and take advantage one of these days. Maybe Thanksgiving weekend again like last year and that the weather will be nice then.
  12. I think that is different that what I did, or at least from the way you are holding it in the picture. From the way you are holding it in the picture, it looks like the left side was connected to the large ring on the container backwards. My was connected right to the container, but backwards to the lines, causing the front and rear to cross each other on opening. It was hard for me tell tell on your phot at first, since it looks like your toggles are red and dive loops on the front riser are black, while on my risers the brake toggles are yellow and the dive loops red. Justinb, No, I didn't ASK anyone to check MY bad job of changing the risers. My first jump after changing them (I had previously jumped this rig at the DZ as a rental before buying) was at another DZ at a boogie. It's my rig, and thus my responsibility. I chalk it up to anxiousness to jump at the time and my lower confidence in my packing ability (I didn't take the main out of the bag while changing the risers to see if it was correct). If it were now, I wouldn't be so lazy to take the main out of the d-bag to test it if I was unsure.
  13. I bought my rig from the DZO - one of his rentals. It has metal links w/ bumbers and a velcro "collapsible" slider (I put quotes since the one piece of velcro doesn't collapse it as well as two drawstrings). Since I could just barely reach the slider, I asked for shorter risers. He gave me another pair that were like a whole inch shorter. He said that he could replace them if I couldn't figure out how to replace them and also what would happen if I switched them. Well, I take the rig home, open the container and lay it out. I disconnect the risers rather carefully and replace them. On the left side, even though I though I was careful, I THOUGHT that I may have switched the sides (A&Bs to C&Ds), and so I switched them. I was all worried about it until my next jump. On that jump, my opening is fine, I do my canopy control checks and glance to the left and see the the left rear and front have criss-crossed. The canopy flew fine, behaving just like the DZO said it would and I got some pliers after I landed and had a packer fix it (since it would be more daunting for me to do it at the time). Now, if I had installed the riser to the container backwards, I'm told that the canopy would've flown backward!
  14. Actually, it is duct tape.
  15. 4 man tents are Just big enough for one person (or two people who are very comfortable with one another). Don't be so discriminating. Non-hotties (not that we have anything but hotties in Byron) need luvin (or places to sleep) too. Editted to add: You might want to talk to Ball Sack. He's probably looking for a cuddle buddy. Ummm...I don't know about that. That sounds frightening. I don't play on that side of the fence. But, yes, the non-hotties of the other sex are an option too.
  16. Yup! I second that. Even if you are several years older than me, you don't need to be bashful about being "older" than the younger chickie in the first photo.

    Solos

I'm more this way. Doing most of my jumps at a Cessna DZ where often I would be the only upjumper on a tandem, soloing finally started to get boring. I see dave's point too if you are at a big DZ and always jump with others.
  18. They should be reprimanded and take the 'i' out of thier name. No self respecting Californian says 'Cali'. They say NorCal or SoCal (or I've heard that San Diegoans sometimes say LoCal to distinguish from LA/OC area).
  19. girlfalldown, Do you still have an extra tent? How big? I just bought one at Walmart today, but it is a 4-man tent and thus a little too big....unless some hottie chick needs a place to sleep.
  20. Yeah, those who don't need to get with it. Had stuff to do today...but I need to drop off some Skybands for someone at the closest DZ to me (small Cessna DZ), so.....might as well do a jump or two while I'm there.
  21. It't better to stick with one dropzone until you've gotten through training.
  22. Note to self: Drag Beth's ( l ) out of bed at 6:30 am Friday morning, Feed her coffee, and toss her in the plane Do it, man! Do it!
  23. I guess that's a decent idea. Anyone else?
  24. The best corrolary to all the suggestions.
